Hey everyone this is my first post, I did a search and saw this drive already posted but as 'dead' deal and the other was old. I did this today in store @ OD in South FL. Anyways to the details:

Office Depot in store or web

Manufacturer: Memorex
Mfg Part #: 32023287

@ OD for $69.99 --> Link
PM to Compusa for $59.99 --> Link
use OD $20 off $50 coupon
send MIR for $20

in summary:

$59.99(PM) - $20(coupon) - $20(MIR) = 19.99

Hope the links work also hope I'm not treading on anyones post!!!?

It's a Lite-On rebadge. Great burner, replaced my genuine Lite-On 24x with it.

Nice post. Might have some trouble getting them to PM though, because their price is cheaper after rebate.

i tried this in a retail store, and the price there is $99.99.

i told them it was $69.99 on their site and they said they dont pricematch their own site. so i turned around yelled out if anyone wanted my coupon, told them to keep the drive and left. thats ridiculous, they dont match their own site.

I agree. I caught the same problem at Staples once and they were more than happy to PM their own site.
However, why not just go back home and call their Customer Service number to either find out if A) The store personel were full of crap or B) Failing with A, just buy it online and get the whole deal. That is if the coupon would work online of course.

Is there a 20 off 50 we can use for an online order? How can we use the one in the link if we order online?

Hey guys installed and burned a few discs. It runs as smooth as silk, but how do you know if it is a lite-on? The bios identifies as a memorex and so does win2k. Here what windows system information is saying:

Name Memorex 40MAXX 1248AJ
PNP Device ID IDE\CDROMMEMOREX_40MAXX_1248AJ___________________ZWS1____\4&3153863&0&0.0.0

So is this a lite-on? Hope you guys can shed some light on identifing cdrw.

BTW I used nero for burning not the included software.

So why can't we order this online, shipping is free for $50 or more.

Is there a $20 off $50 coupon link?

Search and yee shall find thee coupon.

Sorry I should've been clearer. SKORPI0 mentioned ordering online but I haven't found any $20 off $50 coupon CODE for ONLINE orders, only $15 off and $10 off coupons.

I think YMMV depending on the store.
Hans007:
You don't want to PM to OD's website. You want to PM to CompUsa retail as the originator of this post said. I bought this drive when it was on sale at a retail OD for 69.99 a couple weeks ago. I PM'd to CompUsa. The CompUsa retail store was 59.99 but the guy just looked on CompUsa's website and it was also 59.99. So I got it for 59.99 and I gave them a 15 off 50 coupon for 44.99 plus tax out the door with a 20 rebate that printed up at the register. 24.99 AR plus tax. Not as good as this deal but I think you guys can make it work by just PMing to the retail CompUsa (59.99), then give them the 20 off 50 and use the rebate from the OD website. I am pretty sure a $20 rebate form won't print out at the register because that deal was a couple weeks ago, and had to be purchased by the 24th. This online form is for purchase between 8/25 and 8/31 and it's a Memorex rebate from Young America. Mine was an OD rebate from Walled Lake.

Actually the rebate printed at the register, as for PMing Compusa take a printout from there website and at the very bottom of the webpage it should say the following:

Pricing and availability information is up-to-date as of 8/27/2002 8:42:09 AM. Listed prices are national prices, and actual retail prices may vary by market. Products are sold on a first come, first serve basis.

I bolded the important part, show this if you have problems. I didn't have any problems and almost did this deal by phone I called and confirmed everything but before giving my CC I asked the CSR to check the inventory in my area and the drives were in stock @ 3 differnet location right near where I lived so it should be at most ODs.

Good deal! Too bad my OD is OOS for the drive. Anyone know if 800-GO-DEOPT will take the $20 off code? In the past they always tell me they can't take the online coupons because they need a 4-digit code. Well this coupon does have a 4-digit code...

this might help, although i think the site is really wrong about some of their burner info, posting it anyway
gone link this also. the memorex has a different firmware than the lite-on. i saw an open box 40maxx (od near me has two returned ones -- so i worried the mgr to give me a peek), and it's definitely a lite-on.
hope this helps. good luck!

All the rebadged LiteOn's I've received(4) included Nero sw. The Memorex has Roxio sw. I'd really take a long hard look at it before jumping on this drive...especially after the previous post seeing a couple in the return bin.

Here is an article Overclocking LiteOne

===============================================
Mentions:
Q: Could you name some brands that may be manufactured by Lite-On?
A: Sure, but note that they are not always Lite-On(check front and back nad firmware version to be sure), unless I say so.

Memorex, all drives from Twelve1040 MAXX and up is Lite-On
TDK, the only model I know of is the 40X that is sometimes Lite-On.
IOmega, Sells drives from various manufacturers, some of their 32X and 40X drives have been manufactured by Lite-On.
Pacific digital, sometimes you get Lite-On drives.
Traxdata, the newer 32X, 40X and 48X traxdata drives is Lite-On.
Sony, some sonys is Lite-On. All from 32X and up is Lite-On.
Verbatim, all verbatims is manufactured by Lite-On.
Cendyne is sometimes Lite-On.

I'm sure I forgot some.....notify me if there is other brands....

The OD in Northville, MI has 4 left now after I picked one up. They had no problem pricematching for $59.99 and no problem using the $20 off coupon. Total came to $42.39. They freakin tax the damn coupon. That makes no sense. The rebate for printed out also. Look's like the grand total will be $22.39 for a 40x burner. Not bad at all Where is proof that my drive is a Lite-ON?

P.S. the employees now know of this deal at this store so hurry up and get there before there gone

I got an open box one at my local OD and price matched it to CompUSA and they gave me $6 off for the open box so it came out to $36.79 before rebate for me. They did not charge me tax on the $20 coupon ($59.99-$6-$20)*1.0825 = $36.79. After $0.37 postage, my net cost would be $17.16. I feel like crap now because I bought this drive before for $39.99+tax without any rebates after I gave my local CompUSA hell for not having the TDK 40X burners in stock on the day they began the sale.

The drive I bought before at CompUSA was able to flash properly to the Lite-On 40X Write Speed (didn't try the 48x), so that would probably prove they are Lite-Ons. Of course they may have switched manufacturers since then, but I think it's unlikely. Anyone who bought one can try flashing his/hers, but always make sure you backup your original flash!
