its the media..if its 4x most likely will only burn @4x,2x @2x, and so forth..

Just to add to the deals on the DVD writers O-Max is also offering 100 spindle of DVD+R 4x Ridata discs for 89.99 - $10 instant and $10 mail-in = $69.99 AR, these DVDs are great I bought a spindle today great disc and a damn good price as well. Here is the sku for them 20737909 it says on there website that they a 2.4 x disc but they are in fact 4x discs.

You need 8x media to burn at 8x or 4x media that's capable of burning at 8x.

Check this site for info on what 4x media brands the LiteOn 8x drive can burn at 8x.

Are any of these burners able to flashed to dual layer that we know of, other then the BenQ?

Dont think so...seems the benQ is the only one from the ones that office max is selling.

For the Khypermedia ones...if it says made in china it is the cyberdrive, if it says made in malaysia it is the benQ.

Speaking of which...I have a brand new khypermedia one for sale, no UPC, letting it for $70 shipped. I bought it and sent in the rebate and decided i dont want it (this is from a previous deal)

haven't dealt with a Cyberdrive(China) have dealt with 4 800As (Malaysia) ..both use the chip by Philips..I do prefer these as +R (w/ Booktyping) has been excellent on a diverse batch of settops..using RicohJPNR00/01 mostly..

The Khypermedia rebadged 8x BenQ single format (DW800A) drive is not upgradeable to dual layer burning, only the 8x/4x BenQ (DW822A) is upgradeable and Khypermedia does not currently sell a rebadged version of that drive.
