I saw this infomation posted on another forum which might help if it's out of stock in your area.

( I could not get it through Omax.com, but they did show plenty in warehouse at the "catalog dept." I ordered one today at 5am, and it as well as the 50 pk, Memorex 80min CDs (8.99 after rebate) will be delivered to me this Tuesday. Call this dept. and try to get to the applicable california warehouse (i'm in Los Angeles).
Here's the number for catalog sales dept. (877) 633-4236
Here is the sku code # from O depot is 2007-6846 for drive... they have problems looking it up)

I though the deal ended at the end of Saturday, but the drive is still selling for $99.99, but the $30 rebate ends Thursday 1-31.So if you can find it in stock the final price is still $49.99.

Update : The price on the web site shows up as $99.99, but some people are saying that in the stores it shows up as $129. So YMMV

I just pm'ed OD with the receipt from Sam's Club (in Illinois) available on the forum during the first week of Jan. You know the one that everyone used to get Staples' price down. So let's see this deal ends up being:

$56.91 to start and the chick at the till added 15% "because of how Sam's club buys their products".
$65.45 ($56.91 X 1.15)
$04.09 sales tax
-$30.00 Mail in rebate

$39.54 Total AR

I'm going back in on Monday to try and apply a $15 off $40 or $50 whatever I can find. If it works then I'll be at $25 for the drive.

You guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

You might try their catalog sales dept. (877) 633-4236 I heard they had plenty in their warehouse, but the hard part might be getting them to let you use the $20 off $75 coupon.

Has anyone had that much luck finding the "burnproof" lite-on version? I haven't and I've been checking even staples in my area. Is the burnproof version an early release of the PD 24x and they got cheaper and oem'ed a different one?

Thanks

Remember, the Liteon is Smart-Burn and not Burnproof. So, if you see Smart-Burn, that should be an indication that it is a Liteon. Don't know what Mitsumi uses.

Both boxes have the Smart Burn sticker.....I got the Mitsumi and it uses Exactlink technology.....basically it stops writing when data transfer rate drops or CPU cycles to high.....resumes when back in range. I ran scandisk while burning and it worked as designed, it paused then resumed when I killed scandisk. CD came out fine.

I thought Smartburn was a trademark of Liteon (it is, and it's a registered mark as well). If so, I can't imagine they would appreciate PD putting that on Mitsumi drives. The Cendyne deal at OM had Smartburn on the Liteon boxes (on a sticker) and blank in that place for the Aopen and other models. Exactlink is definitely someone's trademark (don't know if its Mitsumi's), but it's not Liteon's. Again, I can't imagine the manufacturers would be thrilled with the whole incorect trademark labeling.

Zwingle - is yours a 24x12x40? That's the only 24x model I see at the Mitsumi site.

I picked up 2...one was the Liteon and the other a Mitsumi....both boxes were identical, down to the sticker.....The Mitsumi is the 24x12x40....CDRInfo post shows the drive with 16MB buffer....mine shows 2MB in Nero.....I have been using both and the Mitsumi seems to be more stable.....no coaster out of 100 +/- 10.....the Liteon has made 5 coasters out of about 50 burned. Could be the pc setup, not sure......I also noted that CDRInfo post said to enable DMA on the Mitsumi....first time I have seen that on any CDRW....mine is enabled per their instructions and works great.

HELP!!!

I tried purchasing this drive online at Office Depot's site using the $20 off $75 coupon(s) from the UltimateCoupons.com site. The coupon shows up in my cart along with the drive, but when I go to actually submit my order, Office Depot tells me that my coupon cannot be processed & I can't proceed until I remove it from my cart. This sucks!!!

Any help for a coupon newbie? I would be very grateful!

Thanks,
jawgee2k

Thanks Zwingle,

Oh ya, thats right, not burnproof. My box, says "new buffer underrun technology". I understood that this meant it was the Mitsumi. 16MB buffer, cool.

Glad to hear that the mitsumi is working well under stress. Hopefully mine performs well too.

Cool you got the faster rewrite speed. I was just curious. I don't burn CDRWs, but seems like a good deal if you can get it and use it.

10% coaster rate isn't good--wonder what the deal is. Since I got all my problems resolved, I've burned about 20 CDRs with the Liteon with no coasters (DMA enabled). Compared to the Plextor, the Liteon seems a lot more cheaply made though.

CDRInfo seems to get stuff early. I wonder if early on Mitsumi had that wacky thing where they used a Burnproofish sounding name (I think Yamaha did it), but just gave you a big buffer. They probably ended up switching to the better anti-coaster technology later.

jawgee2k,

that may mean that its expired, or maybe you've used that one already. I think staples.com "remembers" that kind of stuff.

You can try the $20 off $75 link I have (turn on your private messenger to receive a PM), if that does work call customer service and tell them you're having problems ordering and they will do it over the phone.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys - 'preciate it. I have turned on my PM (thought I did that when I registered) so MysticMan1 (or anyone else), if you could send me your coupon link, that would be very groovy. Like I mentioned before, I tried the 3 different coupon links from UltimateCoupons.com - 2 were refused by Office Depot & the other one (the middle link) did not work at all.

Drives were out of stock at local B&M OD's on Saturday. Store manager said they will have more on 1/29/02 and will honor coupon and sale price. not sure if they will get lite-on or mitsumi drives. Still trying to make this deal work. Great Forum!!!!

Thanks for the heads up. Had a friendly customer service mgr that honored the online price AND the $20 off $75 coupon, given the backorder status. With $30 rebate, I'm in at $54.79 incl tax.

Question...I have the box that states "New Buffer UnderRun Technology". I'm assuming that this means that I have the Mitsumi drive inside. Is it worth waiting for a few days to see if they get a "smartburn" labeled box for LiteON. I've read all the posts in this thread, so it seems that might not be a bad thing to have the Liteon for SD2. I checked the website provided by one person that described using the AWS function in CloneCD, but the exact Mitsumi model number was not listed on supported drives. Should I hold out for a liteon or keep the Mitsumi?

Thanks

What ripping speeds are you folks getting with this drive?

I''ve been using CDEX and technical consensus seems to indicate this may be one of the best (from web sites and OT forum discussion). Whether I rip at 256kbps or 96kbps it seems to take about the same time.

Has anyone tested this with the provided software? Does that make it faster? (I ask becuase I'm always catious about installing software that seems to torque the OS so I don't have to reburn the OS as frequently, keeping the system clean, you know)
