I got the same "not eligible" message on rebatestatus.....

I already gave them the FSS# and am a student (and gave my student ID and all the info they asked for). However, which FSS "institutions" were eligible??? Maybe Dell has a way out??? Quote from the rebate forms: "Mail-In Rebate offer valid only with eligible U.S. Dell Employee Purchase Program and Dell Faculty, Student and Staff Dimension PC....." Was my school really eligible???

In any case, I'll give Dell one, maybe two calls at the most. Sure, it's a nice computer, but it's not THAT nice....... It only cost me $14 FedEx Ground to get it here. I've got $28 use from it so far....... They can have it back.....

For $100 from each of us, some sleazy lawyer would file a class-action lawsuit that would look bad in the press for Dell. In fact, just the threat of (the bad press) might make them think twice.

Sure, maybe Dell didn't intend to sell discounted PCs to everyone with a valid student ID and FSS#, but THEY made the deal available.

For those of you that lied, I suggest taking whatever discount Dell offers you.....

I had a long conversation with one of the reps from Dell today. He tried to explain to me that only certain universities were eligible. I explained to him that I purchased the computer because of the rebates, including rebate 036179. They got what they wanted from me--my money. I got part of what I wanted from them--the computer and some of the rebates. I still want my other $100. The rebate did not indicate only certain universities were eligible, nor did they list them.

The rep from Dell (rep from hell?) eventually said he would look into it further and call me back. I'll wait until Monday. If I don't hear by then, back to the phone I'll go. They made a deal with me. I held up my end. I expect them to hold up their end.:|

I've got a question. After the rebates that everybody did get, and after all the crazy shipping issues that people were having, what was the bottom line cost of this system for y'all?

Dell will not give you that information. I asked, and he would only repeat, "Your university did not participate in the promotion." He would NOT tell me the name of any university that did participate. Maybe there weren't many that did.

If anyone can figure out how to discover which universities participated, it would certainly help.

I know seven of my college friends and all of them has been denied for $100/- rebate with a postcard reply. And also, for all of us, its showing - it is being processed. That doesn't mean that you will get the rebates. Even this rebate was showing initially that IT IS BEING PROCESSED.
We all need to unite to get the money vack from Dell. ANy suggestion from all you GURUs.
Thanks

Really strange...
I called Dell and because I got the same thing: that I wasnt at an institution that the rebate was valid at.

They told me my college actually WAS valid, but says there are only about 10 valid schools on the 'list'.

i really lucked out, you guys probably arent so lucky.

call 1-888-987-3355
press 3.

wait for a rep, and tell them to transfer you to the rebate dept for the 8250 rebate thingy.

there is a special dept for "us"

hopefully your institution is on the list?

best of luck. i dont know why i was initially rejected but whatever.

Only the 036179 rebate is in question at rebatestatus.com. The FSS letter offerered me a $300 dollar credit but doesn't directly mention which or how many rebates they are referring to........anyone thoughts?

if i dont get any rebates, i will have paid well over $900 for my system.

that includes CA sales tax and my 2 day air fedex rape charge that dell the bastards screwed up on and could not reverse.

my $710 in rebates better come or i am going to email michael dell. (and i can get that email address, and i will try as hard as i can).

UCLA is an educational institution and we even participate in their buy one as a student program, which has been talked about on campus. we order through another company called kstdata.com

hell they sell dells in our student union. DOWN WITH DELL if i dont get my rebate.

i already got

on rebatestatus.com

i better get at least my other 4 rebates, or they will die. Can anyone tell me how to get the other $100 or even attempt to. it did not say anything about participating institutions or whatever on the rebate form.

You should be getting the FSS email from DELL in a few days. Check earlier posts for a sample of the email.

Have you tried calling? That seems to be the only other option other than waiting for a class action lawsuit.

Here's another place to start...

i doubt that they're gonna screw us on this. dell is a big company and they're not going out of business(not any time soon at least). There are so many people involved in this and if it comes down to a lawsuit, we'll win, i'm sure. so, let's not worry too much and give dell some time to work things out. Trust me, I'll be the first one to personally go after michael dell if this doesn't go through.

Wanna bet a $100 on Dell coming through with all the rebates?? Even in class action lawsuits you only get pennies on the dollar. I'm going to try and return the computer --- and I've learned not to buy Dell ever again!!
