This is a good time to buy hard drives. I think companies are trying to get rid of their soon to be lower capacity drives. So that they can start selling more higher capacity drives like the 750gb drives by seagate.

Your theory sounds nice except for the fact that about 95% of people who ordered this got the latest gen 7200.10 in the box. If seagate was trying to get rid of old low capacity drives, they wouldn't go shoving the latest drive in the box
As well, I imagine the capacities purchased are on a bell curve, most purchases are for medium capacity drives, not high capacity (or low). I think right now, 400 gigs is in the medium category
I think its just hdd companies finding better/cheaper manufacturing and the natural price pressure of the market. Pretty much all computer components always go down in price over time (even if you stick to the prices for each cutting edge line as they come out). The one exception is sometimes memory, it can actually go up. Also the high end graphics cards are often very expensive, but even those recently have dropped a bit (dropped as in when nvidia/ati introduce a new line, the list price is less than the previous gen when it was newly introduced).
For hdds specifically I imagine that most hdd platters are about the same cost to manufacture even as the size goes up, I doubt the platter costs go up the same rate as capacity. In other words, I doubt a 200 gig platter is twice as much to manufacture as a 100 gig platter, I'd guess more like 20%-40% more expensive.

So you're saying I have a chance at getting a 7200.10 in the box? Sweet!

hey guys i ordered my hard drive on 9/20 paid 109 and did free ground shipping.
I just got my hard drive today. Seems Outpost shipped my drive by Airmail. Cool.
Also I got the 7200.10.
Should I be happy or upset. Happy that I got a 400gb 7200.10 for 110.
Or upset that I probably won't be able to get my rebate on this. Since its only available for the 7200.9 version not the 7200.10.
What do u guys think Happy or upset?

ohhhh, good deal. how is that $26 rebate work? no idea. anyone knows?
You send in the form.
Its linked in the OP. If you haven't sent in this particular form before (its been running since I think June), then you'll get the amount of money thats listed on the list.
Note: Make sure to use the numbers from the BOX, not the drive itself. Being as the box matches up on the models on the list, whereas the drive is 7200.10 and doesn't match the list.
