DEAL GET EVEN HOTTER

Some of the drive are the Special Edition ones, I got 2 of them ( out of 4 I bought )

To identified your drive being the 8 MB one look for the WDC serial number on the bottom of the drive :
--- WCADxxxxxxxx for the 8 MB cache
--- WMADxxxxxxxx for the 2 MB ones

In addition to verify , you'll see a pink slip when you open the drive , it will says added bonus
The drive I got also have 400 JB for the model number ( on the actual drive ) --> verified with westerndigital.com it is the 8 MB ones

So go grab yours now
40 Gigs 8 MB cache for $ 15 can't be wrong

cheers

stopped by a BB and boy what an experience again!
This BB was in Culver City / LA.
It was about 8:45 PM and there was only ONE cashier open. A long line had formed already but nobody seemes to care
(they were all local people).

At several cashiers blueshirted BB employees wer hanging around, chitchatting and not doing anything else!

And our line did not move at all as there were some people arguing at the register.

I finally walked up to one of the groups and they turned their back to me as I was apporaching! I said "excuse me" and
asked them why only one cashier is open.

They mumbeled about closing and I asked for the manager.

One of them reluctantly said he is "gone for the day".

Suddenly a black-shirt guy walked up and ordered them to open the registers immediately.

I asked him if he is the manager and he said yes and I told him what that girl told me after I asked to see him.

He looked soo frustrated and I asked him about the attitude of his coworkers and he said he is just one person and he
cannot change things.
He was white.

hnsn82,
I looked at my box's serial sticker and I've got the 8 MB cache too !!! Sweet !! I do have one question though, are the drives noisier than normal to you? I think I got a bad one. It sounds like a 15,000 RPM SCSI drive..... this might not be my lucky day after all...

Looks like it's still luck of the draw. The second drive I have, I just opened looks like the 2MB version. Doesn't have the model 400 JB on HD like the first one I opened. Oh, well.

eymar :
well you can still exchange it for the one with the 8 MB.
or if you cut the UPC already, you can always buy one more from bestbuy ( the SE one ) and repackaged the 2 MB one for refund ( )

WAAAAAHOOOOOO !!!!

Got to said "Hot Deals" is just too cool - thanks to all especially Eymar !

Just picked up WCAD.... 2 BB yesterday for $99.99

Priced matched today: brought it down to $45.98 (Got no problem at BB - clerk just said with a smile - great deal).

Rebate of $40 brings it down to grand total $5.98 for a 40 gig 7200 rpm 8mb drive (of course, I mail rebate return reciept - will cost an extra buck or two - but worth it).

Wish I had multiple addresses, could use a few more at this price.

well, thanks to everyone - keep em comming !

From what I know, you can only get it at the register at the time of purchase. =[

Yeah i got lucky. I didn't have $100 of cash on me so I just went straight for a pricematch before buying it. Luckily i got the rebate and pm, the csr just gave me the rebate saying that the rebate company probably would not send me the check. But that's ok with me, I did get my $65 pny rebate to go through when i bought the ram for $48! Thanks for the deal info. I tried to get the logitech z-340s, too bad all 4 office maxs' in my area were sold out! damn. The box says it is 2mb buffer, but from hearing what u said, u don't know until u open it.

not any more!! Thanks for this wonderful deal. A perfect price for my g'friend's future system - it has just added to my proof on how a PC build is tons cheaper than her old aging expensive mac (don't get me started!! )

I bought at the Manassas store Friday and she called Circuit City and wouldn't pm because they were OOS. So, I went back Saturday and got a different person who didn't even bother calling. Just gave me the pm and let me on my merry way. All of this of course was after the WCAD / WMAD issue (I bought a WMAD), so I stopped at the Sterling store on my way home around 7pm-ish to do an exchange, and lo - no drives in stock at all.

Since we have plenty of time to send in the rebate, can I just wait and try to exchange when they get them back in stock? What are the rules on exchanging the drive, and how have you guys dealt with doing that? Since its "the exact same thing" I can't imagine a CSR being too happy about it...

Scored two 8MB edition (WCAD13xxxxx) at East Palo Alto, CA, then went to Milpitas, CA to do the pricematch. They all know about the PM, and claimed that they wouldn't PM unless I forfeit the UPC code from the box. I didn't have the box with me, so I said what don't I just give them back the rebate form, they said no since you can get a rebate form again from any cashiers.

And the supervisor saids that's what they have been ordered to do,
tried to ask them to call East Palo Alto to see what they would do and they claim that East Palo Alto store will do the same thing.

Since I didn't have the box with me, they offered to write a note on the receipt and give me an extension to bring the UPC back. So, I am debating now if this is still a good deal since I got 2 8mb version. Does anybody think it's still a good deal at @ 60 dollars + tax.

I currently have two 40gb Seagate Barracada IV raided with an iwill raid100 controller, for some reason, I couldn't get the HD to work in ATA100 mode with the Iwill card. So, I am debating to use these 2 8mb WD drive as a replacement to gain more speed and sell my two seagate. Would I see much speed difference? (I do a lot of big file transfers, editing, encoding...). Or should I get the Maxtor Atlas 10k-III 18gb advertised for 89 dollars @ Fry's? I am concern of speed, but if the Maxtor is not much faster than a IDE raid, then I guess I will get the bigger drive. Any advise?

I got 5 more drives PM-ed today , which total to 8 drives ..
5 of them are the 8MB cache one ..

There's an addition parameter to the serial number that I mentioned before :
WCAD135xxxxx is the 8MB ones
WCAD12xxxxxx is the WCAD in disguised

I know the deals is over today , just keep those number as references for future deals maybe..

cheers
