I started with a clear head this morning. Got the system to post and am up and loading xp. weird! Has 2007 bios rev. No floppy to flash it with. 100 mhz oc so far, will step up hopefully hitting 3 gigahertz with E1500
Happy turkey day to all!

If you have an old flash drive of pretty much any size (128mb would work), you can download the HPFlash drive tool and make it bootable using a bootable floppy disk image, and then just copy your files on there to flash. I pretty much only use flash drive to update BIOS's as floppies are not reliable and are way too slow.

Send out to newegg for rma.
Luckly video card was still under warrenty so I rma that. Not at all impress with newegg.
Everytime I order from them (motherboards) they are open, not new.

Just curious, you weren't expecting this board to come as new, were you?

I expected them to be refurb and re-sealed. NOT un tested and broken.

Sorry, wasn't really trying to imply anything. I guess what I've dealt with on refurbs may differ, as one instance I received a refurb from Logitech through a different e-tailer that was complete garbage, and a second instance (from newegg) was boxed and marked refurb, but in like new condition. Personally, I don't expect more from a refurb other than hopefully a clean, new looking board, hopefully with an I/O shield. As far as sealed... with any Biostar product I've ever seen, new or refurbed, it's in an anti-static package but there is no tape to the box or other packaging.

As far as whether or not it's tested, I am pretty sure that one is on Biostar, not newegg, IMO. Since they're moving 100s and 100s of products on a daily basis, I doubt they could keep their price point if they insisted on testing everything before it went out the door... matter of fact, I can't think of anyone that would do that. As far as your board being broken, it's definitely unfortunate, and one would hope newegg would make it right, but outside of that, it really seems to me like a chance you take when buying a refurbed part. Personally, I am willing to take the chance for the savings, but I expect no more than a clean working board in a brown box. Biostar exceeded my expectations on everything thus far, though I have yet to assemble the system around the parts yet, as I've been waiting for a few things.

I finally found a couple of hours to install the board and the 3.73ghz sl7z4 cpu from my son's prior rig works fine. Antec earthwatts 430, Antec mini P180, Thermaltake CLP0537CPU cooler, and a Sapphire Ultimate HD 3850 make for a super quiet rig. No problem with fresh XP setup.

Got both my boards working on clean XP installs. One with DDR the other DDR2. Both with P4 3.0ghz cpu's. Cant beat them for the price.

Running a similar setup with a 3.0GHz P4. Been running memtest for the past few days with no issues from the Craigslist RAM that I picked up, and this cheapo refurbed board. Been 100% through all of the testing thus far, so I think I'm in good shape with at least one of the boards. Not sure if I'll ever really use the other one, but I suppose if I can get my hands on a P4 CPU, or the wife's MB in her HP craps out, I'll have something to fall back on.

Curious, DDR1? I don't think that is possible...

Built mine up with an E6400 and 4GB DDR2 PC5300 and a Radeon 4850. Works just fine.

(Note: after installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64, had to download BIOS and BIOS update tool for board to correctly identify the Conroe E6400).

Didn't notice anything like bulging caps or any other sign of a refurbished board.

built mine with an E4300 and 2x1gb sticks of super talent ddr2-667 for a cheap basic gaming system for a friend who had a most unfortunate fire in his last computer. worked perfectly and my board looked like new with no signs of capacitor issues, etc.
