Yeah, when I ordered it said the Hi-Val were CBO OM's code for Backordered. If it doesn't come in time, I'll returned everything to OM B&M

What about the UPC situation???!!!!!!!! For the verbatim 48x cdrw, both the office max $20 rebate and the manufacturer's $30 rebate require ORIGINAL UPCs!!!! How can you get both?

Considering that the add listed both, OM should accept the copy and the original will go to the manufacturer. If you are really concerned, send a copy of the add in with your OM rebate.

EDIT: Beat me to it

I'm afraid lsman is correct (i.e. that the Pacific Digital Mach52 is a BTC drive, not a Lite-On) thus making my previous assumption incorrect (i.e. that the Pacific Digital 52x burner I received is 99% likely a Lite-On).

I haven't opened up the box of my Pacific Digital Mach52 yet (which may be the only sure-fire way for me to confirm this); however, I was making my assumption based on the shape and position of the visible eject button on the front cover of the drive's box. To the best of my knowledge, Lite-On CD-RW's tend to have a single eject button (w/ rounded sides) located on the right-hand side of the drive's faceplate. The image on the front of the Pacific Digital Mach52 drive has such a button in the same spot; however, the image also has the drive door open (w/ a CD sitting in it) thus blocking the view of the rest of the faceplate.

Click here to see the BTC 52x24x52 drive (notice that there are 2 buttons to the right, not 1)
Click here to see the Pacific Digital Mach52 drive (rather useless image)
Click here to see the Pacific Digital Mach48 drive (see right-hand side of the page)

The Mach48, like the BTC drives, has 2 buttons to the right. If you assume that the Pacific Digital Mach48 & Mach52 drives have the same faceplate (and same buttons), then the Pacific Digital drives are indeed BTC's, not Lite-On's.

The OM rebate form clearly shows that they take a copy of receipt and UPC...in fact they tell you to send a copy at the bottom under "Submission Guidelines".

P.S. I wonder if they send a Verbatim if it will be 48x12x48 or something better?

I got a Cendyne for $59.

Rebate gets tricky: I only see Mfr's $30 rebate form, OfficeMax $20 rebate form for Cendyne is nowhere can be found. Manager told me, it is a subsituate for Verbatim, so I should use OfficeMax's Verbatim rebate form. I feel uneasy for this.

Why feel uneasy? Write a note on the rebate form stating that the drive was substituted. If the rebate gets rejected, goto Office Max store with ALL of the copied rebate stuff, and talk to the manager. If they cant help you, tell them you would like the district supervisors phone #. The store manager will most likely give you a.) a store credit for $20 or b.) $20 cash. I would push for (b.) but if you shop at Office Max alot, it might be easier to get (a.).

I wouldnt sweat it. Send the rebate in. If you ask OM to look up the drive in their computer, their sku# acutally has (3) drives under it,
1. Verbatim
2. Cendyne
3. Digital Research

Is this a great country or what? Scored online the Verbatim drive, Hi-Val winmodem, eagle/flag mousepad, and the E-works cdrs. With the 25/100 coupon and Fla tax the out the door (to the door delivery?) cost is $83.06. After rebates, a net profit of $.9.94!!

I got a Pacific Digital 52x replacement as well. It is a BTC. It says it right on the drive itself. I did burn 1 cd with it and it is much quiter than my other burners. At least that is a plus.

I will go in today and ask how I send in the rebate now.

Go ahead and open the box, you can still return it even if you install and use the drive.

Hopefully someone will know the answer to this.......

Went to Officemax, and the gave me a Cendyne since they were out of the Verbatim. There is a $30 rebate on the Cendyne, but any idea if the $20 will work (that was specifically for the Verbatim). The extra rebate for the Verbatim is on the rebate coupon that has like 50 products on it. Any ideas?

Yeah, I realize that; however, I'd rather not open the drive as I may want to give it away as a gift.

Actually, under "Submission Guidelines", the area where it says "copies are acceptable" is marked by an asterisk. If you look at the form, #43 (the verbatim CD-RW), has no asterisk.

However, I called the 888 number at the bottom and they said it was OK to send in copies of the receipt and UPC. They said they are aware of the problem.

For those that were asking earlier, I got in on a Cendyne CD-r/rw deal a while back, and mine was a Verbatim.

It is a 32x so that can kind of place the time frame it is less than 6 months though.

It burned Cd-rw to start, but now it won't read CD-rw or burn them at all.

For those concerned about Verbatim rebates with Cendyne products, let me state my 2¢ worth:

On Black Friday, OM advertised a FAR Cendyne 16x DVD-ROM. It was actually a $45 drive w/ a $25MIR and a $20MIR.
[*] Both rebate forms were mailed to Miami, FL PO Boxes (different BOX #'s, different OFFER #'s)
[*] Both rebate forms were listed as Cendyne Rebate Offers
[*] Both rebates are trackable at www.rebateshq.com
[*] The rebate form for the $20 MIR contains a bunch of Cendyne products (where some items have $50 rebates)

Now, I haven't yet received EITHER of those rebates; however, within the last few days, BOTH rebates have been assigned CHECK #'s. That means my $$$ is on its way. Anyway, here's what's really interesting about this:

The $25 rebate is listed on www.rebateshq.com as:
$25 Mail in Rebate on Cendyne Internal 16x IDE DVD-ROM (Office Max only)

The $20 rebate is listed on www.rebateshq.com as:
Up to $50 Mail in Rebate on Select Verbatim Products (Office Max only)

I never purchased a VERBATIM DRIVE; however, my $20 Cendyne Rebate is being listed as a $20 Verbatim Rebate.

My point? If you're concerned about sending in a Cendybe UPC code w/ a Verbatim offer, I wouldn't sweat it too much.

lite-on should make all the other sellers of their rebadged burners include a little logo that says "lite-on inside".

I got the same answer from my OfficeMax as Moonkey got. The manager told me he would refund me the $20 if I got a letter rejecting it. I'm sure it will be fine. Just submit the $20 Verbatim Rebate.

I took the plunge today after reading this post. I headed over to OM to check out what they had. Out of the Verbatim, but the guy directed me to the Cendyne's. About 8 of them on the shelf, and all had the Samsung tag on the back. So I snagged one. Also got the E3 100 pack of disks.

Total plus tax: $69.35
Rebates: $30 + $20 + $25 = +$5.65

I'm assuming I get those rebates as specified, and if so, how did I come out ahead?? I thought you had to the $100/$25 off deal to come out ahead.

Is my math/thinking right?

My Cendyne is Samsung SW-248F.

It only shows 2 MB buffer under Nero Info Tool, not 8 MB. I wonder why?

A few others I have, sound like "vacum cleaner"; this one is pleasantly quiet.
