This pisses me off even more. I am looking through the posts and I see a number of people who ordered LATER than I did but were given the correct Order Date. It looks like I gonna have to whine like everyone else to get any satisfaction.

I was sent an email confirmation with customer and order number on 11/30. Never during this time did I reordered the machine. I figured if they made me reorder, I wouldn't buy the computer without the rebates.

I got my machine on 12/5. But when I looked at the invoice and packing slip, it said that my order date was 11/30/2002! Conveniently making my order invalid for $440 in rebate.

If you think Dell had a ton of email before with the Fedex issue, this will definitely crank it up a notch. I called FSS today but they are only open on M-F. I emailed them, hopefully this will be rectified otherwise I am sending the machine back.

I keep my cool when I found out my Fedex account had been billed for standard overnight at $108 even though I specifically said Fedex Ground. I rationalized the rebates would make up for it. But I'm gonna seek legal recourse if I am out $108 shipping (plus whatever it's gonna cost me to send the machine back).

i'm still pissed at dell about this shipping thing, 2 day i wouldn't have minded, but why the hell would they have shipped my order next day when it said ground?? now i'm going to owe nearly $200 in shipping. oh yeah, i'm going to fight this one

about the rebates, i made copies of the packing slip as all it is is a b&w slip of paper anyway, i also sent all my rebates certified mail to be sure that they got there and there's no fing around

You know, I think the overnight thing is Dell's way of getting back at all the people who jumped in on this deal using the fedex account. From what I see, a lot of people went this route and it must be irritating the crap out of the Dell's educational department that they are getting ripped.

No way they are making any money off of these rebate sales.

When someone specifically says ground, the next logical option is the least expensive air rate, NOT overnight.

Dell cannot "get back at me" for taking this deal. I put Ground shipping, I did not authorize them to ship 2 day. They cannot change what I've ordered. Can you imagine if they had changed everyones processors from 2.4 to a 2.6 or whatever and charged everyone b ecause they ran out of 2.4's? This place would be bedlam (I can't imagine chubby wallet). There is a reason I picked ground, it was 15$ vs the 90 for 2 day. Dell will be getting back their computer unless this can be resolved.

Dell just wants to be sure you are all getting your new systems intact... without big dents in the boxes that UPS likes to give you free of charge... Thank Dell for taking it upon themselves to upgrade your shipping...

Are they going to rebill my credit card for the charges? Or is Dell going to suck up the shipping? Anyways, I'm excited to learn that my system shipped.

The same thing happened with me. My computer has arrived via UPS(originally specified Fedex), and I was not charged for shipping. Dell did this to other people as well. Switching the orders to UPS ground is probably cheaper for them then eating the cost of accidently shipped fedex AIR. it only took a day for my compter to be delivered anyway.

Not Dell, the entity that is a computer company but the very human customer reps that represents Dell.

The same reps that must be saying to themselves, these people are gonna get back $700 in rebates and they're bitching about an additional $100-110 fedex charge.

The same reps that gives attitude to bargain hunting shoppers. As evident by some of the posts here.

The rebates have absolutely nothing to do with what Dell chose to ship the computers with. What if I had just ordered something else like a monitor and asked Fedex ground and they shipped 2-day? I'm sure
you wouldn't be saying that Dell has a right to think like you think they are. Simply because there are $700 in rebates on this purchase does not make the shipping change that Dell did any more justifiable. The extra 100$ AND my time to send in all my reabtes AND the hassle of trying to resolve them if something happens.... that extra shipping charge is the deal breaker for me. People are going to spend alot of time getting these rebates right, and this Dell shipping fiasco is just more time wasted. So yes, that extra 75$ breaks the deal for me, I'm sure you could care less but I can do alot of things with $75, especially 75$ I didn't authorize Dell to spend.

i just really hope that i can get my money back for them charging me next day air, 2nd day woudln't have been so bad, but next day actually kicked my ass, this is just too much to worry about for me, this is pretty bad if you ask me

Don't get me wrong. You're absolutely right about the shipping. If ground is specified (I specified), the only way they can ship air is after they get buyer's approval. In fact, if you took this to small claims, you would have a very strong case, provided you specified ground (some didn't).

Relatively speaking, since my issue is worse, I'm willing to forgo shipping charges as long as my rebates are valid.

You've got to ask yourself if even after all the rebates, if $75 is a dealbreaker, then maybe you don't really need a new computer. In my case, my 700MHz P3 ain't getting it done anymore.

I got mine shipped via FedEx 2nd day as well. But the shipping charge didn't show up on my CC yet. I'm waiting to see how much they charge me.

BTW, I'm planning to sell the 256MB I got from the system. Not trying to violate the rules, but I thought I would just let people in this deal know about it.

So what if you chose "lowest cost shipping" and your system was sent via APXShip and then USPS? Should that have been a $90 shipping charge? For just a tower and no monitor, it is a bit unreasonable.

What exactly were you paying for ground? I wil take them on for the shipping costs if it is incorrect. My brother ordered the system so I do not know the terms of the order.

I missed delivery todaym but will not miss it Monday!

EricBoo, I too chose lowest cost of shipping and it was shipped USPS...I dont think this is fair at all either especially since people are getting their systems faster at a fraction of the hefty $90 costs. Have you talked to dell yet to see if they will reimburse us for shipping?

$90 shipping is outrageous! I bought my system because they offered me something I could not refuse. I am abiding by their rebates and will not try and rip them off, and I expect the same from them. If you can get an empty computer case shipped 3-day Fedex from Newegg for under $20, then I feel ripped off.

I will contact Dell once my system is in hand, but I would really like to know what others who chose a different shipping method besides "lowest cost" are paying. I think that would help my argument. If Dell is not helpful, I will first contact my credit card company regarding the grossly inflated shipping charges and dispute the charge for as long as possible, and then find out if there is any recourse.

Heck, I got something in the mail the other day regarding a class action suit against Amex, where they were computing interest on an average daily balance for people without clearly stating the method.

It's the fight that is the fun part...

I've got to give my props to Dell customer service. I was expecting the worse case scenario. A small claims lawsuit.

But I got a really nice CSR and she was able to find my original confirmation with the order date. She said she couldn't send me a new packing slip or invoice since it was already in the computer but that she could process the rebates for me. So I won't have to send in the rebates. I should be getting them in 8-10 weeks. I went for the memory upgrade so my total eligible amount is $540. I'm taking the hit on the shipping but besides that, I'm good.

From over at chubby wallet, I see that there is a new Dell 8250 deal on now. I'd like to get in on it this time. Could someone repost the info on how and where to set up your own shipping account with UPS or FedEx (and which is better) so I don't have to wade through this massive thread trying to get all the little bits of info. Thanks.

Just checked Dell's site, and then the FedEx link...apparently it was shipped last week, and no one was home on Friday...so I call my mom, and she tells me that she had picked up some packages at the shipping center, but thought it was a chair she had ordered, so it's just sitting in the laundry room. But at least it's all there, hopefully...just have to run my sister through the setup, and they can finally get away from the K6-2 450 they've been using.

Now to deal with the invoices, and whatnot. Since I'm not home, can someone tell me what comes in the box? My mom said she received something in the mail too, about the computer, so I'm curious as to what that is...? Thanks.

Usually Dell will send an invoice slip separately via regular mail on your new system. The box just comes with a packing slip.

I got two 8250 systems in one Dell order...I didn't get two packing slips, but rather
a single packing slip with a quantity of "2" in front of each item.

I am wondering how to handle the rebate submissions for the two systems...Should I just include the exact same packing slip in each submission (obviously a copy in one), along
with the rebate submission? Is the rebate house gonna be smart enough to figure out that
I am submitting the rebate twice with the same packing slip because the shipment included
two systems?

(Note: I ordered through the EPP program, so I was allowed to order more than one system...
that's not a problem).

Anyone know?

Kwad
