After failing with the WesternDigital 80gb/BestBuy deal, I just got in on this incredible one. Total came to $81.49 with tax ($51.49 after rebate) - to be received on 3/12/02. My BestBuy experience in short. Chose In-Store pickup (shown to be available for my store), and almost a day goes by and still no email with confirmation number. Then seeing how the site I was going to PM (AMEX) with pulled the drive, I called BestBuy (told them I never received any confirmation number/email) and cancelled the order. As soon as I hung up, I received this email (which naturally stated it was out-of-stock at my store). I then received a second email confirming my cancellation of the order. This is definitely THE last time I do ANY online business with BestBuy. Sorry for the length of this story, but at least there's a happy ending (Polaroid CDRW deal).

Will this drive show up as a Lite-On or will it have different firmware? Will it be flashable with Lite-On firmware? Also, if someone who gets the drive can post any testing of SF2 "backups" using CloneCD I would be interested in hearing about it.

Thanks for the update MysticMan, about the drive not been in their on-line catalog for this sale. I was concerned this was the case. Ordinarily it is a very wise idea to shy away from merchandise that a vendor brings in special for a "sale." It is usually far cheaper quality than usually sold by that vendor. This is nearly universally true in clothing sales.

That said, the LiteOn 24x is a fine CDRW-I put one in my daughter's computer. I'm not worried about the rebate too much (I doubt OfficeMax will stand behind it-read their rebate coupon pamphlet next time you get one) but becuase the bankruptcy court rules will guarantee "gap" creditors (those post-Chapter 11 filing but pre-Chapter 7 liquidation conversion) payment even if the Polaroid reorganization goes belly up. I wouldn't put much faith in a warranty from Polaroid, but hey its a $45 CDRW. When their website comes up I will probably grab one to replace my dying 8x Plextor.

I found the data sheet for the drive here in reading this it says that the CDR disk capacity is only 650 MB. Does this indicate that you cannot use 700MB cdr's in this drive? Anyone ever heard of Diskfusiontech? I would love to get my hands on one of these if it is indeed a Lite On.

It is a rebadged LiteOn 24x10x40 (LTR-24102B). It will write 700 MB cds. Read Storagereview.com's review at the top of this thread. It is a great drive.

I got in on the Cendyne 24x10x40 deal a couple weeks ago (same rebaged LiteOn drive) for the same price. I haven't had one problem with it. I HIGHLY recommend this drive.

YOU GUYS ARE JUST DENSE.

First its $30 off a purchase of $100 or more. So at the very least you need to purchase a 2nd item since $99.95 is NOT $100. Good luck ignoring that.

2nd. Today is the expiration date for the coupon. If it were THRU today, it would stil be good, but since it expires today, its NOT good.

I am still buying this, but saying its $50, well, yall let me know what price you get.

I fill in the order and usually there is a box to put your coupon code in...I don't see the box to put that code in. HELP!

edit..got it..I had to use IE to do the order...for some reason Netscape wouldn't work.

I had that problem also. Got around it by adding the paperclips with the drive
then hit checkout. The code box came up when the total went over $100.
