So I signed up for FedEx account...

And by a chance of luck, my Visa card got stopped because I put the Dell transaction on my Visa and apparently because of the higher amount and physical distance of Dell to my regular purchasing area they stopped by card thinking it was stolen or something. I of course found this out at 7:15AM at Staples trying to purchase a the LCD monitor. So I spent about 1 hr on my cell in the phone working this out so I could use my Visa.

Anyway the intersting part is that apparently FedEx has put in a $10 request for money. Now before you get all excited it is possible they just did this to verify the account exists and perhaps FedEx will not actually take this amount out. (For those of you who do not know, when you take a CC transaction there are 2 processes, 1 request for money, and 2 actual transfer of money). And if FedEx does not do the second step you will not be charged. Just thought you guys might want to watch your statments just in case.

DId anyone get an email when they signed up for their fedex account? I got nothing, but I do have an account number, although it won't let me logon to the site with it, so I don't know what's going on.

Pending Charges
The pending charges line of your Account Summary shows the charges that have been authorized but not yet posted to your account. Actual charges are the amounts of purchases that have posted to your account. To understand the difference between pending charges and actual charges, it's helpful to review the charge process. When you present a credit card to a merchant for payment, the first thing that happens is that the merchant requests authorization for the amount of the purchase. This occurs when your card is swiped. In most cases, the merchant knows the exact amount of the purchase and requests authorization in that amount. For example, if you go to the market and buy $82.75 worth of groceries, the market would ask for authorization to charge that amount to your card. Until the charge posts to your account, this amount would show in the pending charges line of your Account Summary.

Sometimes, though, the merchant doesn't know how much you'll charge until after the authorization must be made. A good example of this is at the gas pump.

When you swipe your credit card, a request for authorization is made immediately. Because the amount of the purchase is unknown at that point, the merchant asks for authorization up to a specified amount. For this example, the authorization request is for $50. This amount also shows in your Account Summary as a pending charge.

Your gasoline purchase ends up being $22.50. That's the actual charge that will be paid to the merchant.

In rare instances, the actual charge is posted to the account before we receive an updated list of pending charges. It can appear that you are being charged both the authorized amount of $50 and the actual purchase amount of $22.50. In reality, the pending charge will usually be removed with the next update. In no case will you be charged both amounts.

In order to change our account number to Fedex Ground Account number (7 digits only) go to my account and change the shipping address/details.
You can change all the details there of your carrier account.
I just figured that out searching the website!!

Chaco, I can't find where you can change carrier on Dell's site. I went to my account page, and search through pretty much all the options - I can change everything, except carrier! Where exactly is this option???

You have to go to my account, and then Shipping preferences.
There in Shipping Method click edit and do whatever you want

Hm... There is no Shipping Method option anywhere. All there is Preferred Shiping and Secondary Shipping. All they allow to do is to change your shipping address, but not carrier or shipping method! How can that be that you see this option and I dont??

I just went there and I can see it.
Try this, place a new order (do NOT confirm it) and when selecting shipping method include your carrier and account #. (this is when calculating tax & shipping.
Probably then you'll be able to modify it.

I had sent an email to my sales rep about the rebates and shipping method and got a reply back saying that the rebates are valid and hopefully my order will go out ground.

I need advice to purchase more memory for the Dell 8250 of the deal.
It comes with two modules of 128 + 256 MB.
Can I buy a module of 256 or 512 Mb? or is the same either?
And what kind of memory should I buy?

You need rdram 1066 in pairs. This mobo has 4 rdram slots so you do not have to sacrafice any memory when you upgrade. You will need to add 2 sticks of memory of the same size and perferably of the same make/model.

Does the new memory need to be the same manufacturer or speed as the original two sticks? I'm guessing not, but just wanted to check.

Thx.
