Amazon ran a deal earlier in the week for a $75 store credit with the purchase of a PS3. Now they've matched recent deals from Wal-Mart and Best Buy with a new offer for a $100 credit towards future purchases.

This deal is for the Playstation 3 160GB only and doesn't come with any extras. However, that $100 credit can go a long ways toward extra controllers and games. Even better, shipping is free and there's no tax in many states (sorry, New Yorkers).

We've contacted Amazon's customer service and they told us that people who bought the PS3 with a $75 credit earlier this week aren't eligible to get their accounts adjusted with the $100 credit.

Well, I'm "we". I just copied and pasted from an article I wrote about this.

Anyways, I called and got no love. They said they'll provide a discount if you the price drops within a certain timeframe but they don't have the same policy about promotions.

I received the additional credit! This was done using the online chat. I doubt which method of communication you use makes a difference, but the more information the better. I made the argument that I could simply return and rebuy, and that this would save work on both ends. They may be more lenient since I don't think I've asked for favors before, but my memory could be hazy.

Okay. I'll forward it to the department concerned. You are supposed to receive the refund by January

The one I received is good to November 2011, not sure about exact date. I'm not sure if this $100 credit will have the same duration.

Interesting, I finally got them to give me an answer and they said it was a 45-day credit. Seems kinda short to me. Anyone else got a 12-month credit?

I really don't know...so of course I'll offer my uninformed opinion.

My guess is that you'll be held responsible for the $75 you spent. Maybe they'd send it to you as a separate invoice, or take that money out of your return (maybe your return would only be good for $225 instead of $300). I don't know if it will take the teeth out of the "return, rebuy" argument.

I stopped at best buy, and because of Wal mart, they matched and I walked out with 2 $50 gift cards with a ps3. They wouldn't apply it to the GT5 bundle though.
