Don't forget EBates for F@tcash!

(1 to 1.1% back)!

Great drive...I've got the 2MB version and it's plenty fast for me and super quiet! (Picked up for $76.xx after coupon and shipping (No MIR ) from a HD thread a couple of months ago) I love this drive. I should have jumped on the 160GB at CompUSA for $99.xx after MIR a couple of weeks ago!

PacoDeth, the point is that many feel the Seagate is worth the premium because of its low noise and because many think these drives last longer. I had a WD 3.2GB that died in about 3 1/2 years, and a Maxtor that died in like 2 years 8 months. It may be worth it to pay extra for a Seagate; Seagate deals are hard to find as well.

A few weeks ago, the better deal of a 160GB/ 8MB 7200.7 at $99.99 AR at Compusa popped up, but that's rare to happen, and you're still paying ~$20 more over a Maxtor drive hot deal.

Maxtors don't run as quiet as Seagate, and overall, Seagate makes a more reliable drive.

This is pretty good deal for a seagate. I've had a few seagates and they've always been quiet and reliable.

Yes, out of the many hard drives I have gone through, I am truly in love with the Seagate Barracuda series. Quiet as a bird, and by far the most reliable drive I have ever used. Been strictly Seagate for just a little over a year now, and this is a damn good deal for a Seagate.

Seagate is well worth it...owned a few seagates but this 200gb WD drive is driving me nuts, a freaking 35dBA...the seagates are only 25dBA.

This deal @ CompUSA actually ran for the past two weeks, ending yesterday. I'm hoping it comes back again in the next few weeks when I have more cash!

Actually, the rebate expired on 9/4 for the 160GB drive!

Also, my experience tells me that WD drives die before all of them.....Have had 4 WD drives die (3 at work)...never had a Maxtor or Seagate fail. (Not used many Seagates though). Also had a Fujitsu fail!

correct on the 9-4 date ..CompUSA bastages pulled a oops..20+ Maxtors..1 failed..due to an electrical fault on the power co.'s end..Maxtor sent a 40GB 7.2k for a 20GB 7.2k ..11 WD ..no failures yet..`1 IBM DOA ..4 Seagates..all still running ..heh..the lil 1.1GB Connor still runs ..current drive..80GB 740XL ..with a backup 100GB WD 7.2k 2mb. I like my Maxtors tho ..like Engineer wished I'd have sprung for that 160 Seagate tho..

I never had any problems with them, but make sure to make copies of everything, just in case.

Although I agree that Barracudas are quiet drives (which is the most important factor to me), it has been my experience they last no longer than other drives. A Barr IV which I bought last year from Dell has already died and been RMAed. The replacement drive they shipped me is already showing some signs of death. Yesterday, it froze the entire computer while making a loud clicking noise and BIOS couldn't detected it during bootup. Had to unplug all the cables and wait a couple hours before it worked again. Now it's fine again, but asap this drive is getting RMAed. And for those of you modders, yes the HD were properly cooled and no I was not doing messing around with it while it was on.

Which brings me to my point, are there any extend warranties I can buy? I know WD sells them, but can't find any info about that on Seagate's site.

Not so - CompUSA ran another week 9/6 - 9/13 for the 160gb. Just check your local deal sites.

This is still a great deal - just waiting to hear if someone will be offering another $100 AR rebate deal on the 160gb...also tempted to pay $20 more for it without rebate via pricewatch.
