Yes a fair amount. The A64s general are faster clock-for-clock than an equivalent XP processor due to several enhancements, plus with a 144 which can likely be overclocked to 2.6ghz is equivalent to like a A64 4400+ (I'm just estimating here, since a 1MB L2 San Diego at 2.2ghz is rated for 3700+) which is quite an upgrade over your fastest 2800+. And even more so that HL2 is more CPU bound than other heavy GPU bound games like FEAR.

For a huge performance increase, pick up one of these 144s or similar A64 as well as a 7900GT.

edit: And damn what the hell. I paid $240 for my 146 and it isn't even completely stable at 2.8ghz with an enormous 1.55 V. My load temps are 50-51!! Damn everyone else gets so lucky and I never get good overclocking chips. I'm using the stock AMD heatpipe too, so I should be getting thermals in the area of the other stock heatpipe and XP-90 users... but I'm pretty hot. I have my side panel off too for cooling which with my tests is a little better since I don't have good fans and airflow.

Don't sweat it duragezic, I have an Opteron 144 that barely gets to 2.3GHz. There are other people who are barely getting 2.4-2.5GHz but most of those people don't go pounding their chests on message boards.

zap. Buy one of these new 144's. They are great stepping. Hopefully they are still shipping the CACJE 0602GPMW's. Thats what I got, it does 2.7ghz on stock volts. Stumblebum has his at 2.9ghz on 1.425volts. Sell your crappy one and get one of these new ones. They are only $135 total shipped. Im sure you can get at least $155-$175 for the crappy one on ebay.

I agree 1.55 volts is pretty high, but those are great temps for a stock HSF. Are you using the stock pad or a good thermal paste?
You should sell the 1.46 on the FS/FT forum and get a 144. You will lose a little cash, but
you could probably keep cycling through chips until you get a goof OC'er, if that is what
you REALLY want. Of course the cash you lose could just buy a faster chip anyway! lol

Why haven't I jumped on this yet? I don't have a proper motherboard, my XPm is still running fine, but this is so tempting. Bump for a great deal I guess, perhaps I'll buy one and just sit on it for a month or so...

Are there any motherboards I can overclock this chip on that still has an AGP slot for my Geforce 6800? What about the cheapie Asrock board?

The Asrock works for me but there are a number of other boards w/AGP slots (NV or VIA chipsets) that would probably o/c also. The Asrock and some K8T890 boards also have PCIe for more video upgrade flexibility.

Pretty amazing...but I need to see how far this DH-E3 Athlon64 can go. I've pushed it as far as 240x10 but I think something's wrong. Damn my Abit board and my PITA Corsair VS (it's gotten to 220 stable...but that's it).

I just got my two in today, one CAB2E and one CACJE. The latter chip seems to be used because the IHS looks lapped!!! Here's my thread with picture. I plan to test them out tonight or tomorrow, but I'm not happy with getting an obviously used core. That makes me wonder about my previous 144 from Monarch that was such a terrible overclocker (barely getting 2.2-2.3GHz).

Zap - I got the same, one CAB2E and one CACJE. Hmm...makes you wonder if they purposely did that. Seems like too much of a coincidence.

Haven't noticed any lapping on mine, but I do notice the heatspreader on one is more scratched around the edges than the other. Wonder if these are used chips that were bad overclockers?

for what it is worth, I once received a P4 in a sealed retail box, and the heat spreader was kinda scratched. I figured that it was scratched when it was tested. Nothing near the amount of scratches on Zap's CPUs tho.

Oooh, didn't realize this deal was back (that's what I get for not checking HD's). Time to pick one up I guess!

Received a CACJE 0602GPAW got it up to 2.8GHz at stock volts (CPU-z reports as 1.34v under load, 1.36 idle) Priming right now. CPU seems to have a pretty bad temp sensor.
Reports 28c idle then upon load instantly 45c, goes up to 50c after a half hour.

I once got a P4 in a sealed retail box that had bent pins.

The ones that look lapped are also really smooth. The IHS normally has a tiny bit of texture to them.

I've sent a message to Monarch using their web form, but haven't heard back.

You already know their response. Best scenario is that they will take back the bad chip. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Chip isn't bad - at least it passes Prime at default speeds, but at just over a 400MHz overclock I've had it reboot during Prime. Terrible... or are we just getting spoiled?

do you really want us to answer that? I mean seriously, I have a 170 running @ 2.7, and I wish it would go higher lol.

These things are so dirt cheap, it's awesome.

BTW, if anyone is looking for a similarly dirt cheap motherboard, I highly recommend the Biostar Tforce 6100 939 motherboard. Yes, it's mATX, but that didn't seem to stop me and my neighbor from building a sweet X2 3800+ system with a 6800GS. Overclocks very nicely

If you can afford the Ultra-D, though, it's a nice board. Another alternative is the ASrock, for those of you who need to keep your AGP cards. Just know that you'll need to use a modded bios to get higher than 274HTT.
