(DEAD) Polaroid 24x10x40 "USB 2.0 external" CD-RW $104.99 after $30 MIR & $25 coupon at officeMax (starts Sun. 4-14)

It look like the Polaroid 24x10x40 external CD-RW will not be sold on-line, but in-stores only.

What you can do is print-out the $25 off $100 coupon page, then take that to your local store and tell one of those friendly OfficeMax managers that you were going to buy the drive on-line, but couldn't find it on the site, so would he honor the $25 coupon, so you can purchase the drive from him. This has worked many time before, for a number of poeple, but it up the to manager to decide to honor the $25 on-line coupon or not.

Here's another idea I heard about. Use the staples $30 off $150 printable coupon at OfficeMax stores (they are support to take them) to buy the Polaroid 24x drive and save a extra $5 off price.

This Polaroid 24x external drive may mfg by BTC or Lite-on, to identify which mfg drive is in the box look for the words "Smart-burn" on the box for the Lite-on mfg drive and the words "MTK Superlink" for the BTC drive, which is not a very good drive.

If the Polaroid 24x is a rebadged 24x lite-on (LXR-24101A) external drive with "Smart-burn", then you can see the specifcations here:

The add says "Smart Burn"....maybe these are the so called Lite-On drives that weren't and then returned only to be brought back as external drives? I know that wouldn't happen, but it would be hilarious if these turned out to be those MTK Superlink drives and OM gets hundreds of returns after hundreds of orders with coupons. I'm chuckling just thinking of all the headaches those managers went through because of the false advertising before with the "Smart-Burn" drives. After 3 phone calls with managers plus 5 visits to the B&M stores I ended up with two 24x Cendyne Lite-On drives for $70 total after rebates and coupons. Glad it was such a deal and on my way each time except for the final visit.

Here we go again?

Then why not use staples 30 off 150 coupon?
It's still alive

From what the picture of the drive on the Lite-on specs web page looks like I would have to say there's no way to do that, but the design of the drive looks really cool.

I have already checked the BTC web site and they don't sell any type of external CD-RW drive, but on Lite-on's web site I did find a 24x10x40 USB 2.0 external drive, so there is a very good chance that this Polaroid 24x external drive is a rebadged Lite-on, of course the words "Smart Burn" on the box will be the real key to what's inside the box.

MysticMan, thanks for the link..

I drove over to my local OM (East Brunswick, NJ) and had what is probably my worst experience in a retail store...
First, I ask them if they have the drive (they do), then ask the employee if they take competitors coupons (staples $30 off $150). He says yeah, asks someone else who says the total has to be over $150 *AFTER* the rebate, who asks someone else who says they NEVER take competitors coupons. I argued for a second saying it said they do on their website and she ignores me and walks off, so the guy asks some other lady who agrees with the second guy who says it has to be over $150 after rebates....

So I buy some crap, and go to the counter...they brought out the wrong drive. I told them that, so the second person in my story went to the back and brought out the external one (box all torn up, clearly a return). They refused to sell me a new one because I was using a coupon (again, ridiculous). THEN after I pay, the cashier takes the bag with the drive and CD-R's and THROWS it on the floor.

Needless to say I was pretty pissed after all that...however since even their upper-management at the store seemed to have a few bolts loose I decided there was nothing I could do (figured i'd just buy online and return the crap they gave me). Anyone know where I could file a complaint at?

And by the way, mine seems to be a BCE drive (BCE 2410UE on the bottom of the external case)

I hate to add more bad news to a already bad experience, but the BTC mfg drive are not very good drives. people how bought the internal BTC mfg Polaroid 24x10x40 drives didn't have anything good to say about the drive. You can read their comments here : LINK

The Lite-on drive would have "Smart-burn on the outside of the box and the BTC mfg drive would say "MTK Superlink" on the box.

I would check OfficeMax's web for where you can send a complaint, I hope you got a jerk manager's name.

I heard that you can in fact take out the Polaroid drive and put in another drive or even a hard drive, that might be worth $105 by it's self. What is a portable UBS 2.0 enclosure selling for these day? Maybe even ebay the Polaroid drive to get some money back.

at $66 shipped that enclosure would be a better deal than buying the drive, ebaying the cdrw and waiting on a rebate (it'd be a few bucks more but if you factor tax, ebay fees, even paypal fees it gets pretty close to that price)...

unfortunately it struck me that my a03 wouldn't fit in it as I remember reading somewhere that it's slightly longer than typical drives (the a04 however is "normal" in length).

I did open it up, and yeah, you can swap it with whatever you want...BUT the back of the case (where the usb/power/etc connectors are) is connected directly to the drive itself (unlike most other cases i've seen where there is maybe a 1" or 2" ide cable heading to the drive). So if the drive your replacing it with doesn't have the exact same design in the back (length between audio, ide, power inputs exactly the same distance away as the initial drive) it doesn't look like it would work..I for one was considering keeping it and ebaying the drive, but I decided against it.
