Okay, I went back to my local OM today to try and get a different drive. The place was packed, all gone from shelves, but manager was pulling them out of storage for people who asked. I saw boxes with 2 different model numbers 4816a and SW-248. As I posted earlier, the 4816a was an Asus 48x16x48 with 2 MB buffer. The SW-248 is the Samsung 48x24x48 with 8 MB buffer. I will be keeping the Sammy and returning the Asus.

Now, I need coupon advice. I printed the $25 off $100 webpage, but the manager would NOT take it. He pointed out that it says website only. Was he just being a jerk? Is there a different printable coupon I should have brought?

Good luck guys!

Woz - Most OM B&M should accept competitor's coupons, so if you received a coupon in the mail from Staples or OD I would give that a try.

I have used OM.com coupons in the store before. The secret is to CALL them first, explain that you want to order this CD-RW online and use a $25 off $100 OM.com coupon you have. Then tell them the drive is no longer available online but they have some in the store, since you are unable to order the CD-RW online can you use the coupon in the store? They have the power to say yes. This is how I used a $50 off $250 OM.com coupon at OM B&M to buy my Canon A40.

Used OD's 15/50 coupon at B&M, get a sw-248 with 8M. Get paid for this. Nice...

Holy Moly

These are just too many rebates to deal with on these deals.

I preferred paying $9.xx for the staples.com deal on the buslink Cd burner 52X24X52 - dealing with one mail in rebate

Just go to staples search for the buslink cd burner - its $19.94 after one $50 MIR. Look for a $10 off $50 coupon to drop the price to $9.xx after MIR

Rather than changing the price to $59, he made it $39. So I got an extra $20 off anyway! I'm still mad about that extra $5, but I'll let it go

My manager did the same thing. The reason he changed the price to 39 though was becuase there was only a $30 cendyne rebate. It will be $9.99 after rebates

The one I got it a 4816P :-/

Comes with Nero 5.5

And the rebate is $20, not $30 or $40. At the very least it's a cheap way to get Nero. =)

It looks like you got lucky, Pacific Digital drives have always been LiteOn MFG drive. Look for the word "Smartburn" on the box.

I only see the ONE $8 rebate on the OfficeMax rebate form. Is Hi-Val aka I/OMagic? Also, when you submit rebate to for the 3 OfficeMax rebates, do you have to submit them separately? Thanks!

I went to back to my local OM late this afternoon to have all the above items refunded and repurchased (to ensure that my purchase date qualifies for all the MIRs). While at the Customer Service Desk, another customer inquired if there were any CD-RW "sale" drives left. When told no, he inquired if there were any substitutes. The reply was "we only have a 52x Pacific Digital burner left as a substitute." As soon as I heard that, I jumped on that opportunity! OM substituted the Pacific Digital Mach52 (52x24x52x) drive for $29.99 (OM manually adjusted price) - $20MIR = $9.99. I'm 99% sure this is a rebadged Lite-On. Only problem at the moment is I don't have the rebate form for the drive (they forgot to give me a copy at the store), and it's not listed in the Feb OfficeMax Rebate Booklet. I'll go back later this week to pickup the rebate form. (I can't find it on-line yet either -- at least not at RebatesHQ.com nor wheresmyrebate.com, etc.)

Note: The Pacific Digital Mach52 IS NOT YET LISTED on OfficeMax.com; however, here are the relevant OM details:
[*]OM Item #: 20322697
[*]UPC Code: 644405301463

Good luck to all who try and purchase this substitute. YMMV!

Can confirm that My Cendyne box says 48x12x48 on the outside and had the number "SW248".
However, on the inside it is a Samsung 48x24x48 8MB buffer with Nero Express and all cables.

Can I vote twice for Mystic for Pres? (Once for the DVD 4x deal & once for this; the Best Buy at Officemax). Also, got a lifetime (200) supply of 48x CDs.

Also need to vote for conwaymac for VP as a result of confirming the SW248 is the 8MB Samsung.

I give this thread six thumbs up (thank you Homer Simpson)!

Hey RideFree, I got the same drive, with Nero Express. I had the Full Nero installed already, that came with my TDK that crapped out. When I installed the Cendyne (Samsung), Nero gave me a window stating "This Nero is for TDK drives only". Anyone know a way around this? What does the Full Nero do that Nero Express wont do?

mnkyboy311,
Yes, I do know. I bought one of the full Neros and I have never used express as my legal works with everything.

Good grief, I was used to paying Adaptec (& the first Roxio ver.) about $100 clams for the stupid AnyThingButEZ nonCreator, so I thought that Nero should be given the chance. Nero is #1! Nero for President!

So does does anyone know what is the quality of this unit? I mean i guess i did got the better one ...its 24RW, but i don't know if i should keep an Acer unit. i can't find the 4824p review, but i found the 40x review, seems to sucks at writing, avg writing speed is only 27kbps where others is writing at 31kbps, but has really good access speed, and RW access time. Can anyone give me some suggestions? Thanks

I also got a 52x Pacific Digital sub today. Made by Top-G, which is an OEM of BTC (BTC has a OEM factory at china, under the name Top glory)
check btcusa.com, they have a v1002.exe download, not sure if i have the latest Fireware.
Its not a good drive, but it works as i burn some disks with 32X (low quality disk, do not want to push it). May try it with a 48X quality disk later. (not likely because this is a computer for a friend...)

I tried to do the first combo deal on Office Max's website. When I tried to goto the Hi-Val 100-Pack CD-R product page, it came up with this error:

Sorry, This product is currently unavailable.

Is this a dead deal for those who wish to do it online?
