dead! Pacific digital(liteon/nec/btc) 8x dual DVD+-r/rw burner $20 after rebate OM BM today only!2-28

Had a busy Saturday night. Logged onto Anandtech, ant 6:15. Needed Milk, and ICE for HOLD Em Poker party. But there it was, OM DVD+- for 20 bucks... Took Grand Daughter to OM, and asked for a Pacific Digital, and bought one. Suprised to fin 149 - instant 80 off. Cool, Then the $50 rebate. Wow. Then I said, I think I need another one. Now I wonder if they will work in my Mac, even though I currently have a DVD-R that acts like Apples Superdrive.

Guess I will have to crack open the Pentium II, that is sitting next to the Mac, and see how it work there.

I went into that store earlier today, found the sales tag and took it to the register. Lady there immediately knew about the deal. Says someone came in yesterday (probably you) and bought it for $70 w/ $50 MIR. She also said it was a price mistake and they've since fixed it. Had her ring it up anyhow just to be sure, $150. Too bad I wasn't around yesterday, I maybe could have got one.

I got one today for $69 after rebate. It is in a Pacific Digital box serial # 4284###### and my system identifies it as a lite-on 811s whahoo......Very happy. At first there were only Khypermedia drives on the shelf. I asked one of the workers if they had any Pacific Digital. He said let me check and then came back with one.

why is everyone going for the lite-on? if i have no need for bit-setting. and will only be burning dvd+r, will the Khypermedia (cyberdrive)be just as good??

probably because cyberdrive cdrw always had mixed reviews in the cdrw forums.
don't know about now, but i do know if i had gotten in on it, would have chosen the lite-on or nec, as i have cdrw/dvd of those manuf and they are still working... benq is crazy though, i might have to get paid to put another benq in my machine...

from a read of the threads, the answer would be yes and you wouldn't have to be too particular as to media quality.

I either misread this or forgot to jump on this since I was up til 5AM Saturday morning and ended up sleeping 'til 1PM.

I get email from OM but don't recall seeing this.

How did everyone learn of this and the code other than here on AT?

It was a price mistake. Someone screwed up and changed the price on the dvd burner early but forgot to change the amount of the instant rebate.

I believe the mistake was posted on FW first.

Go to CD Freaks NEC forum and you'll see all kinds of people complaining about the 2500A. Very picky about media, poor firmware support, and reading errors.
