Dead Power Supply or Motherboard?

My friends system suddenly will not turn on. THe system never even begins to boot, no fans spin or anything. I'm thinking the power supply may be dead, but the green power light on the motherboard still lights up suggesting there is still at least some power going to the motherboard. Could the power supply be bad if the green led on the motherboard still lights up, or is it likely a problem with the motherboard? Thanks, Rob

I am having exactly the same issue. The computer was working fine until two days ago. The green light of the mother board is there but when I press the "ON" button nothing happens, the fans dont spin, the computer makes no noise. Its just dead. Ive disconnected everything, recconected everything and nothing. I have come to the conclusion that it could be 3 things:

1-Its a motherboard issue(but could it be when the green light is there ?)
2-Its a power supply issue (but I have the same question you had, if it is indeed a powersupply issue, can it still give enough energy that the green light in the mother board, works ?
3-Its the contact directly connected to the "ON" button. maybe when Im pressing the on button it is not touching the contact enough to send electricity (or something like this)

I hope someone would be able to give us more advice to us in with this problem.

My case is an antec, 450 v, one of the most recent models, cant remember the name right now, but it is a small one, not the big serices. Procesr I have a dual core 3200+ 64 (athlon), I have two gigs of ram (corsair), and a asus 7900 gt sli.

Same exact problem here, I'm using the Antec Neo HE 500w power supply and due to a blackout this morning my computer shut off. When the power came back on I tried turn the system on but no go. I see the lights on my motherboard lit up but when I click the start button nothing happens.

Could this be a dead power supply or what?

I remember I fixed a computer that had this issue by plugging in the p4 cable (4 pin). Apparently it was loose and the cpu could not initiate, but the mobo could spin up.
In your guys' decriptions, it might be hardware damage

uhh there's 2 pins you can short together on the 20/24pin connector to "jumpstart" the power supply. Look it up. Don't worry, they're signaling pins, won't give you a new hairstyle.
