NOBODY IS GOING TO GET FEDEX GROUND!!!!!!!!!! I just had a long educational conversation with a professor-like CSR at FedEx. He explained to me in many words that Fedex doesn't allow a third-party to bill you for Ground service. It does though for Air shipments. He said a way out is to issue a call tag. This means that you call Fedex with exact pick-up location address and your account number - they will then inform their ground service to send a driver there with a preprinted shipping label. Of course, you need to know the day shipment is ready to be picked up... Give up on this guys...

Heyheys, whew, its been an eon since I have posted on Anandtech =P. Anyways, I am a Hot Deal veteran, and this is the bonafide details which I got from both FedEx and Dell combined.

I spoke to my personal salesperson named Jim W. whom some of u might have. He was very courteous, and apparently has been swamped by customers inquiring about this hot deal. He says that he knws SOME website (not aware of the AT effect it seems =P), which is notifying its members about this. The orders and inquiries came in waves. First the orders came, then a ton of phone calls came in about the rebates. A day later ANOTHER ton of phone calls come in..ALL about FedEx ground, LoL!!!!

You CAN do FedEx ground shipping, it is an option. Dell will not bill you for shipping (so ask them to wipe off that $90 if it is there already). Dell will need the Ground number, Make sure you have a 7 digit number, dont listen to any BS that a FedEx holiday temp worker might say, you need a 7 digit number, because the 9 digit numbers will only work for billing purposes on FedEx ground, nothing else. This is how you word it.

FedEx: Yada yada, we dont have any 7 digit numbers to give out, the 9 digit number works for ground and Express, by FedEx law.
Anandtecher: I do understand and acknowledge your new number system. But please tell me MY 7 digit number for ground. It is there.

They will give u ur 7 digit number, call back if they dont.

Here is the kicker: You will be billed seperately by FedEx themselves, something between $18 and $30, hence, eliminating the third party clause I just read.

Also, if your tower is in the building phase, you will not be able to change ANY parts during the ordering process, but you can wait until you get ur computer, then call returns department and ask for new part, they will ship the new part and a prepaid shipping label., and you can ship the old part back for credit. I wanna personally change the CDROM back to a burner, and make the HD 7200 RPM again.

Good luck all. Keep those hot deals coming!

Will that actually work with the 7 digit? I got one of those e-mailed it to my CSR, no response yet, then kept on reading and called fedex, all the call tag stuff seemed difficult to do, so I called UPS and made an account with them for ground service, then called dell, didn't get my csr, still haven't ever had contact with him actually, but person I talked to said she was sending him and e-mail to get back to me, cause I might want to make changes on order and shipping, but I gave here the UPS # so now they have all my numbers, fedex 9, fedex 7, and ups, given in that order, so hopefully I'll get my comp shipped for about $30 from some ground division.

Also some quick questions, I did the base configuration of $780, minimal as could be, but I'm thinking if I can to go to the dvd drive for a bit more, (don't have one now), also thinking about the other video cards instead of the mx, or any other upgrades.... any suggestions, is it better to try to change now, or to just get the system and upgrade it on my own. Also for increased ram, or having the non-integrated sound card.

Any suggestion of what to change or what things are worth the upgrade price.

Also any idea if they would even consider applying the new free shipping or $150 off stuff to the deal? if so it would be insane.

dang, so we have to get 7digit numbers now? This is getting complicated....
Oh, and I still haven't gotten an e-mail telling me when they are going to
ship the computer.....is it just me? Good luck everyone

I put in the shipping notes to use Fedex Ground, and it was delivered yesterday via Fedex 2day. Do you think it's worth it to call back and $#$%#$%#$%?

How much did it cost?

If it's less than $90, you still saved money.

Call Dell and complain!!! Simple as that!

I called and complained that I specifcially stated to use FedEx Ground on this shipment (since I found out that my computer was also shipped via 2nd Day air this morning). The represenative I spoke to told me that they have had numerous complaints and are in the process of figuring out what they need to do. She subsequently gave me a case # and told me that they will probably have an answer by tomorrow evening at the latest. I guess they must be getting flooded with calls regarding improper shipment. I also called FedEX and asked them about my account and the default method of shipping. I was told that my 9-digit account works for both FedEX Express as well as FedEX Ground and when I supply the account number to a company, I state the method of shipment that I want. Can't be more clear than that!

Dont be rude but make your point clear and lets all hope Dell does the right thing and reimburses us for the extra charge!

Email addresses for all dell employees are always firstname_lastname@dell.com

So it would be Jeff_Paris@dell.com

I also asked for Fedex ground, and was shipped 2 day air. Cost me $80 vs the $20 fedex says it would have cost ground. I'm going to let everyone else call to see what happens.
Some people at gorda wallet say they have to fax the invoice and showing ground vs 2 day air and they get a refund of the difference but I don't know yet.

OMG they shipped mine overnight.
I have had a FedEx account for several months now.
This is a tough call, still no charge on my CC.
I can imagine how much it will be though.

Just got my order.

The case is neat I like how it opens up with the hing instead of a panel. I noticed there is a short maybe 1/2cm long piece of wire missing from the ata-80wire ribbons. I hope this is intentional and will still work I havent tested it out yet... still waiting for it to get to room temperature before turning it on.

I personally liked the 4100 series cases the best. The hinge is kinda neat at first, but it makes it hard to get to certain parts of the case. I'd rather be able to remove the panel completely (it can't do that, right? I'm still waiting for my order to arrive...)

That piece of IDE cable "missing" is for the cable select feature to work correctly. The 8250
supports select for the devices attached to it.

Thanks kwad guy

Lavamatrix I only got 2 emails and still got the computer so you should be fine

The motherboard does not look like it is ATX it looks like its either mATX or some weird server type because the board looks to square.

The board only has 4 pci slots (this can lead to some problems)
4rimm slots
The memory is made by samsung if anyone wants the model numbers I can give it to you.
I wish they did not spend so much money/mobo space on 8 usb ports when they could have put a better integrated audio sound system in.
The 9700tx card is on a red pcb (which I believe it means it was made by ati and not a 3rd part vendor)
