HD7970 is also a great choice for high resolutions.

For anyone transitioning to Windows 8, here is a nice review of GTX680 vs. HD7970 Ghz Edition (remember this is a 1.05ghz version of 7970).

That cooler is *so* quiet. It's great.

Only drawback is that of the 3 that I have had the pleasure of using, they didn't overclock nearly as well. Could usually only get them to 1050 before problems started.

Did you increase the voltage via MSI Afterburner unofficial overclocking unlock?

Hmm, I just ordered up the 7950 of this card for 289.99 (I'm too lazy for MiR). Not sure the extra 100 is worth it. I guess it depends on OC capabilies. The 7950 version seems to OC pretty easily to 1100MHz according to the NE reviews. I would think this could get pretty high as well with voltage tweaking.

I wonder why they switched to a blue PCB?

How's this price/performance wise compared to the $270 7950?

Worse for the 7970. HD7950 @ 1.15mhz will be 5-6% slower in games I bet against a 1.15ghz HD7970. The price difference is 30%. That Sapphire 7950 card went up to $285 now though. Even with old drivers, HD7950 @ 1.135mhz was a beast. That card's performance/$ is unbeatable above $250.

7970 @ 1230mhz

Is this the model that is voltage locked?

I am guessing no. The blue PCB appears similar to the HD7950 Sapphire card and reviews for that card show people overclocking with voltage adjustments. The voltage adjustment doesn't work on my Sapphire Dual-X HD7970 card without an Unofficial MSI Afterburner unlock anyway. Probably why some people might report that their cards are voltage locked. When I got the card, I could move the voltage to 1.3V and press apply in Sapphire Trixx but it was not doing anything under GPU-Z / HWinFO64. To enable voltage control, enable MSI unofficial overclocking mode.

I have to ask someone who knows more than me, ok so this question is to everyone LOL

I am on 460sli and going to upgrade, how does this compare to a 7950 or a 7970.
Can ATI do FXAA ?
That seems to be what everyone tells me is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

GTX460 SLI is about as fast as a GTX580 assuming yours are 1GB versions and assuming the scaling works well and you don't experience stuttering (micro-stutter) that normally occurs with lower end GPUs in SLI/Cross-fire.

HD7950 overclocked or HD7970 will be a decent upgrade but if you can overclock GTX460s you will still have respectable performance. Perhaps you can wait until next year to upgrade unless your cards are actually choking in games already. I would suggest you overclock the 460s as that series is highly overclockable. Just download MSI Afterburner and move the GPU voltage to 1.087V and move the GPU clocks from 675mhz to 750-800mhz. You should gain a nice free performance increase in games. Some 460s can overclock to 900mhz+.

Can ATI do FXAA? That seems to be what everyone tells me is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Yes it can. Any game that supports FXAA natively (from the in-game control panel) will work perfectly fine on AMD GPUs. The difference is you can force FXAA with NV Inspector tool but with AMD cards you can force MLAA through their control panel. MLAA and FXAA are basically the same thing with very little difference, with some games actually looking better with MLAA (MLAA and FXAA are both post-processing Anti-aliasing filters).

Anyone who tells you that you cannot run FXAA on AMD cards is dead wrong.

For example, this is how FXAA and MLAA look on AMD cards in Dishonored.
