I wasn't sure how good of a deal this really was, so I went to apple.com and configured an identical system. The total cost was $1,599, so you save about $500 already. Plus, the iSight is worth $150, and if you got that email about the $100 coupon then maybe that sweetens the deal quite a bit. If you sell the iSight for $100, then we're talking about $700 worth of savings.
EDIT: After further research, I realized the systems I was comparing the price of are not identical. The ones on apple.com are a newer model and have faster processors and other enhancements. Amazon is just clearing the older version out. However, this is still $200 cheaper than you can find anywhere else.
I have always been a PC guy, but I've been wanting to try out a powermac ever since mac OS X came out. I used to hate macs, but I love freebsd and the idea that this is UNIX + Good User Interface... well... Let's just say I have a craving to try it out, but I didn't want to spend $2000. So this is a good opportunity for me to try it out and keep it if I like it, or sell it if I don't.
I just hope I can make a final decision before they sell out. Anyone want to quickly chime in and tell me how great their powerMac is? or how much they wish they had a PC instead?
