Is it really worth 100+ more than the 4870? I saw the review and it seems to be just an overclocked 4870

Also i would think if you could hold off for a few weeks i bet the price will drop below 200.

I forgot this is 1GB so its not comparable to the 4870's going for around 110.

Just pick one up, will return my GTX260. Been reading comparison between the 4890 vs gtx275, and the 4890 seems to edge out little more, and if the card can be overclock to 1ghz core, it will definitely be better than gtx275, if not gtx280.

Nice post OP. I hate rebates.

You can't even buy a USED 4870 1GB for that low, let alone a new one.

Nice deal, 20% faster than my 4870 512MB while running 20c cooler and using 20 watts less power. All for $100 less than I paid last July.

it said 48 hours on friday... looks like they've removed the 48 hours... maybe not selling as good as they'd hoped...

Looks like most will overclock to ~930Mhz or so before flickering textures start cropping up. The review sites claiming 975 MHz to 1 GHz are being a bit disingenuous as usual. Sure, the card doesn't lock-up your computer at those clocks, but the tearing and blips will be rampant.

It's also fairly loud in comparison to my GTX 260, but oh so much faster in the games I play.

Received the card today. The fan was hard to turn as well.. it doesn't move freely when I tried to turn it. Then when I push the center of the fan against the board, and heard a snap! then the fan was moving freely. I think somehow the fan was not attached correctly, that's why your fan seems to be dead.

Before return the card for warraty, try to push the center of the fan and see if you can feel a snap.. if does, then you should be good to go.. need better qc I guess.

after everything is running, I was able to oc to 950mhz gpu, and 1100mhz memory.. very nice!

Can anyone comment on how hot these cards get. I was thinking about upgrading from a 8800 for the performance boost but I don't want a blowtorch in my case.

Deal's back, sorta. Coupon 20bunny gets you $20 off. Prices went down (?) so it's even cheaper than before. Not sure how shipping works but I can get the XFX 4890 cheaper than the Sapphire, even though the XFX doesn't have free shipping.

default fan control is set at 23%, and my card run @53deg, room temp @ 78deg.
Raise the fan to 40% (still fairly quiet), card is at 49deg. Under load it goes to 68-70deg. Very acceptable.

btw, my card is overclocked to: GPU Clock 900Mhz, Mem 1100Mhz. I can go up to 950Mhz with no problem, but don't want to run too hot, so I will just stay at 900Mhz GPU Clock.

20bunny didn't work on this card for me...

How can anyone find 40% fan on this card acceptable? It sounds like a vacuum cleaner to me at that point.

you can always get an aftermarket fan/cooler if you wish.. but 40% is pretty decent for me. but over 50% is not acceptable for me though..
