I contacted Amex stating this time that I am requesting they investigate the fact that I followed through with Dell's option to return the computer and that Dell has not contacted me back ,which they have not in over a week. The issued a temporary credit for the full amount pending investigation. I just want my money back at this time. Anyone on this board could build a nice computer for the $642 Dell wants me to pay after their generous $300 credit offer.

I hope they pull through for me!

Rebate suckers!! I wish you the best, but that was a LOT of money to bet on rebates. Is it really worth all the headaches?

sweet...4 of my 5 rebates have status sent on rebate status ($610 worth) with shipping mine came to total ~$800...so right now I got a $190 computer...not too bad....although a $90 computer would be much better.

The $100 is still the invalid one.

Can anyone comment on the above, it is the message from the rebatestatus page. It been that way for over a week, but I still don't have any checks from Dell.

I know some people have already received their checks and was curious.

For those who don't have all of their rebates showing up on-line but have re-submitted them via fax, today a rebatstatus.com support rep told me the following:

They got swampped w/ resubmissions during the xmas holiday and they're currently processing resubmissions from the 2nd week of January. Of course he told me that AFTER I told him I faxed my re-submission in the middle of January; however, he offered to check if my fax was received and in queue. After being put on hold for about 3 minutes, he came back and said my fax was received and is in queue. I don't have alot of confidence in this information; however, I then asked how long I should wait for the rebate to show up on-line. He responded that if I don't see it listed by Tuesday of next week, call back.

BTW, 4 out of 5 of my rebates have shown up on-line. The missing rebate is the $200 Dimension 8250 Rebate. Furthermore, the $100 Earlybird Rebate has the rejection status others have already reported (i.e. school not participating in promotion). I'll deal w/ the rejected $100 Earlybird Rebate AFTER I see the $200 Dimension 8250 rebate show up.

I have received all of my checks except one, which is currently in the state that you have mentioned above. Basically it seems that it takes a few weeks to get the check cut after it enters the above state. I think that the message means that the rebate has been approved, and now they are just waiting for the funds from Dell to fulfill the rebate.

I filed a complaint with the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) for the $100 early bird rebate at FTC

I may file a complaint with the BBB also but the BBB really has no bite. With the FTC at least the authorities get involved.

If nothing comes of it I will still be quite happy with such a nice computer for sub-$250 (with taxes and such) is still very nice.

Yesterday the 4 rebates went to "you should receive your rebate soon..."
Today the Early Bird rebate finally showed up on rebatestatus.com, just in the
"We have received your submission..." mode now. Probably be rejected in a few
days. I will wait till all the rebates they plan to send me arrive, then I will contest
any left out.

What headaches? Unlike the majority, I've got some patience and I quietly waited and behold!.......4 rebate checks appeared. I didn't freak out, cry, scream, gnash teeth and fret every waiting second. I just sent the rebate forms in and waited. I figured they'd be swamped with requests and with people having tantrums not getting their $$ in a week or two. Of course, I did qualify for the rebates which seems to be the exception and not the norm.

I, too, did get bounced on the early bird rebate, tho. But, $610 back on a $799 computer isn't shabby at all. No one could build a P4 system for $189.

I'm a professor at DU and Dell agreed to send me $710 in 8-10 weeks, if I agreed to purchase an 8250 on 11/26/02. On 12/17/02 I correctly completed all the forms and sent in the paper work. This was 9 weeks ago... One rebate has already been listed as rejected for false reasons. I am strongly considering that if I haven't been paid what I'm owed by the 11th, and I receive no satisfaction via reasonable efforts to collect, then I will issue a press release through PR Newswire. This will alert thousands of major newspapers, magazines, wire services, and TV and radio stations in the United States that Dell is outright stealing hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars from faculty members and students.

i actually emailed a guy from the boston globe who someone had linked a article that he had written about dell rebates. and he actually replied!

The FTC does not investigate individual rebate complaints. They say they file them in their database and if they begin noticing a pattern of rebate discontent for a particular company they may start investigating. Your best bet these days for this much rebate money is to file a compaint with the Texas state attorney general.

Well, this is odd... My rebate # 36179 shows up twice, one is rejected the other has been processed.... I actually didn't notice that it was listed twice (I was happy that 5 showed up) until recently.. so I'll resubmit the missing one tomorrow. Just thought it was odd that 36179 shows up twice.

Heys, I went for this deal also, I go to UC Berkeley, and my campus doesnt have an FSS ID because we order through Dell premier website, whatever that means. All of my rebates are showing up as pending on the rebatestatus website, still havent gotten any yet.

Total Headache:

- The FedEx fiasco (strangely, i never got charged for shipping at all, by FedEx or Dell (i asked for gorund, got overnite), cancelled credit card and got new number just in case ). I also have Weaver for a rep, and you can just tell from his tone that he is probably cursing his very existance because of this deal...but it wasnt professional of him at all to accuse me of linking to the Dell program (I actually navigated manually and selected options) and then accusing FedEx of screwing up (ground is ground!)

- All rebates sent two times, one time to original addresses, 2nd time directly to customer service, in ScottsDale, Az. Soon after second submissions, rebatestatus shows all of them.

- Spent two days on campus, and at Scholars Workstation looking for FSS Id, no one knows what im talking about. Called Dell EPP program, they said the number wont be necessary. Faxed and emailed copy of school ID. Asked for confirm, none received yet.

Current Status: No rebates received yet, no shipping charged, rebate status shows all 5 rebates as processing.

It would be nice for SOMEONE to have received all five rebates, yeesh! If anyone else from here ordered using Cal as their university, please update on whether we are one of the lucky 10 =/

The last time I spoke with someone at the rebatestatus.com, they told me that Dell had abruptly taken over their rebates. It seems like a lot of the folks are still getting some kind of status regarding their rebates on the rebatestatus site. Anyone know who's processing these rebates? My rebate status have been forever saying something to the effect of "it is being processed."

maybe if the boston globe reporter writes an article we can get our last $100 too.

Did you get a call from one of the Dell reps regarding some school id or something before the status changed? cause I sure didn't. Also, when did they say they received your rebate forms?

Did they first contact you and ask you to send the student ID or the fss number or did you on your own initiative send them? The Dell reps keep telling me to wait for an email or a phone call but no one has contacted me so far.
