Just dug around there...can't find anything.

Maybe one of you guys can help me...firstly, does it seem like a load of crap that there is no phone support for Intel mobos? According to web site, all phone support for the mobos are a pay-per-call kinda deal. So if your system crashes, you have to email them for help? Does that make any sense at all?

Other than that, here's my problem. Running Antec case with SmartPower 350W power supply, just bought for this rig. Anyhow, when I put the system into sleep mode, it doesn't really go to sleep...all of the fans remain running (processor, ps, case, video card), and power is still routed out the USB. According to tech sheets, all system fans should turn off when system is in any of the suspend modes (S1 or S3), and I've tried both, along with fan control on and off, and the stupid thing STILL won't power down. WinXP Pro will go to sleep, and you can hear the drives spin down, and all that's left is the sounds of the fans...any suggestions?

And along those same lines, I've got 2 case fans running with the 4 pin connectors. Anyone think it would be better to switch over to 3 pin fans and let the "Intel Precision Cooling technology" control the speed of the fans to perhaps get the volume down?

Thanks!

Definitely switch over to 3-pin fans. As you may/may not know, 4 pin fans actually only use 2 pins for a power connection - 3-pin fans have that extra pin for fan management and sensing. And if Intel's included software isn't your thing, check out SpeedFan.

Sorry, haven't assembled my system yet to help out with the rest. Got one last final today and I'll get to it though - good luck!

Hey guys,
I got something to ask:
I got the Epox 4G4A+ already in my system. I will be getting this combo this coming Wednesday. Should I:

1) Keep the Epox and try to overclock the new chip coming? I am using the 1.6A@2.1Ghz, I usually don't waste my time much trying tweak every ounce out of a processor. If I get up to 2.9Ghz, should I keep the Epox 4G4A+ with this new chip? The Epox has been solid for me and no complaint here.

2) Or should I go with the new Intel combo and no overclocking? This would be more work for me since I got to take the system apart to put the new board in. At least with this board, I have the upgrade chance to the new hyperthread. However, if I can go 2.9Ghz with the Epox, it might be a while before hyperthread is within my financial reach. Since the new chip is not a hyperthread, I am thinking of keeping the Epox board. What do you guys think?

Can anyone tell us the chips they get, are any of them C1 stepping? Or is Intel just dumbing their B0 steppings?

Thanks.

Packdate on the box of my processor is 11/08/2002 and i got a C1 stepping. Personally im not worrying about overclocking on this system right now and the Intel board has HyperThreading support for future chips which is nice. My system is up and running fine with no problems right now.

Just one more reason not to believe everything that employees in the tech retail stores tell you. Now Intel has resorted to bribing them with kicbacks.

I was told by a friend of mine that a certain popular electronic gamestore would push certain brands by who had purchased that month from them. So, if a soccer-mom or someone asks them what the best system or game is, they would reply with that brand. I didn't believe him, but we went into that store and he asked the manager who 'owned' this month and he replied EA. I guess there is nothing to keep them from doing that, just seems a little devious.

I swear by Intel myself, but I believe they need to look at replacing some of the tech retail sales people with robots. Oh wait, robots would probably have some prime directive that kept them from lying just to sell a product. Scratch that.

Hey Smartt,
You are referring to quite few in numbers. I got the combo coming but I always offer my customers the best their money can buy. Intel is not the only product that we sell. Like all retail store endorse gold cables, I don't since saving could mean a lot to many customers and keep them happy with my honesty so they can come back and honestly get a good opinion out of me. So not all of the retail sellers are the same, so spare the good ones the beating. Of course, there are cars' salemans out there too.

good point... it may just be some retailer's practices

Cool Smartt,
I think it's more of the associate practices than the requirements of the retailers. The retailers suggest and the associates have the options but as long as you sell high in $ amount they could not careless as $ is being made.
I have to admit that a lot of the associates get into the ass kissing with the boss to make themselves important. I don't really care about that since I am always honest with the customers since there are plenty of products to go around. I find that with honesty, customers are more patient when a product is out of stocks. They are more than willing to wait for me to order for them. I just wish that OM put more power into my hands to get those stuffs that other retailers cannot get. I enjoy dealing with customers. I guess that makes the difference. By the way, I trained all of my associates to avoid kissing ass since there are plenty of low paying jobs out there, also kissing ass deplete your dignity and selling quality.

Yeah, I work down at Sam's Club and a member came yesterday thanking me for being honest about the computer he purchased...he said it runs like a champ and shook my hand...that made my day

EDIT: I called intel and they told me that UPS doesn't ship overnight to Hawaii on their saver program (I might have to check that), but I won't get charged any shipping, which rocks

Still no code for me today ....

Should I give up? I know I qualified and that I filled everything out right. Sent my information in on November 5th, I believe. Man, I was counting on this for a Christmas present, too.

Cooling system update -
Since there's no thread elsewhere about it, just thought I'd pass along what I've learned so far. Firstly, don't plan on calling Intel tech support for the mobo - they won't talk to you without charging $25 for the call. Secondly, updating the bios apparently fixes the problems I've had with putting the computer into sleep mode.

Just in case anyone else was having issues...

Me neither... I wonder who they ask from the HR department, because if that's that reason I won't get my board, I'm going to be P*SSED!

How much longer do you think I should wait for something to arrive? A few few more days or until the end of the week?
If the code doesn't show up, I might be forced to get a watercooling rig for my Athlon XP instead...why the h*ll did Intel have to outsource this to such an company?.... *sigh*

If I don't get mine today I'm going to have to order a board and processor from Newegg, because I need to have everything by Friday.

You're talking about Electronics Boutique and I work there. While it is true that several companies have paid us for promotional consideration, we have not been required, nor have I seen any of the employees at my store blatantly lie to any customer. Most of the promotional effect was the display space at the front of the store, answering the phone with a certain jingle, and offering special deals on that month's vendor.

If someone asks which console is best, I still gave the same "Nintendo has the best first-party games. Xbox is the most powerful. PS2 has the most games." line as always, even during Nintendo month.
