There's a discussion on this issue. Try experimenting with differant rwin values, even down to 25k or so. Some people are saying on dslreports forums that high rwin will help laggy sites but will slow fast sites transferring to you. So play around with it.

But yea, if you didn't know, some of the DSL LINES for SBC/DSLEXTREME/Sonic.net are currently active days before activation. So if you already received your modem plug it in and see if you get sync.
Currently running at 4120/512 speeds as of yesterday!
Yes, but you say in your post that the deal is only in CA and that its not direct from SBC, it's with sonic and dslextreme. I was first hot deal post AFAIK about the SBC official deal

Is that what they told you? Or are you guessing? Because they've been telling everyone that it takes up to a week from date of call. And so far only a very few who ordered on Monday when deal started have gotten upgraded. I think most success stories you will hear this weekend and next week.

What dsl modem are you using? I heard on dslreports that speedstream 5260 (the one i got from dslx) can't handle the full 6Mbps. I wonder if that's true...
Link to post
That link doesn't talk about that. You are taking it out of context, let me paste some comments from that thread:
I have a SpeedStream Modem, is there anyway to get into this thing to see any stats on it?
You can't get the max rates using the Speedsteam modem. Only if it's an older 5360 with a very specific model number and Enternet 1.5b can you even get the sync rate.
The FAQ describes the modems/routers that can see the max rate.
If swilliams is refering to the Ameritech FAQ its not all in one FAQ. Generally if your modem is also a router it will have "line stats".
I didn't mean line stats since my Westell is capable of that. I thought he was saying that some modems are able to use the full capacity of the sync speed while some aren't.
Notice he said he THOUGHT the other guy said this. But he didn't, they were talking about getting speed stats off of modem. I.e. find out exact sync rate from modem (some modems can tell you this info and even what condition your lines are in, like noise levels). And the poster implies that he knows that know since he admits his mistake and says he THOUGHT the other guy said something.

Am I a nitpicker? Yes

hehe it's all good now. Getting almost 5000kbps so I'm happy it wasn't the modem/line/splitter problem. Looks like my speed ramped up almost 120k/sec from last night (getting 3125-4000kbps last night).

And I'm that poster but the best deal is really $44.95 from www.sonic.net... I'm getting the full 6Mbps/608kbps, 4365 feet from the CO in San Francisco. sonic.net includes unix shell account, 8 static ip's and it's $44.95 actually dollars. SBC's offer has a $2-$3 tax.

A year is enough.... It's Quality and not quantity

Meh, im 13,800ft from the CO. Ive had SBC come out & check my lines twice in which they said I was near the box & have very good speeds. I got 1245 from dslreports but my connection is too sparatic...droping itself with only decent peaks...horrible for an "always on" connection.

Mine got turned on last night, but it wasn't due to be activated until Monday. I had 1500/256, which was stable as a rock, and upgraded to the new 3000/384 package. Starting Friday I kept loosing sync every 30-60 minutes or so and would have to reboot my DSL modem. Each time I would reboot it though it went a little faster (it jumped to 1700, then 2100, then 2800). This morning I was getting 3100 downloads, so I'm hoping they're conditioning my lines and it'll be stable again by Monday. Uploads seem to be locked in at 512K- that hasn't changed since the upgrade.

I'd do this, but I'm worried about this in their terms:

"Offer requires a one-year term agreement. After the expiration of this term agreement, the then-current month-to month or applicable term price will apply.

Their current month-to-month fee is $139.95!

Thats what they told me, but the ASI guys said its a screw up on there side. If you call and renew your contract before the year is up you stay at the same price.

I signed up only to find out after the upgrade the line to my house could not handle the speed. After talking with tech support a second time (my original service was reinstated after the 1st call) a technician was scheduled to come to the house to check the line. He said I need to be set at 768 to guarantee stability. Then the surprise. He said there is Pronto/RT in my area (called to verify) that uses fiber optic lines rather than copper. The down side is the current service needs to be shut down for a couple days and then takes about a week for the new service to come on line. The positive is I will be able to get the Expert Plus service at the $44.99 price.

If you are told you do not qualify for the upgrade and can live with 10 days with no DSL (dial up will work - and be painful), you still might be able to take advantage of this deal.

I called, 877-722-3755, verified what the service technican told me and am on the schedule for the switch over.

I wouldn't worry about it. You are talking about an additional 60ish kbyte/sec download on top of your 600+ kbyte/sec current rates. I'd say if you are hitting 600 KiloBytes per second download you are doing dang good as it is. (keep in mind there's a 10%-15% tcp and dsl overhead).
I would check the usual stuff, make sure your connection is properly tweaked (use tools from dslreports) and make sure filters are on every line, etc.

Comcast is 3.5mbit down for $20 a month in your area.

I think the $20 price is only for 3 months, or maybe 6 months. Whereas the $45 price for SBC DSL is supposedly for even after the year is up. And of course you should go comcast if you want invisible total giggage bandwidth caps, where if you go over them they kick you out.
Your choice

Ok, my choice. The "invisible limit" is 100gb a month. I don't have to maintain a $15/mo landline that I don't use and the $20/mo fee is renegoitiable. I've had it for over a year now.

The 100 gig is not confirmed since comcast wont give any official numbers. It could be 50 gig or 20 gig. Comcast wont tell you. But since it works fine for you so far, you might as well keep it. For me, the land line is my primary phone so I need it anyway, and I dont get cable TV, so I couldn't get even the $20 price, even if I wanted to give up my current speed and no giggage caps. So SBC fits me better. Different strokes for different folks
