BTW My web interface is very speedy. Didn't have the slow problem another poster mentioned. I didn't bother with Cisco Connect software. What does it offer that is not in the web interface?
The E4200 has a real heat problem that is overcome by placing it on its edge with the power plug at the bottom. The design of this series is not good for air flow. The hot air wants to rise but there are NO vents in the top. Somebody in marketing probably thought it looked cool and corporate politics won out over the design engineer who know better.
So just in case, I always place these on their edge.
Most of the problems people complain about wireless routers are related to their configurations/setup but it is easier to just blame the equipment.
It is no longer the best router (home user) out there...it was in the top 3 about 2 years ago when it comes to performance routers under $200. That said it is still a *explicative* awesome router. And easily one of the top 10 in performance. It has great wireless range, coverage area, and can handle an extremely large amount of connections at a time.
It is also flashable to other firmwares such as dd-wrt.
It is extremely good price at $50 dollars, to get comparable performance (new) you would have to spend about $120ish.
-------------
That said this router seems to have an overheating problem and thus there are a large number of refurbs of this router on the market.

When it comes to wireless home router reviews I am a big fan of this website.

Just so everyone knows, don't expect an ounce of support from Newegg. I received mine on Friday and it didn't have the power adapter. Here is my short conversation with a Newegg rep this morning.
Status: Connected
Helena (Listening)
Helena: Hi, my name is Helena. How may I help you?
Me: Yes, I received my E3000 RM on Friday and did not get the power adapter for it.
Helena: I would be glad to assist you with that. I show that the item is the recertified item and we are unable to guarantee it will come the adapter or not. The term “recertified” means previously owned products that were returned due to defects. You may contact with the manufacturer at 1-800-326-7114 to check if they can send you one adapter or not. The defective items are returned to a third party to be tested, repaired and repackaged. These products are then resold at a reduced rate of 10-30% on our website. The recertified product may differ in packaging and accessories, but will usually be comparable with new versions. On occasion accessory items may or may not be included, and/or substituted. However, we do not guarantee accessories for recertified even it is listed in the product specifications/pictures. For warranty service regarding these products, please contact Newegg for assistance.
Me: But this is something needed for the router to work. This is not simply an accessory
Helena: We apologize that we are unable to assist you directly at this time. Please contact with the manufacturer for further help.
I have had horrible support from Newegg lately, and it seems I am not the only one. I used to deal with them almost exclusively and now I think I will look elsewhere for all of my computer related purchases.
Wow. This is the kind of stuff a shady online computer parts company I used to work for pulled, I wouldn't have expected it from a big company like newegg. They should take the responsibility and deal the "third party", while either refunding you or sending an adapter out.
Make sure you post this on Newegg's site also. They need to put in their product description that it may be missing necessary parts to operate it.
"Refurbished" products have been tested to ensure compliance with original manufacturer specifications, and MAY include a limited manufacturer warranty - see the item's product page for details.
While not as bad as Celeryman's situation, the power adapter that came with my E3000 didn't work at all. Tried it on other devices and it's DOA. Luckily I had an extra adapter and didn't bother with Newegg.
Is anyone using their E3000 as a NAS? I got mine setup with a 250GB external HD and was really disappointed in the speed transfer. I only get about 2-3 MB/s writing to the external. Any tips for improving this speed or is this just the limit of the E3000 and it's CPU?
