That sounds pretty cool. I was checking it out on olympus website. It doesn't come with the ink cart. $50 more as a matter of fact from OM. Ouch. Website also said that cart prints 50 pages. OUCH again. Sounds pretty cool though.

Have you seen a print out of this machine? Does it look like a real photo?

These don't take ink cartridges, they take a Dye Ribbon. Looks like a roll of plastic of different colors. These printers also require special paper that is usually bundled with the print catridge. Also the larger size prints aren't standard 8x10s they are EUROPEAN size prints that won't fit in alot American frames. Don't remember the size exactly. Prints will be good but not any better than the new inkjet on the market. And inkjets are generally cheaper to operate, believe it or not just do the math...... Photo Inkjets (not your lexmark walmart special $36.78 printer)

Any ideas on the laptop and all-in-one printer/scanner/copier?
I tried searching for the laptop model, but that one doesn't seem to be available anywhere. Can anyone post some details on this? It seems like an awesome deal.

At a cost of about $1.80 in consumables per print (this doesn't include the inital investment in the printer), I'd say pass on this printer unless you need to print at home and don't have access to a inexpensive digital developer like Costco, Wal-Mart, Sam's, etc.

Also, after skimming the posts at obese billfold, I noticed you need a color coded sheet to give to the OMAX folks when purchasing...

The 100-pack of slimline jewel cases for $4.99 is a good deal... microcenter had offer like this, but was $9.99... this is better

Thanks to jimmyhaha for posting, but this had to be the worst "bait and switch" setup ive seen in a long time.

Here is what they had in stock:

Brother laser printer: 4
2.4ghz phone: 1
48x CDRW 3
HP 300i DVD+RW 1

I got one of the brother laser printers, luckily.

Bought CDRW and some paper. The phones were all gone by like 10 oclock in San Jose Blossom Hill store.

One thing to be aware of-the Brother printers take a seperate drum unit which can be pretty expensive. My research indicates the drum life varies wildly, from less than one toner cartridge to lasting for several toners. The drum issue is about the only bad thing I have heard about the Brothers.

Went there and got a few of the things. Picked up the 5 pack of Maxbrite inkjet paper, the photo paper, 48x cdrw, the cd cases, and the HP printer.

The 48x is Seamless Link which if I recall is Acer(BenQ). Nothing special but for $20 who cares. The printer is probably a piece of junk but makes a good spare if someone dies.

My store had the circulars on all the checkout counters, asnd as of 4pm local time had 4 CASES of phones, 8 dvd drives, and a few dozen cd-rw's, plus lotsa other stuff.
the manager had no problem selling me 5 of the cd-rw drives and a phone, all in all he seemed rather glad to be rid of them, all Khypermedia brand w/ nero software.

They didnt seem to mind that my circular was on regular white paper, and the printout of the pdf was better than the copies they had at the store.
They couldn't scan the barcodes on thier copies, so the cashier kept the one i handed him to scan for the rest of the night.

so YMMV, i guess.

Who cares how expensive the drum is when the whole printer is disposable. Why buy a drum when you can get a whole new printer for less. I have been through about five of these HL-1440 printers the last couple years and have never paid over $150 for a brand new HL-1440 which also includes a new drum & toner. I picked up another HL-1440 at Omax today for $69.99 +tax and you're complaining about the cost of the drum????
