Can you purchase this online and get the office depot rebate? I noticed on the rebate form it says the "original cash register rebate"? That makes me nervous.

I couldn't find a printable coupon for b&m, so I tried to order online & use the online O.D. coupon $20 off $75.This drive was backordered, and I could not add it to my basket. I checked stock at my local b&m, and they said they had two and would hold one for me. After thanking the csr, I jammed to my local O.D. After mgr. approval, and explaining that I couldn't purchase online, they let me use my $25 off $75 one time only coupon from Office Max.com. Now I'll use the $30 rebate. $99.99 - $25=$74.99 less $30 rebate=$44.99 plus tax. (Lite-On). Thanks for hot deal guys, a 24x burner for less than $50....awesome!

FYI : If nothing else works, some Office Depot stores will accept printable coupons from other office stores. Staples has a $20 off $100 coupon that Exp. 1-31. As always YMMV .

Here is a reply from a earlier post : (I just called a PD CSR about the rebate and it has been confirmed that you can order online (which lets you use the coupon discount) then make a copy of your e-mail confirmation and send that in with the packing slip and the UPC and rebate form and all will be honored so that comes out like this)

I'm just a little concerned because I've heard some bad things about the 24x drives being very picky as to the media you use. >>




I got in on that VeloCD 24x, and have used lots of media, including HP, Ricoh, PNY, TDK, Sony, and CompUSA brand. I'm not sure what the speeds of the discs were, but atleast 8x. Hope this helps.

<< I got one of these recently from Staples and it was a Mitsumi. The main difference between this and the Lite-On was that the Mitsumi has a 12x vs. 10x re-write on the Lite-On, and the Lite-On can copy SD2 but the Mitsumi can't (not a huge problem since there is a software workaround using BetaBlocker and CloneCD). The specs for the Mitsumi drive were supposed to include a 16MB buffer, but it only shows up as 2MB in NTI CD Maker 2000 Standard (bundled with this drive instead of Nero 5.5). The Lite-On is a faster burner but the Mitsumi appears to be more solidly constructed. Don't know about the long run though. Here's some info/benchmarks:

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought all drives nowadays come with a 2MB buffer internal, and the other "buffer" that is used is a swapfile on your harddrive. I am not referring to the larger swapfile that can be changed from like 8mb-128mb... this is like a swapfile for the swapfile.

I have never heard of a 16MB internal buffer before, but maybe I am just behind the times.

That leaves me out.
After getting the OD mgr to knock off over $100 to PM, I might be risking it going back in to return/rebuy for a newer dated receipt.

I don't have a instore coupon, just a coupon code that may or may not be accepted in the stores.

What some are doing to get the $20 coupon discount in the stores, is to order on-line using the $20 off $75 coupon, then printing out the page showing the price after coupon discount and taking that to the stores, saying that it's out of stock online and hoping they will honor the on-line coupon.

Another way I've heard about is to put in a back order (if it's out of stock) using the $20 coupon, then call the CS and ask to change the order to in-store pick up. That way the in store price will be after the $20 coupon and you can try to get the Lite-on version of this drive, if they have one.

As always YMMV

Sweet! I just got mine in today, and it says Lite-On right on the drive - no reference to Pac Digital. $50 for a 24x Lite-On is a pretty nice deal, I bet I can E-Bay my 12x TDK for that much

The software I got with this drive is NTI , Whatever that is. First try couldn/t get it towork with Direct CD ( not sure what version). Just got it in and need to play with it.
