I just picked up one of these and had absolutely no issues in store. They were nice and polite while they honored the PM and coupon.
For those interested, there were 3 of these left at the Cedar Hills OD in Beaverton, OR as of 2pm PDT.

i just got back from my local office depot, and the manager claimed that the computer wouldnt let him do a pricematch and the coupon at the same time. anyone else have this problem? i figure he is full of crap and plan on trying another OD later today.

If you guys flash to Lite-On, doesn't it prevent the Roxio Easy CD Creator included with the drive from working?

Did anyone use the included soft after flush?

Yup 1st OD I went to didn't let me PM AND use a coupon. They even called CUSA to verify stock. 2nd OD was laid back as hell. Took a look at the ad, and just pm'd it while inputting the coupon. Just keep trying and eventually you win

Thanks a million. Just got it to work today. They didn't accept my compusa online printout, but luckily i bought one from compusa and had the receipt to prove it. Now i just need to return my compusa drive.

How are you getting it to work in an ntfs environment? I'm on WinXP and both of my drives are ntfs formatted. DOS disks don't see them
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Never mind. I figured my way around it. I just created a 2GB FAT32 partition on my main drive and copied the necessary files to it to do the firmware update.

I REALLY like this drive! It's faster and quieter than my LiteOn 24102B. For a grand total of $23+change, I'm a happy camper.

Got one and upgraded the firmware from ZWS1 to ZWS4. Added Mt.Rainier support. Memorex firmware. Not a direct link.. choose Optical Storage Hardware, CD-RW FourtyMAXX 1248 (fifth from top), and choose your OS. Save zip file and extract exe file and run, no need to reboot.

Not really sure if I'm willing to change this Memorex 40Maxx 1248AJ to a Lite-On LTR-40125S or even to 48X. I opened the Memorex and compared to my 40X Lite-On and they had the same exact parts, except for a small label on the chip showing the firmware version & faceplate.

Forgot to bring my printout from CompUSA showing the $59.99 price. Looks like I'll have to pass by and make the pricematch after I purchased it. Used the $20 off $50 coupon w/out a problem, cute cashier enter the code. Hopefully I'll get back $10.

I downloaded the files at the links given and the files saved as Win-Ace self-extracting files. So I executed them and vs06.exe changed into vs06.bin. Then when I opened a dos prompt to execute litefirm.exe vs06.bin new.bin, I got an error 53 code. Can anyone help me? Thks.

If you are changing the extension from .exe to .bin you are NOT ready to flash the firmware!!! You need to get the .zip which has the .bin file look online to find the correct firmware, but DO NOT change the extension of a file and expect it to work.

I purchased one of these on the last OfficeMax deal. I flashed up to the Lite-On 48125W. The Roxio software would not recognize the drive, so I download the latest version of east CD creator as mentioned earlier in the thread. It recognized the drive, but maximum speed was listed at 24x. Did anyone get past that issue?

John, check your media. The drive auto-senses the speed of your CD-R media and then sets the max burn speed accordingly.

I got both my rebates. However I am still waiting for the CD player, as I heard it is nothing great anyway, but hey, it's free . Accroding to OfficeDepot they are delayed, will see what I get in the end.
