I got the black pcb and etrontech 2.8ns memory today in the morning. The fedex guy woke me up. I just got off the phone with newegg and they're doing a full refund for me. I just have to pay for the shipping but it's still okay considering that on the site it says that it's non-refundable. Good newegg service, bad batch of cards. I will still continue to do business with newegg because of this situation.
Did you even bother testing the card? Or did you not want to take any chances of it not being fast enough to flash and then having to pay a restocking fee? I've never heard of Etron-Tech chips on 9800s, so could someone please test theirs out to see how far they can overclock, and if it is far enough to flash?
why are you returning the card? What is wrong with etron tech... especially if its @ 2.8ns seems better than the 3.0 or 3.3ns Samsung that people have been able to overclock. Did you try overclocking?
Yeah, i'd like to see what the Etron-Tech can do as well...i havent seen anyone testing them yet. Though if i get it (which i probably will) i'll probably try and return it too, i'm tired of dealing with sub-par products when i pay for the good stuff. All i want to be able to do is soft mod it to a 9800 pro.
2.8ns memory is rated at 350MHz isn't it? Why are you guys returning your cards??? Someone PLEASE test their card, cuz mine won't be here until Monday. Thanks!
I got mine just now, it has a black PCB and EtronTech 2.8 ram. Not surprising since everyone else got the same thing...i thought my odds were good when i ordered it though, but damn. I think will be returning mine as well, no one else seems to have any trouble returning them. Still sucks though :brokenheart:
doobie, from what I've gathered actually the opposite is true. ATI and its OEM builders use 9800 pcbs for the 9600 series but just change the core...
technically you would be correct in saying they used the 9600 pcb and put a 9800 core on it, but you would also be correct if you said the opposite. I'll post some links when I find the info...
Actually, i think that's the exact same one...so i guess that's a bad thing.
I suppose i'll wait and see what people can do with the Entron Tech. I havent see any actual result proof, just heard people saying it's crappy. I just don't like the look of the black pcb...
On the first page of this thread there is a link to amdmb forums with some good info on the card. One guy was able to hit 400/360 with it, but stated that at that speed it was a little slower in benchmarks than a red pcb 9800np clocked at 400/330 (I believe those were the numbers he listed). If this info is genuine, this card is probably just an underclocked Sapphire OEM 9800 Pro like the black pcb model Newegg sells for $305 here.
If i can just get it to pro speed without putting a ton of stress on the card i might be alright. Though i've been struggling with heat problems for a while now alreadly...so even a little more heat would be bad.
Got mine earlier today but I don't know which chips are the memory or how to tell what kind of memory.
It has 4 square flat chips that say Etrontech and another 20 pin chip that says apw1175 aeat6. Their are some more smaller
chips which I can't read as the writing is too small and faint.
I just opened and saw black pcb and that was it. I didn't want to risk the restocking fee and just paid a few bucks to get it back to Newegg. I admit I'm a little greedy though, having a $220 open box bba radeon 9800 w/ infineon 3.0ns. I just can't run the damn ram beyond 325mhz but the core gets crazy up to 420 mhz. I'm running the zalman zm80c-hp with the fan so that's probably helping it. no more risking it for me, i should be happy with what I have.
So has anyone been able to do anything with their EtronTech ram'd 9800s? I either gotta ship it back today by 5 or wait till monday to ship it back i think. It might not be worth the hassle of returning it and buying a new one really.
