I just got this LCD and wow, the picture quality is really great, more than I expected.(upgraded from 19inch CRT)

The viewable size looks like 21inch CRT.

**No dead pixels for me

if you've got 3 or more, call Planar. I will tell you that they will first say to leave it on for 72 hours without a screensaver to see if any of them improve, and if not, they will give you another new one. I know because I just called them and that is what they told me. I have 3 of them in the bottom right hand corner of the monitor.

Compared to my Planar 18.1" this thing is a little thinner and runs a lot cooler. The 18" has the power supply built in, whereas this has an external power brick.

Also I notice the ghosting effect greatly diminishes after a little bit of warmup.

MUCH brighter than the 17.4" planar I upgraded from. I don't hink the display is as sharp, but size probably has something to do with that. It is a bit thicker than the 17.4" model I had, but does it really matter? Many have posted about this, and I can't see where it would matter. So what if it's an 1" or 2 thicker. I know we're buying flat panels, but I can't see where it makes any difference. I didn't think upgrading from 17.4" to 19" would be that noticable (I did it so my dad could have my 17.4 incher). I have to say it does make a difference. I can't wait to play a game or something on this thing to see about ghosting. It wasn't too bad on the 17.4" model, so I wouldn't expect much here either. I definately wouldn't use it for a gaming machine, but for internet surfing and general computer use with occasional gaming and movie watching....this thing is a HUGE improvement over any of the CRT's I would consider. If you missed out...I feel for you. You shoulda dove in. I had to pay tax, but $702 is a bargain for a monitor like this considering I paid $700 for a hitachi 19" CRT (18" viewable) a few years back that sucks compared to this. Aren't technological breakthroughs grand? You guys in R&D....keep 'em coming. I'm sure I'll upgrade again.

I'm using a Radeon 8500 with the DVI interface.
Resolution set to 1280X1024@60Hz
No dead pixels.
Text is definitely jagged for diagonal letters, like the "W", definitely inferior to an analog monitor at same resolution!
Can't set the refresh rate to 75Hz in digital mode but can in analog mode.
Spec states 75Hz refresh rate in both analog and digital.
Refresh rate doesn't seem to be important for an LCD, I would not be able to use an analog monitor at 60Hz.
The vertical alignment using: http://www.monitorsdirect.com/toolkit/index.shtml is a little off and I didn't find an adjustment to correct this misalignment. Does anyone know if this can be corrected?

TIA,

TIA,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but:
Refresh rate doesn't matter because LCDs don't refresh.
Alignment doesn't matter because, well, there's nothing (no rgb guns?) to align. Perhaps if you try the DVI connection, the signal will be cleaner.
Seems jagged cuz it's clearer?

A question for you guys who already received yours (mine's still in transport... grr...).

Can this monitor hook up 2 systems? One using RGB & one using DVI, much like those CRT monitors with RGB & BNC connectors...

As far as I can tell yes it can. The monitor has both VGA & DVI connections and in the OSD you can select which port you want to use. If I had my memory for my other system, I'd be able to give a definite answer.

Absolutely. You change between computers with the function <Monitor Control>
I'm using my Planar in this manner. I use a KVM switch for the mouse and keyboard.

Ditto

This is the first LCD I bought (actually, this is my girlfriend's, not mine...I got the 19" dell/samsung), and I must admit it's a whole lot easier on the eyes than the 24" CRT I've been using for the past year+.

people at work keep asking what the dot pitch is on it & when I tell them .294 they seem to smirk like something's wrong with it.

is that a bad dot pitch? does it really matter?

all I know is that it looks a heck of a lot better than my old pos compaq 17" crt

From my understanding of it, dot pitch with CRT's isn't that important. My monitor before this Planar was a NEC MultiSync FE700. It has a .25 dot pitch. This Planar is just as sharp as the NEC.

I guess the deal is dead now. Of course it's not like I really needed to get a 19" LCD monitor.

OK those of you who complain about jagged letters, do you have cleartype turned on. If not you might want to click this link here. Follow the link and it will not only turn on cleartype but will also fine tune it to your liking.

Monitor arrived this afternoon (much to my surprise - I hadn't realized I already had a tracking number until today!)

It's BIG - wow.... soooo nice Now I can't wait to upgrade to XP to check out ClearType! Even in 2k (running 1280x1024 @ 75hz analog on ATI 7200), the display is nice & crisp & bright! I briefly checked some gaming - I didn't notice much ghosting; there was some image-tearing in JK2 but I had v-sync off. I'm assuming turning that back on will fix the tearing.

I played the lobby scene from Matrix and everything looked excellent! It didn't seem *quite* as fluid as my CRT, but definintely watchable.

Bottom line - well worth it! No regrets here!

I have gotten 2 of these babies today. They are gorgeous and amazing!!! Pardon my overexcitement, but I just can't help it, considering what I paid and what I got.
On the subject of fuzziness or edginess of some text etc., when I changed the refresh from 60 to 75 (it set itself to 60 when I changed to 1280x1024) the text did become kinda fuzzy, so I went into function on the monitor and applied the very first one - "Auto Adjust". It did everything perfectly. It fixed the picture quality, maximized the vert. and horiz. sizes as well as the position and geometry! Amazing stuff! But in case this does not work for you, inside the manual adjustment section, there is a feature "Phase". You should decrease it the point where the image or text degrades to the point where it trembles and there is somewhat of a sparkling around the edges, note the value at which it happens. Then increase the Phase value until the same effect happens on the other side of the scale, note that number. Then calculate the median value of the two and set Phase to that value. Hope it helps. This method is courtesy of Planar.
Thank you guys again for such a deal!

first of all the driver on cd is in the folder Win2kXP, not Win2k. But these are not the drivers for this monitor anyway, the are fot touch screen. This monitor does not have drivers! Don't ask why, it just does not. Not only on CD, but also on their site or anywhere else for that matter. I guess, you just have to set it to Plug-n-Play monitor which will allow for 1280x1024 with 75Hz
