Just got back from my bestbuy.. i was going to pricematch the CC price ne wayz the chance of getting 40dolla rebate gave me the effort to get off my ass and go. I went the register and paid for it and i saw the receipt being printed out and i saw the rebate with it and i was like cool i get the rebate... Then she was like "Hmmm, it seems like the price was already 49.99" .. then she went to talk to a manger, i was like DAMn im not getting the rebate, then she came back and stapled the papers together with the rebate and everything was all gravy.

Hi,

I just purchased the WD 40GB hard drive at Best Buy for $60. They also printed out the mir form; this is a Best Buy rebate, not a manufacturer rebate. A 40GB hd for $20 is a great deal.

I had to go 2 Best Buy stores. The first one in Rockville, MD refused to print the rebate form claiming that they will not do a combined pm and mir. The second one in Gaithersburg, MD did not balk.

2. Go the the customer service counter. DO NOT show the rebate receipt and the rebate form. Just give them the CC ad and the receipt and ask for a PM

overall:
$99.99
- 44.00 (110%)
----------
$55.99 + tax - $40 MIR = $20.61

edit: my bad......got too exciting while typing this!

I decided this was a good enough deal, that I went and did it too. I bought the drive. Went and made a phone call. Then walked back to the CS desk and got the 110% credited back to my card. The last time that I mentioned above, I did it at the register and only got 100% b/c I did it at purchase. So if you want that extra 10%, go back later.

Just got back from Best Buy...

No dice for me

The manager told me that they would "price match" to $80, but thats it. I asked him how that is price matching when CC sells for $60. He told me it just was. That meant that after rebate I pay $40.

I almost bought it but I dont like to rely on a rebate to make the deal worthwhile...

In reality bestbuy is not supposed to pricematch after the final rebate price, so they should not be going under $59.99 after rebate.

Where is the fineprint that Best Buy has, to back up their claim? There is nothing printed on their receipts, nor on their pricematch guarantee, that limits a pricematch. You should be able to also get 10% off, and get the $40 rebate afterwards. Don't let them give you the run around. I always tell the manager/clerk in a stern voice..... "You see that pricematch guarantee that's written up there on the wall? It says I get 10% off, too. The customer is always right, right?"

This one is tough. First BestBuy I went to, everything was going well, I paid for one drive, the guy printed the receipt and rebate forms. 2nd drive, he screwed up printing the receipt and had to have the manager come over, he didn't like the deal I was getting, so he voided everything out even though I already had paid... and refunded everything. Technically, I owned the drive at that point, I could have left, but he was quick in snatching everything up.

2nd store, took my rebate buddy with me, they did not want to pricematch Circuit City's price because I printed the price off their website and they won't pricematch Internet sites. I told them this was their advertised price this week for in their store, so the guy calls Circuit City, dumb sales guy at Circuit City says it's $79.99 with $20 rebate for $59.99, so Bestbuy manager tells me he can only pricematch to $79.99. I tell him no, this was not a rebate price at Circuit City (it's not), so I had him call them back AGAIN. He's then told the $59.99 is the weekly ad price (like I told him the first time). So, then I tried to get the 10% difference as well, but he wouldn't do it. He said I'd have to buy the product first at full price, then bring it back with the Circuit City ad because that's their 10% difference policy.

So, here's what you need to do to get the lowest price with the least amount of pain:

1. Get a copy of the instore Circuity City ad from your Sunday paper or at your local Circuit City store.

2. Buy the drive at $99.99 (Bestbuy's sale price) at BestBuy.

3. Come back later, without the rebate portion of the sales slip to avoid any hassles, and get the pricematch + 10% difference.

That's what my rebate buddy did, I settled for the $59.99 price so I could get out of there quickly, but you'll get $4 more dollars off plus a chunk of sales tax refunded as well if you are willing to come back later. It's also a lot easier than having to haggle with them unless you are lucky enough to get a sales clerk who either doesn't care or doesn't know. This deal is not illegal or anything like that, they just often won't like to honor their policies when they know you are getting a heck of a deal, and they'll try to put up a pretty good front to keep you from buying it. Even if they won't refund the difference at that point, you can just return the drive for a full refund if you haven't opened it within 14 days... rebate form does not say this cannot be combined with any other offers. So there should be no risk here.

And for all you whiners out there, you can go pay full price if you want to!

If you've got the time and willingness to make them stick to their advertised policies, then you can land yourself a 40GB drive for $18.20 after rebate (that was the price with tax after rebate in my area so it may vary a few dollars in your area).

Get yourself a rebate buddy so you can send one rebate to him and one to you if you are looking to get 2 drives so you can mirror them like I plan on doing. 1 rebate per household.

Circuity City price is good through 10/5/02, so you have to move on this one soon!

You people are letting yourselves get stepped on by the managers. It's your customer rights to get a fair pricematch on any product, that another competitior has in-stock. I'm tired of always seeing people get the run around from BB. Either they offer 110% guarantee to us customers, or BB needs to do away with it, if they can't keep up with their company's promise. I would go back, if I were you and try again.

i did this today as well. made the mistake of going upfront for PM. CSR didnt want to pm cause CC didnt have them in stock locally. so i was like, well i dont want to have to get someone in a diff city to buy it for me just cause they're out of stock here. she got antsy and called her manager-guy. she started to explain to him and then he was just like give them the pricematch, and walked off (must have been busy). Then, as the rebate reciept printed, she got this "wtf" look on her face, and asked another manager and he seemed to not want to deal with an irate-pirate. so end story, i hope the rebate doesnt mind a reciept that says 59.99, 99.99 with pricematch

/me looks at message
if you can make that out in regular english, let me know, and i'll give you a prize

Does it bother anyone that you are committing deception to get this deal? You realize that you are taking advantage of the pricematching policy in a way that it wasn't intended, right? If stores ever wise up and discontinue their price-matching policies altogether, guess who's fault that is? Because you are abusing the policy, one day it won't be available to any of us for legitimate price-matching.

I see so many of these deals lately where people are abusing price-matching policies. Are you guys that hard-up for deals? Do you have no conscience?

Perfectly legal. We are folllowing their own policies and they are the ones causing the grief. Circuity City is a legit Best Buy competitor, and if Best Buy can't compete, then tough luck for them. If they don't want to honor their policies and prices, they shouldn't advertise them. The only deception going on here is Best Buy likes to look good to their customers by creating these policies, but when it's time for them to follow through on their promises, they lay on the pressure and try to talk you out of it and try to make you feel guilty. There is nothing wrong with making them stick to their own word/advertising/policies. Besides, I figure corporate america kind of owes us for the last few years of stock scandals... but it's going to take quite a few hard drives to make up for that...

Scoreadeal, I feel for you after reading your previous post. LOL. I usually have bestbuy guys give me the bs like that. I went today though and everything was fine, I was in and out in like 5 mins. I think you made a mistake of going to the counter to get rebate afterword. Its easier to just pricematch at the counter as your buying it, because the guys are the register are usually kids and clueless. Of course if you do it that way you wont get your 10% off, but I dont really care, it was only $5 in this case difference.

yep, you have to be firm with the employees, let them know that you aren't going to leave until they pricematch it. After a while they will eventually grow tired of the discussion and have to give in. That's why I like to go in around lunch time, the workers have a reason to leave. They may tell you things like they can't price match it. but just don't get walked over. Believe me I've ran into some epic battles.. like me vs 2 compusa managers and a customer service rep and won.. just don't give in

No way man. It was super easy going to the counter and getting the rebate afterward. just do what Tchen811 suggested. Buy the drive. then later go and take the ad and the receipt, minus the rebate receipt, and you'll be fine. Which is what I did. When I did it at the register for the 80, the manager came over and had to approve the pricematch

To those who sucessed in buying the drive PM to $59,

What recourse do you (or me) have if the rebate center won't honor the rebate request? Do you then have to go back to BB and complain?

Thanks

BTW, is this a in-store only special? I don't see in the local Sunday circular. Only a 60G Maxtor for $69 after 2 MIRs.

Major road hazard with this deal!!!

Ok, I went to CC and OM first to get their circulars (I was gonna go for the Logitech z340 speakers as well). CC circular for 40GB WD HD is 59.99. I went to BB to pick up the HD for 99.99 with a 40.00 MIR. Went out to my van, dropped off the HD and my rebate receipts and forms. Went back in to CS at BB to PM the HD to CC price, CSR took the receipt, punched a few things on her keypad and then said she can't give me the PM. I said why? She said that there is a 40.00 and 30.00 MIR for the HD. I was like what? That didn't come up at the register (I knew the 40.00 one had, but the 30.00 one did not come up at the register). She handed me the two slips (I told her that I didn't get any rebate forms/slips at the register) and said that after MIRs the BB price is only 29.99 so she can't PM. Anyone else run into this same situation yet? I just got back from BB this morning (tried the entire deal from around 10:30 am to 11:00 am) so could this just be something that they initiated today to maybe fight all the ATers and FWers trying to get a 19.99 40GB HD? I told the CSR that she could just keep the 40.00 MIR if I could get the 40.00 PM instead since they would end up at the same price (knowing that I still had another copy of the 40.00 MIR in my van ... which could possibly mean that 99.99 - 40.00 PM - 40.00 MIR - 30.00 MIR = -10.01 (mmm, I love possibly getting payed to buy stuff, lol)) and it would just save me the hassle of the MIR that I said I normally never see in the mail anyhow. She said no. Fook that.

Does anyone know if you can call BB back to PM? I want to try later on tonight, but I don't want to drive all the way back there tonight. I will be back in the area tomorrow though, so if nothing pans out I'm gonna try the store again at a different time to see if I can get a different person. Also, anyone else get this shiate from BB? Hiding the 30.00 MIR at the register but then using it to stab you in the back when you try to PM at CS? 29.99 ain't too bad for a 40GB HD, but I don't want to rely on the MIR to get a decent price (since right now I'm paying 99.99 for a 59.99 drive - from OM and many many other online resellers/retailers).

Edit: Oh yeh, I forgot to mention that both the 40.00 and 30.00 MIR require the original UPC, so I asked the CSR how that was supposed to work and tried to use that as an argument that I should just get the PM and only use one MIR, but all she said was "Here is a number, call it and see how they want you to work it." I will call them a little bit later. Hopefully they say you can only use 1 rebate, that way I can get the PM. Then, if I'm possibly lucky, I can work it so that I don't have to use the original UPC for one of em and get them both anyhow . Hmmm, that's being greedy maybe, but I at least want the drive for 19.99.

Second Edit: I just figured out the 30.00 MIR thing. I was looking at the rebate forms and noticed the rebate good through date that I forgot to glance at before. The 30.00 MIR ended on 9/21 but the CSR just printed it up anyways in order to deny my PM, that's pretty low. Gotta love the BB BS, gonna go call/go back later to PM (And possibly get some other compensation since they tried to pull a fast one on me?).

I just returned from BestBuy at PCH and Hawthorne blvd. in Torrace CA.The manager looked at the CC circular and told me that he could either
PM the CC price or give me the MIR rebate form, but not both.

I just got in on the deal and had no problems. What I did was I went to cc and got the ad and asked if they had the drive in stock, they didn't have it in stock but another cc nearby did. I went to bb right after and grabbed a hd went to the cs counter and told them I wanted to pricematch to cc and gave them the ad. They called cc confirmed that it was in stock and at the sale price then they did the pricematch. I did not get the 110 pm, but I didn't really care. The lady even said it was a good deal. I bought it right at the cs counter and they didn't seem to care that it was 59.99 - 40 rebate.

Went to the BB in Rego Park, NYC and bought the drive full price. Put the drive in my car and went back to CS desk to do a PM with full price receipt and ad from CC. Everything was going smooth, filled out the paperwork, but then something must have popped up on the CSR computer screen. At the last second she said I cant PM because of the $40 MIR. She said if I gave her the MIR forms she could give me the PM. I told her I never got the MIR form. She said then no PM, and called for a manager to void it out of the system. Is BB going to post the $40 MIR form on their website? I see that they still have the old $30 MIR form posted but it's expired.

Edit: Went back today to the same BB. Different CSR, no problem this time. She gladly PM'ed 110%, credited my visa and said "have a nice day..." I guess it all depends on who is behind the counter... Neither CSR called CC to check if it was in stock.

I guess I got lucky. Bought at BB first, went back next day with non-rebate receipt. CSR refuses to honor printout from CC web site, saying no PM against CC's online store. Ask her to call local store and verify price and stock. She says: "We don't have the number." I ask if they have a phone book. She laughs and nearby CSR's laugh too. Pull out the cell phone, get CC phone number, call CC, talk to CC sales person and verify. CSR refuses to talk to CC on my cell. Give CSR number for CC, she calls CC, verifies and does the PM. I get no flack about rebate.

EYMAR - Nice Catch - thank you

MORPH - Get A Life. There is nothing fraudulent in the least about this deal. The BB Price Match policy I read today on the wall behind customer service said nothing about rebates. Staples price match policy does. BB could do that if they want to. One could argue that BB is committing more fraud here than anyone. They create the false impression in consumers that their prices can't be beat with a price match guarantee and then they do their level best not to honor it. I was lucky on this one - I got the PM and all I had to endure was some sneering and some really crappy attitude. Others got worse. Its very simple. Either have a price match policy or don't. If you do, live up to it.
