DEAD - Radeon 9800NPs back @ NewEgg - $243!

Newegg has offered to take the card back and with a thirty dollar discount for another card. If I do return it, I plan on getting the power color 9800pro card. Is the power color card any better then the Sapphire card I have right now? Is it even worth returning? I'm semi-happy with the card but I still have this lingering feeling that I have been jipped. I'm on the fence as to returning it or not and getting a Powercolor 9800pro.

Any comments?

I'm not so sure that it is a good deal.

BestBuy has the ATI 9800 pro on sale for $350 with a $50 rebate. Of course you will have to add tax to that which would be around $25 or so. But you would also get the coupon for HalfLife 2 which has a value of around $50.

350 +8% tax = 378
-50 rebate = 328 rebate only good though 11/01/03 so time is running out.
-50 Halflife = 278

Now I have 243 already in the Sapphire card.
Newegg will give me $30 for their shipping of the wrong card. 273
The powercolor card is 319 so I would have to add another 46 dollars to get it or in other words spend $289 for the powercolor card.

If you want Halflife 2 and it's worth $50 to you the BestBuy deal seems to be better.

CircuitCity also had the ATI 9800 for $250 or around $270 after tax.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm disapointed that I did not get the card I ordered. I hate having to waste all of this time dealing with this mess. I put the Sapphire card in my KK266 and could not get it to run all the way through 3d Mark 2001 or 2003(hung or crashed to desktop) so it may have to go back in any case. I have some time today and will try a different power supply and reinstalling the drivers after using driver cleaner though I was already using the Cats 3.7 on my Radeon LE DDR.

I'm also tired of the idiots that couldn't tell the difference between a Ford and a Chevy and won't bother or waste my time replying to them anymore.

But you make sure to take the time to call them idiots? Incredible. As for the card not working on your KK266 (or do you mean KT266) board, have you posted a help thread in the video card forums, or on any other forums? In terms of trouble-shooting, you seem to be on the right track. It sounds like the card might be not be getting enough power, so you should definietly go ahead and swap in a better PSU. The card does work in another system, correct?

Aknosis, keep trying. A year ago UPS lost my roommate's $2500 laptop. It took him close to a full month of calls and waiting to get them to re-imburse him for the cost of the laptop, but in the end, he did get his money back.

Yes, I would call someone that can't tell the difference between a Ford and a Chevy an idiot. I don't see anything incredible about that. Would you like to know what I would call someone that ordered a new red Ford because that is what they wanted and than took delivery on an inferior older black Chevy because that is what the dealer tried to deliver to them?

No, I haven't yet posted for help. This is the first day that I have the time to dig into this problem. So far with a clean driver install and new install of 3dmark 2001 it still crashes when it gets to the nature test. The truck, dragothic and lobby parts work.

I'll try a 340w power supply and if that doesn't work than back it goes.

As for your card: I figured you meant KK266, but since there is a difference (KT133A chipset v KT266) I had to ask. Good luck on get on getting that card to work!

Nor was it necessary for those that disagreed to thread crap about a subject in which it is obvious that they have very limited information or for them to say that I was "off base" or any of their other stupid comments. The response of Newegg has proven me correct in any case. They sent out a card that did not meet the description on their web page.

Now it seems that Newegg is handleling the problem in fair and proper way. I just wish that I didn't have to mess with it. And no, the card is still not working after installing a 340 watt power supply.

Well there you go... You are trying to put the engine of a 747 in a Sessna. Or more likely for you, a F350 deisel in a Escort.
It is highly unlikely that you will see any great gains by placing this video card onto such an old chipset. You are so limited by your slow processor and memory timings can not handle what this card needs to perform the way it is meant to.

I have a new Abit NF7-S, Barton 2500,160g Maxtor hd and 1g of PC3200 just waiting to be all put together. I want to know this video card is going to work before I make the change over and I wanted benchmarks from my old video card on this motherboard, the new video card on this motherboard and then the new video card on the new motherboard.

So do you have anything to contribute to this thread?

I guess it just ain't my week.

Called Newegg and explained that I got the wrong card. The lady I talked to was nice and polite and offered an RMA immediately.

She then explained that I would only get back part of my cost of shipping the card back to them. I have to fax the receipt to them after it is mailed. Absolutely nothing about the $30 that other people have been getting.

So I'm out something for shipping, have to find a fax machine to send them the receipt, have to spend the time to box it up and mail it back to them and I all get for this time, trouble and money is an "I'm sorry".

So far the card still won't run all the way through either 3dMark 01 or 03. I'm going to fire up the NF7-S and see if it will work on that motherboard.

This deal has turned into a real mess for me.

I didn't even try the flash yet, since my system is reporting 9800 Pro already. I received a card with the black PCB (which looks better in my system IMHO) and the Entrontech memory.

I ran some initial benchmarks with 3D Mark 03, and got a 4723 for a full clean test.

I downloaded Rage3D, and played with the overclocks for a bit... finally settled on:

Core Clock: 380.25 MHz
Memory Clock: 333.00 MHz

which yielded a 3D Mark 03 of 5519!

Too bad for all the whiners out there... I'm satisfied for what I spent.

I'm glad you're happy with it. Windows XP usually detects the NP as a Pro (it did for mine, and many others), but as you found out, if you look @ the clockspeeds via Rage3D/Rivatuner/Omega you see that it is in fact a NP.

Well I got my package on Friday 8 days after I ordered it with rush processing and 2day shipping, I also got the black pcb with entechron ram but in the mean time I bought hte 9800 pro from Best Buy so I'm gonna try and see what I can do to send it back, they dropped it off at another guy's house and he open the box, the video card and floppy drive are in there but if they sent me a shirt then he took it cause there wasn't a shirt in my box. Just my luck the 9800 pro I got was deffective so I had to get a 2nd one from BestBUy that works. A little ticked but I'm still alive.
