Call 1-612-291-1000 to confirm what I said is true

Until my order says cancelled, I won't worry about it.

Yeah, blu-ray players retail for around $300, so you are absolutely correct. Oh, and it plays PS3 games too?!?!?!?

If they cancel my pre-order I'm going to be pretty peeved, because they charged me the full ammount right off the bat after I got my order confirmation, and I don't like Best Buy having $650 of mine for a week.

not trying to defend bestbuy but its probably just a pre auth and not the actual charge. Then again. If it was a debit trans action it would be different but it wasnt. But then again I could be wrong...Maybe they did charge the full amount.

When you pay online for something, most places (such as BestBuy) will put the funds on hold until the item ships.

Yeah, its probably just a hold on your cc. Ive also read over on the ps forum that some people received back order emails. And that it would be 1-2 weeks to ship.
I havent received one though.

- Any reference to this? Most people received the one that was sent within a couple hours after the order was processed, but other than that I have only heard about a few people getting cancellation e-mails.

I knew it was too easy to be true. I ordered on Saturday night and just got an email that my preorder was cancelled:

Thank you for your recent visit to BestBuy.com. Unfortunately, your pre-order for the PlayStation 3 gaming system will be cancelled. Our system was not intended to take pre-orders on the PlayStation 3 gaming system. BestBuy.com will not be taking pre-orders for this item. Your pre-order will be cancelled and you will not be charged. If you used a Gift Card for this order and no longer have it, please call us toll free at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) and we will send you a replacement. I got my email and $10 coupon too. Someone please explain to me how a "glitch" like this gets through a website for a company as large as Best Buy.

In other news on my website you can preorder the PS3 for $399 right now!! I don't plan on honoring my commitment of sending it to you though if you do buy it. Sorry.

Wow, they are so generous, $10 coupon!

E-mail/write to your local news stations. The worst time for bad publicity for BestBuy is before Christmas. Now is a perfect time to have news stations run an article on everything.

I don't expect BB to honor every order, but I would expect them to honor quite a few of the initially placed orders. The best thing to do is simply honor the first couple hundred orders, and then give out coupons (more than $10 imo) for the people who couldn't have their orders fulfilled. BB is in fact limited by the number of units their receive, so I can understand that they can't possibly send out every order.

Yep, got the cancellation email as well, and was also given a $10 coupon. Now I'm just waiting for the $650 to be removed from my account.

To all those who have recieved the 'your order will be cancelled' email, I encourage you to write bestbuy.com an email refusing the order cancellation and impending gift certificate. The orders have NOT been cancelled yet...DON'T USE YOUR COUPONS YET (as basically once you use the coupons you're essentially accepting into the agreement that your order is cancelled). Almost all the people at another forum (huge post on this) are submitting the following letter on bestbuy.com (on the order status page, there's a link to email regarding order concerns):

To Whom it May Concern:

I do not accept Best Buy's offer to rescind my confirmed order to sell me a Playstation 3 (PS3) for $599. Delivery was promised between 11/17-11/24 as was sent to me in the form of an electronic order confirmation. Best Buy's claimed unilateral mistake is not an acceptable reason to void your acceptance of my offer to buy a PS3. Appropriate consideration was given on both sides and a bilateral agreement was clearly made. I, INSERT NAME, promise to pay offeror, Best Buy, $599 (+ tax & shipping) for delivery of a PS3 by 11/17-11/24.

Furthermore, Best Buy's terms and conditions are immaterial to this. In essence, it is clear now that the intent was to form a click-wrap contract. However, there are two factors that are not considered. First, there is no requirement for a user to read Best Buy's terms & conditions, privacy policy, etc. Simply placing the statement, "By placing your order, you agree to the Best Buy Conditions of Use, Legal Policies and Best Buy's Privacy Policy" in fine print on the order submission page is not acceptable means to gain voluntary agreement to such disclaimers. Any user ordering from your website could easily miss the aforementioned "statement." The submit order button is above and to the right of "the statement" and if a user is reading the page from the top down does not have to read that statement before pressing the submit button.

Please be advised that I have retained hard-copies of all order confirmation pages in addition to screen shots of the order submission page. Please immediately re-instate my order for a PS3 and deliver between 11/17-11/24 as originally stated in my order confirmation. Furthermore, please confirm order re-instatement within 48 hours.

Sincerely,

NAME

Please note that you'll need to substitute your own name at the top and bottom.
Several people are also writing letters to the Better Business Bureau as well (though I'm holding off on this until they actually cancel my order).

I urge you all to take the 5 minutes to do this and put heat on them for such sh.tty business practice. Holding people's credit cards for this period of time (when you're talking about volumes of people) is inexcusable.

Not a good way to generate good will around the holidays. I guess Best Buy has enough customers to go around.

The only thing that I am confused about is that when I check the order status on Best buy's website it does not say "Canceled" anywhere. It still shows preorder. Does everyone else who received a cancelation e-mail also not have any sign of cancellation in order status on Best buy's website?

I guess you always find some people hard to accept that the preorder was nothing more than a glitch. on them i smile at!

um, more like some millionare corporate saps had this whole thing planned so that they could record inflated month end profits right before the deadline. You honestly think them putting up a legitimate link with a legitimate price for the year's hottest item was an 'honest mistake,' or a 'mistake' whatsoever? Lol.

lol, people were upset when they weren't able to get in on it, and now they criticize those who did get in it. Those who did get in on it are upset that BB isn't fulfilling the order.

Can't please anyone, eh...

People who placed the orders thinking they were going to get a pre-order have a reason to complain. The $10 BB coupon is insulting.
