Dead, still $895, but no more free bulb, or warranty. Glad to see the price didnt drop after the free promo, in a way, for that means they didnt fluff the price to make it like you were getting the stuff for free.

Linkage to the HD70.

As most know already this is one of the best sub $1k HD projectors on the market and this is super hot with the 1 year extending it out to a total of 3 (2 from the factory and 1 free GE extended) and a 2 year free lamp replacement warranty just made it even better.

Now with a FREE 92" Screen! AR

My Optoma H31 to me looks kick ass and this one is supposed to smoke it, so all I can say it its will knock your socks off matching this up with a good screen. I use a cheap 100" $50 Elite from Tiger Direct. I believe the site I linked last time I tried check out offered a 106" screen for $79, thats not a bad deal. From what I have read though the Optoma Grey Wolf II with the 1.6 gain and glass beads is really supposed to make a PJ picture pop. You can project these on a white wall, but to get the most from one you really need a screen.

Linkage to the Optoma H31 for $499

This is the one I have had since September of last year. It has been wonderful. Wont give it up but for another one. Will never go back to a small tv again. They offer a 3 year lamp warranty for $99 at checkout, I highly recommend you take it.

My PJ Picture

Another one

And one more.
Bare in mind these were taken with some ambient light in the room, fist pic show light in room when all were taken, and camera does these NO justice for it looks 10x better in person. If it looks soft or out of focus it is my camera and not the projector image, I got as good as I could with what I had.

Bigger too considering you can go to about 300 inches or larger. And yes you may have to have a dimly lit room to enjoy it but it puts out enough light on its own to light up the room nicely to where you wont need any lights on

I just love mine

OH and to give you a real size comparison. If your thinking of a 50" LCD or Plasma and have the room for a PJ. A 100" 16:9 screen is the size of 4 50" Plasma/LCD widescreen tvs.
Food for thought if you want big

Nice deal if you've got the right room (with light control) and the space for the throw distance. I got an H31 right after it came out and I have a 106" Dalite Hi Power screen. Gears of War and Burnout Revenge look insane even at 480p. I'll have to upgrade to the HD70 one of these days.

Good deal, but the costco deal is better. The same HD70 with a 92" screen for 999. Though no bulb warranty, costco has the best return warranty in the business, so I would trust them easily. This is online only though.

Also this is a nice projector. The color is not as good as the Mistubishi HD1000u, but it is very close, plus this projector does not suffer from the severe angle needs of the HD1000u when ceiling mounted. Though I prefer the Mits, this is still a great deal on a projector.

I bought the H31 in 2005, watched a lot of movies with it. I'm thinking about upgrading to a 720P capable projector, the H70 is on the top of my list.

Since when does costco carry the HD 70? They have a clone HD 6800 for $1499.99, but no HD 70 for 999 that I can see......

If it is there please show me where.

(sorry for the blank post....I still needed my coffee!)

Its a Hitachi PJ-TX100

Pretty darn affordable if you ask me.

dew.

Only things I see that would stop me are:

Old tech, came out in 2004 so its 3 years old, the HD70 would have a better HD chip and the small review on Projectorcentral mentions it has a soft look to it. Kinda a turn off for me.

Lamp hours are for only 2000, so it would be 100 hours less then the eco mode on the Optoma

Its LCD so the Contrast and blacks just wont be as good as what the DLP can match and there is a good chance of misalignment of the 3 displays leaving you with "ghosting"

With the Optoma it costs a bit more BUT I would get a free bulb bringing the cost right there down to this price, and the extended warranty to boot. Not to mention newer technology, faster color wheel for less chances of seeing rainbows, and its dlp so the blacks are 2nd only to CRT displays.

And I guess one more is fining a bulb for the Hitachi is a pain, I cant seem to find but one place that sells it.

Costco HAD the best warranty in the business. Now it's 90 days in California and on the website, and soon to be across the country.

Rio Rebel, while costco's warranty is nowhere near what it was its still probably the best you can do, 90 days return no questions, 2 years warranty (which as far as I can tell means return for replacement/repair as long as its broken). So unless I am mistaken if the machine breaks the warranty is basically what it was before (for 2 years anyway), only major difference is you can't walk in after 2 or 4 or 10 years and say I don't like this anymore give me something new.

Fair enough. It's still a good warranty. I just wanted to point out that the famous Costco warranty that we all rave about has changed.

I agree with you - for those who don't abuse there isn't a lot of difference.

Depends on what you consider "affordable"... You can get the (new) Mits HC3100 for about $1800 from an Ebay importer or from any asian dealer direct... this is a DC3 machine and quite an upgrade from the HD3000U which is already a great machine (slighty better blacks than the HD1000U)...

PNs above may be a bit "off" but look around on AVS forum if interested... I'm thinking about it... $1800 for a DC3 PJ is "good"...

I think he meant 3-chip DLP, with 3 DLP chips (R, G, B) and no color wheel. Not DarkChip3.

BTW OP, this deal is very tempting!

For under $1000 I would get the Mitsubishi 1000U. It is brighter. Don't underestimate the importance of brightness. When you see the ANSI lumens specs for a projector note that the projector is incapable of this level under the best conditions. They can come close if projecting graphics on a high gain screen.

In video mode the light output is a fraction of the rated value. For a 1200 ANSI lumens projector it may only be 400 ANSI lumens in video mode depending upon the projector.

In addition to that fact, within a short period of time (4 months or so) the bulb (projector lamp) begins to dim and continues getting dimmer until it either blows out or the picture is no longer watchable.

Too much emphasis is placed upon contrast ratio. Contrast ratio is moot if there isn't sufficient light. I spent a lot more (over $2000) for my LCD projector, but if I were doing it today and my price range was under $1000 I would buy the Mitsubishi 1000U.

John

EDIT: Some of you were talking about warranties from various vendors. Read them carefully. Many have special terms for projectors.

Hey funboy, how far are you sitting back from the screen ? I was thinking about a 1080P monitor but its only 42" and is going for over $1700. Its the sharp aquos model. But this is a great deal even though its only 720. Only thing is my room is not to wide. I think maybe only 14' across. Maybe a bit less ill have to measure it again. My couch would go up against the wall btw.

I have a HD1000u that I picked up from Projector people that I put up against this unit. Let me say, the HD1000u is much better.

Oh and Gi0rgi0, you can have it 10 feet from the wall you are throwing the image and get a 80 inch screen. So that is a little big more daunting than the 42" LCD and for consoles it is definately more fun!
