My latest SBC DSL bill indicates it's for the Expert Plus plan, however I cancelled my order for it. Oh, boy, I get to cozy up to their stellar and robust support system in an effort to straighten this out. I just knew they would screw that up.

The last few days I've been unable to send an email with a < 7 MB attachment. The "help" person is unable to figure out what's going on (but making a living). They appear to have a 10 MB limit, but I'm under that...

No offense meant, Muse, but when you go outside the plans specifications, you are bound to get problems.

Expert and Expert Plus are DYNAMIC IP plans. They have 1 IP. The last reported upper threshold for these was 9,000 feet from the CO.

All these things are things that are different than the Expert and Expert Plus plan specifications.

It seems like you're trying to "tailor" these plans to your own liking and it's not working quite the way you expected.

Good luck on getting everything fixed though.

While a attachment is less than 7MB, that's when it's in binary form. When you attach it, it uuencodes it which will make the file bigger than the original file as it converts the file to a text format which has to be uudecoded when it receives the other end.

I don't know. I finally was passed up to a second level technical support specialist (at my insistence/suggestion). He tells me that the main account has 25 mb limit but subaccounts (that's what I'm using) has 10 mb limit. He says I can request they boost my limit to 75 mb on my main account (I think the Expert Plus stipulates that, although I wasn't supposed to get that but seem to have). In any event, he says I can immediately work around the problem by going to the website (sbc.yahoo.com, I guess), and deleting all the crap from my Bulk folder and any other dross and then composing and sending my message from there from my main account (25 mb limit). Then my 10 mb file shouldn't be a problem. I thank him, say goodbye and try it. Too many databytes again, drat! I guess I'll call them again and see if they can sort it out. My workaround was just to break the file up. It was just a zipfile with 6 files in it. I sent them in pairs, no problem. It grates me, though, that I can't send an 8 MB file. That seems unwarrantedly restrictive in today's data communications environment.

Actually, it's pretty normal since most places won't allow mails exceeding a certain size anyways. So even if you successfully send it, the receiving end may just bounce it back.
