I figured I'd start another E3000 thread since the old one is DEAD and getting too long and confusing.

Newegg has the refurbished Linksys E-3000 for $49.95 with coupon code EMCNHHF24.....and free shipping. Expires 3/1/12

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...022412-Index-_-WirelessRouters-_-33124419-L0D

Just grabbed one for myself.....

edit: Newegg sweetened the same deal to $45.99 free shipping now with the same coupon code.

http://www.techbargains.com/news_displayItem.cfm/287838

edit: Well it appears Newegg is no longer honoring the deal or coupon code until March 1 as the original promotions states. I tried to enter the coupon again and it won't take it. I tried to contact Newegg twice to find out what is going on and why they cancelled the deal and their customer service reps won't respond. I tried to use the chat feature and that was down as well. So looks like Newegg is ignoring any requests for an explanation they just decided to stop it. IMO this is a pretty bush league way of doing business.

Sort of looks like Newegg just pulled a fast one. The original regular price of the item was $59.99 when the ad came out and I made my purchase. Now during the same day the promotion started it seems they dropped the regular price to $55.99. My question would be why?

I'm contacting Newegg to see if people who bought it at the original deal price are eligible for a $4.00 credit. It looks like the coupon does not say $10.00 off but rather that you get it for the $49.99 price so I may be SOL.

It's not the money it's the principal. It's just bad business to drop the price of an item during an ongoing promotion like they did. In fact it's unheard of from my experience.

How would you feel if you bought a car and the very same day the dealer dropped the price of the car $2000 after you paid full price? Would you say oh they have a great service department let them keep my 2 grand? I think not.....

if i paid full price, then it wasnt in a promotion and they have every right to lower the price that day if they want. even if i did get it on a promotion, and they turn around and sell the same product to someone else for a lower price... its not illegal or immoral. this is capitalism, the way all us americans love.

and youre comparing $4 to $2k. seriously.... a newegg cs rep that gets paid $15/hr takes 15min to process your request for $4 and youre basically costing newegg money for no reason other then your ability to buy another big mac sandwich.

Good grief you missed the entire point here. The issue is not whether it's a measly $4 or half a million. You just don't change prices in the middle of a promotion. That's just plain bad business not to mention a fantastic way to piss off customers. I hear more people now than ever complaining about Newegg's customer service since they are under new ownership. It's not the old Newegg any longer. Where have you been?

If you want to donate your money to Newegg then you have my blessing is all I can say. I do not. The common thing for reputable etailers to do these days is give a price guarantee on your purchase. If the price drops within a specified amount of time they refund difference. That's just the way things are these days. Do you think all these people frequent this HOT DEALS forum and stress over saving a few bucks getting the best deal they possibly can because they want to donate their money to Newegg customer service agents....NOT!!!

Newegg's cost of doing business is not of any concern to consumers whatsoever. That is figured into the overhead. It's a business not a charity. Have a nice day!

i think that was MY entire point. and look at it this way, youre getting mad for newegg trying to either pass on more savings, or sell more product.

i suppose if a company had a reputation of putting something on sale and then a day later lower the price more it might annoy some people, but places like kohls does that all the time and they dont honor differences from price reductions. if you dont like the price it is while youre looking at it, dont buy it.

$46 shipped is an awesome deal for this router. Too bad I don't need one. Thanks for the Hot Deal, OP, even if it pisses you off!

yeah for that price its actually a KICK ASS wireless ethernet adapter too. unless you need the compact size of a usb adapter, this would absolutely destroy any $40 wifi adapter.

I went ahead and ordered one. I can't pass up an E3000 for $46 (I already own one E3000 and paid $90 for it. That makes me so angry. ). I have a friend that needs a router upgrade, and I may sell him my spare E2000.

go for it mister. the e2000 is a great 2.4ghz router, but without being able to simultaneously run the 5ghz channel it makes it kinda lame

seriously, i want to buy a bunch of these e3000's for this price, but at the same time i doubt they will go up in price... i bet refurbs will soon go for $40 any day of the week on ebay. weird but theres really no excuse for anyone to have a crummy router now

I already have one E3000 and two E2000s in use at the HouseOfMisterE. The E3000 is my central firewall/router, and I have the two E2000s connected via WDS to provide wired connectivity to the far ends of my house. I use the 5GHz radios for the WDS links and the E3000's 2.4GHz radio for client connections. This setup works great.

I wouldn't call the E2000 lame, but having a spare E3000 instead is obviously a better option. I've owned my spare E2000 for only a few weeks, and that's why I was wavering on ordering an E3000. I can sell the E2000 tomorrow, though, so that problem is taken care of.

i didnt mean it was a lame router, and i suppose in your case that is a great point. you can get two 2000's for about $60 for the pair if you buy those refurb, and like you said that provides basically a 100mb wired link (at least thats how it will perform) without having to run any wires.

my mom could actually use something like that..... finished basements are a bitch

So... what is so special about this router? And how does my Netgear WNR3500 compare to it? Looks like it has a USB port that I guess could allow any computer connected to the router to access and store data on a hard drive or something?

...i'd buy one but someone at newegg or google "edit" up their $40 for $20 coupons and mine shows up as expired. CS on both sides seem to bounce me back and forth.

nothing too special. just a good fast solid router with simultaneous dual band and usb port, for only $45. that is just a steal. its a $100+ class router.

And it supports the open source DDWRT, and Tomato firmwares, which give you features of MUCH higher priced routers for a fraction of the cost.

It is no longer the best router (home user) out there...it was in the top 3 about 2 years ago when it comes to performance routers under $200. That said it is still a *explicative* awesome router. And easily one of the top 10 in performance. It has great wireless range, coverage area, and can handle an extremely large amount of connections at a time.

It is also flashable to other firmwares such as dd-wrt.

It is extremely good price at $50 dollars, to get comparable performance (new) you would have to spend about $120ish.

-------------
That said this router seems to have an overheating problem and thus there are a large number of refurbs of this router on the market.

When it comes to wireless home router reviews I am a big fan of this website.

I really need a new router, but I've been reading a lot of really bad reviews about Linksys's newer models (the new style routers), Can it be flashed with ddwrt? I've heard the antenna isn't as good as the older models, causing it to frequently disconnect and that they decreased the amount of firmware memory on it. I've also read about overheating and lockup issues due to the small size of the case. Is this one any better than the lower models in terms of reliability?

i dont remember any router that people didnt complain about overheating issues. dont put it on top of your cable modem, or in the sun. and turn your thermostat to lower then 82F.

or, open it up and replace the heatsink. or at least repaste it.

Does this support Jumbo Frames?

:/ i hate ask, but why? ddwrt doesnt even support that... so if the e3000 does its with the stock firmware... and even if thats the case you wouldnt notice any performance difference
