Of course now that over millions of us anandtech members had already bought our notebook PC. We also once in a blue moon look on at our Mac counter parts.

And I was surprise, would say pleasantly surprise, that the just updated(today) new Powerbook have a Radeon9000 graphic card in it. Whats more the tiny machine have hit the milestone of ONE GIGAHERZT. OMGoodness, this in incredible isnt it? ONE GIGAHERZT and 256Lcache and 1 MB of lvl3 cache.

Also configurable is a SUPER DRIVE in a notebook that is 1inch thick and only 5.4 pound.

The only thing I am not clear about is whether the screen is XGA, SXGA or ultra sharp????
And no USB2.0. Otherwise this thing is a beast. Would beat any of those PentiumIII notebook out there.

Link to your next MUST have notebook

But do note that the price right now seems to be pretty hot as you can get 1GB of ram, a 1GHz G4 processor, SUPERDRIVE, 15.2inch screen, Radeon 9000, included airport card, 40 GB hard drive Gigabyte ethernet and the cute Apple form factor(1inch) for a LOW 2939 dollars.

Hot in my book. Hotter Now LOOK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FIRST POST.

Would someone please do a configuration at dell with a similar spec except for the processor and see how the price match up.

I just reconfigured using an account with a Local university that I am affiliated to, and I got this

1GB memory
1GHZ G4
1 Gigabyte ethernet
40GB ultra ata drive
combo drive
Airport card
MacOSX(Jaguar)
Radeon 9000
15.2inch screen

FOR 2577 only.

If you need a superdrive its another 188.
Which comes up to 2765( a saving of 174)

Also if you buy if your Amex or discover, then its another 1.5% off or 1% off.

I think you gotta add tax for all the states

BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB

Correction its actually like this

Triple 1 = 1 gigaherzt G$, 1 GB sdram and 1 gigabit ethernet)

And standard radeon9000 64mb dedicated memory, airport card, titanium shell, 56k modem, 2 usb1.0, 1 firewire and the rest of the bells and whistles)

Regular price = 2939(with 40GB drive, superdrive and triple 1)

University price = 2765(with40gb drive, superdrive)

ADC price = 2379 (with 60GB drive and superdrive and tripple 1) Need too add 99 bucks for membership

Therefore the sweetess deal is 2478 plus tax and free shipping,(minus discover, or your various warranty/purchase protection benefit)

For students who are enrolled in any kind of Mac developer courses

10-20% discount PLEASE read the condition and navigate the site for more information

Thanks to him, legitimate students can buy apples at a lower price.

Fine print: In addition, we request that students fax
a copy of student identification AND proof of current class registration in developer-related courses.
Apple reserves the right to refuse access to this offer by non-students and/or non-developers.

Heh,

after AndyTriboletti's post I decided that even without comparison with DELL PC this deal is hot. So I removed the Dell's regular deal.

1) if you're a student and 2) if you develop (or would like to learn about developing) software for the mac:

I'd advise buying a student developer membership for 99 bucks. You get the benefits of the membership, as well as a hardware discount hardware discount on 1 machine. For the above mentioned uber-power-book the price is 2399 (+ the 99 membership).

I think it's quite a deal.

Also, the new ibook from apple is under 1k. I'm seriously considering it.

Apples rock

I have the high-end G4 for video editing and the PC for all other stuff like deals and games

I have no use for a powerbook but I have used them and they are very nice

I still like the 17 inch iMac, very cool and perfect for the countertop

Just read all the goods on the new Apple Laptop line. The iBook at $999 is VERY tempting. The Powerbook owns. Super-drive, ATI 9000... If you've got the money and you wanted a high end laptop, I wouldn't hesitate on the Powerbook. That double your memory for $40 is a nice deal too

Are you sure you get the Hardware Discount with a Student membership? Also, I remember hearing that you first have to wait like a year before you get this discount? Is this true? Thanks

you can only make one purchase at the ADC store with your student membership. I don't think you have to wait a year to do it either. I advise making ur purchase a big one... laptop + cinema display or something like that.

Also Ipod is only for 399 instead of regular price of 499 with the ADC membership. Deal works as a one time deal, buy all accessories together with this order.
Seems too good to be true someone stop me!!!!!

Yeah, but see which one survives a drop test.

All the same I'd take a Powerbook any day, that thing is just cool. Probably the only Apple product I'd consider besides the iPod.

Edit: not to mention the greatest form of flattery is imitation, PB lovers are gonna like the upcoming Inspiron 8500.

Glad to have provided the info. Hope you choose to use the developer's tools as well, if you order. If you're interested, you can join the 'lite' student ADC for free, it just doesn't include the mailings (access to download them though) or the hardware purchase discount. http://www.apple.com/developer/

Does anyone know of any developer-related courses that would be eligible for the Hardware discount purchase?

Will any say, computer science courses work? Or ISDS courses? Or web development courses? Or any workshops for web developmets?

hmm that would prove pretty tricky to make this deal work. Now if I could find a student who is taking such a developer-related course who dont need a mac. Thats not going to happen I guess since if that student is a Mac involved developer...then he/she would not be available to purchase a second computer. Or I can pay him say his second student development membership fee for 99 bucks.

Ok I am thinking way ahead of meself. I am not even ready to buy this thing yet, pretty broke after the compaq laptop. Anyway, deal hunters will always be thinking of ways to save money. I can be a student who takes developer-related course but that might be a little difficult to fake since I am soooo fossified by the Wintel combo.

Enuff rant. But I am sure at least one or two people would be doing the deal. Lets see who will actually be qualified and actually got the deal the legitimate way. Therefore please post back should you do the deal and is successful.

This is the time to go all the way and get the most beefed up system and really get a deal out of it. Otherwise you probably would have to wait another year to get another hot deal like this.

Good nite

If one die hard PC user or someone who really wants to switch, wants a discount, I can swing them a 15% discount as an employee friend. Conditions may apply(like you can't sell it for a year). This is not an open public offer. I require a die hard story or something defining you. I will rescind this offer if it breaks some esoteric forum rule.
