I dont know why you guys are having the driver issues.

I didn't install anything because win2k automatically detect this monitor as "FCT1904Z2".

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm not all that blown away by this...

I've used a Dell 1702FP and it was better and, the ultimate, I used that SGI 1600 wide screen one from a few years ago that was just awesome. This might be going back to Dell.

I'm running it at 1280x1024x32 and I have done autoadjust a few times. Yes, I'm using analog, but still...

Well, I can try it for 30 days, so I'll get a DVI video card and see, but from what I've heard it won't make that much of a difference.

Oh yeah, no dead pixels that (that I have noticed).

So who's going to be the first to open it up and see if it can be hacked into a CT1904N (s-video inputs)?

I installed Windows XP and activated cleartype as suggested.
The text is much better using XP than Windows 2000.
BTW:
Windows 2000 automatically detects the LCD monitor as FCT1904Z2 as render stated.
The function menus are different for analog and digital.
The analog menu is a superset of the digital menu.

I just got mine this morning, and it's beautiful! The sharpness and picture quality is at least as good as my 21" FD Trinitron. The color, however, is more vibrant and richer looking than my FD Trinitron.

My only gripe is it has 2 dead pixels. One red subpixel that operates in reverse (it's on bright red when the background is black, turns black when the background is white) and one green subpixel that's completely dead so the pixel looks red when the background is white. I tried the Q-tip pressure on the screen trick, and my skepticity was not unfounded - it didn't work.

Oh well. I can't get a replacement for 2 bad pixels, so I'm hoping they'll fix themselves.

I had an Viewsonic 15" LCD one year ago and I got problem for games that switch resolutions once in a while.

Try to start a new game of Diablo 2 and play it for a few hours every day until you finish the game. In the game when you jump from one act to another, the game switches resolution while it's loading another act. Then, eventually you will find out the LCD does not re-position the screen correctly.

This problem may or may not happen the first few days, but once you put more hours into the game, it will happen.

I tried this with 2 viewsonic LCD monitors and they both have the same problem.

I am a hyper-critical buyer, much like many here in the forums. Here's my subjectively objective review of this guy after 24 hours:

The color on this LCD monitor is not nearly as rich or accurate as my Compaq P720 CRT (or most fair-to-good CRTs I have used for that matter). The grey scale is not to the point where there is true black, meaning there is some washout that occurs in the colors, especially in a few (!) degrees off center. This alone is most frustrating. There *is* ghosting, much to my doubt before I bought this '25ms' panel. Apparently ghosting and response time have nothing to do with each other. It shows itself as a slight and faint shadow against all contrasting lines and colors --- very faint, but noticable when your eyes dart around a 2D screen, and noticable when moving text or windows or video onscreen. This may correct itself when I plug into the DVI connection on my Radeon AIW (while I am using the analog through my KVM right now --- something I forgot about before my purchase). Regarding the posted (and debatable) 25 ms response time, I also detect significant trailing as compared to CRTs. To the point where I fired up the RTCW FPS, moved around quickly while a character tried to shoot me, and I could not detect where the character was definitively, since there appeared some artifacting of the characters entire image as it flew by me. It really sucked. I am most disappointed. I saw one .pdf from Planar that said there was a 25ms 'rise' time on this guy, with no fall listed. I suspect this is the actual rating (as we all have discussed the many discrepancies in Planar/Dell documentation so far). Finally, I want to report that I perceive the size of this LCD as a little too big, as I would like smaller text to work with, maybe to where I would have 1600x1200 (although that's pretty tight) on a 19" LCD --- some indication that I should have been satisfied with my existing 17" CRT at 11somethingHundred x somethingOrOther (I forget, I'm drunk). But I tell you, I had to see this first-hand. Didn't we all?

So I'll probably keep it. I hardly ever do any gaming any more, but the allure of showing something off to newbies at my house still really intrigues me. I wish this was the catch-all/be-all LCD. It's not though. It was a good deal, and we all did good. But it's going to cause me to keep looking for a new monitor over the next few years.

I was looking for this review before I purchased but never found it. I hope it helps someone in the future.

First, those of you who took advantage of this deal got what appears to be an excellent LCD monitor. Now, for my rant:

Rant On
What's with all of the Ebay sellers getting $50 to $59 for shipping on this monitor? If I were to pay someone $59 to ship a 15 Lb. LCD monitor, they better ship it via "overnight" shipping to me.
Rant Off

Asiliant Technologies offers the Chips and Technologies family of Flat-Panel/CRT Graphics controllers for the embedded marketplace. They are best supported in an Pentium* processor/Windows* environment on a variety of buses: ISA, VL, PCI, and AGP. The controllers support a wide range of displays including CRT's, TV's, TFT panels, DSTN panels.
Those aren't the drivers you need. You don't really need any drivers - either it will be autodetected or it will be a Plug and Play monitor, it's no big deal either way as far as I can tell.

DOH! I ran that Nokia monitor test and discovered I have 4 dead pixels. I think that's enough dead pixels that Planar will replace it, but now I have to decide whether it's annoying enough to worth losing shipping $$$ on.
Think it's possible to have Dell replace it instead? I couldn't find their exchange policy on their site.

What do you mean,"lose money on shipping"? Planar sends you a new unit, you put the return unit in the box and slap on the prepaid shipping label. First, you should leave the monitor on for an extended time,to see if they turn on.

Hi all,

I can't seem to expand the display edge to edge (vertically). I thought this should be automatic??!! There's no setting on the digital to adjust this? Help... where do you find the auto adjust feature??

Ok, I found the problem. I was not running on the native 1280x1024 resolution. I accidently left at the 1280x768. This is a really nice LCD! I can't believe it's 0.29 dp. Just curious, someone has said dot pitch is not use the same way as crt's then why do they even need to mention it? Would 0.26 be much better than this LCD with 0.29?

Anyone compared this with 17" with 0.26 dp? Which is better?

My first impression:

Running with ATI AIW Radeon 32MB - Digital mode
1280x1024 - straight out of Win XP.

Web suring: Man, this thing kicks my old KDS 17" crt's ass. I still have get used to reading the whole news page at Yahoo where as scrolling up and down with 1024x768. Talk about a big difference in real state.
Text: Cleartype is very clear and easy on the eye. My first time using cleartype.
Game: I played Hitman I and there's no ghosting so far. This game has a lot of movement so I should have noticed easily. The graphic shows up a lot brighter than before especially the white colors. The hight contrast ratio really made a difference.

Glad I held off on the 17" LCDs, I think I like the 19" a lot more. Bump for nice a LCD!

If you're using the DVI cable, you're running it digital.

Check the specs or the box. The monitor itself is 21lbs. With all the packing, it's 29lbs (according to FedEx). Depending on how you ship, it can run up to $50 just to ship. But I agree. Charging $59 is a little extensive.

True. However, you can't tell me that every seller isn't going to shop for the most economical shipping. For me to send a 30 pound box which is insured at $550 between the East coast and the West coast, FedEx ground only wants $30 in charges. UPS, on the other hand, wants another $6.00 or $7.00 over the FedEx Ground price to cover the same distance.
