If you can find a friend that needs one, this deal is actually better, regardless of the waiting for a rebate with my tax rate:

Best Buy 129.99+10.72 =140.71-90+.37 (stamp) = $51.08 each
Staples 89.98+7.42 = $97.40 / 2 = $48.70 each

$51.08 - 48.7 = $2.38 in my pocket, plus no waiting, plus piece of mind not worrying about the rebate.

If I just needed one, I would probably go with the Best Buy deal. Then again, probably not because I don't shop there anymore.

let's not forget Maxtor is UATA/133 where WD/Seagate is only UATA/100. Benchmarks show the Maxtor has a higher burst rate (higher then 100 MB/s) while seagate is capped at 100 MB/s. Also surprisingly, the biggest performance advantage vs the seagate is in write speed - it was quite a lot faster (more than 25%). Sequential read speed is about the same. I measured this using my 160GB Seagate and 250GB Maxtor.

It is looking good that we will receive the hard drives, mine is out for delivery according to UPS. To check your status with them go here:

UPS Website

Use your order number from Staples as your Reference number and check the agree to terms box. It will then show you the status.

Entered my order number in the UPS tracking system. My 2 drives will be delivered today. By the way, I ordered Sunday 20, around 2:00pm EST. I live in Pennsylvania.

Some deliveries aren't by way of UPS so they will not show up in the UPS tracking system. Staples also delivers via their 'Courier' trucks so don't fret if you don't get a tracking number from that page. If you really want to know whether your order went through you should call them @ 1-800-3STAPLE and give them your order number. That is the easiest way to confirm if your drives are being shipped.

Looks like a valid deal. Maybe it just has some thing to do with number of availible drives in your area.

mine showed the order was placed but I couldn't look at the details because Order Number and ZIP Code Do Not Match. I called staples and he said this was because I made the order after it was OOS. So I asked to be compinsated and after being on hold for a few minutes they gave me the same deal and said they found a few in stock. So I guess i'm happy.

Ordered Sunday around noon and now they're telling me it's OOS, screwed , heh. I called and asked why people that ordered after me got their drives already, but I won't at all. They told me that maybe they recieved their drives from warehouses closer to them. Whatever, anyway I am getting a $10 gift certificate from em.

I'm still wondering why they never emailed and/or called to let me know they were cancelling my order.

Mine were delivered today. They were shipped from the Chambersburg, PA warehouse which isn't very far from where I live.

Looks to be the people who live close to the distribution points did OK

I ordered at 2:35 on 2/20 and the drives were delivered at 4:35 on 2/22.
