I've had 4 of these running in a RAID 5 for over a year with no problems. Just to be safe I ran each of them through Barts Stuff Test first to make sure they weren't going to crap out. Grabbing another for a cold spare, thanks OP.

I've had enough 7200.11 drives die on me to say no thanks. I am in no way against Seagate as their 7200.12s have been fine.

I sure hope you guys actually get some packing material, instead of them just throwing the HD into a big box and ship it off...

Nope, newegg uses bubble wrap most of the time....

It is tigerdriect with the far worse (so called) packaging.

These companies sometimes change the way they pack stuff, and also how things are packed may depend on which warehouse they ship from.

I've ordered hard drives from Newegg, Amazon and Tiger Direct since December. In fact, the last drive from Newegg was purchased in the past few weeks and I just got in three HDDs from Tiger Direct this past Tuesday. Here are my experiences:

The only HDD I've ordered from Amazon was around Black Friday and showed up as an OEM drive in anti static bag, encased in cardboard like how companies ship books and CDs. Terrible!

Lately the drives I've gotten from Newegg were wrapped in bubble wrap and stuck in a small white box, which is then packed in the shipping box with packing paper or peanuts (have seen both).

My first time ordering HDDs from Tiger Direct a while back was just drives in plastic clamshells on the bottom of the box (just like RebateMonger said). Since then Tiger Direct has changed their clamshells so that there is around 0.5" on each side of the drive as a bumper. My most recent order had these wrapped in a couple inches of paper.

I wonder how my drives will show up tomorrow? Maybe I'll take some pictures and post them.

wow great price.

these got a really bad rep because of that firmware problem. i actually got one when they first came out and after the firmware flash didnt have any issues. and for $58 or so its a great deal.

The MIR requires the UPC, but this is an OEM drive and I don't recall if any of my previous OEM drives came with UPC labels. Does anyone know if this is an issue with claiming this MIR?

I had always avoided Tiger Direct in the past because of the bad stories I'd heard but $70 was too good to pass up. Kind of regretting ordering that drive now though. They actually ask for the last 4 digits of your SSN after you order. Who would ever it give it to them? This is certainly the last time I'm ever ordering from TD no matter how good the deal is. The website is one big shady business practice.

I've ordered quite a bit from TD lately because of BCB and have never been presented with a screen asking for my SSN. I did have to return an OEM CPU recently because the pins were bent due to shitty packing and the experience was as painless as an RMA can get. I also screwed up an order and called to change it and the CSR was friendly and helpful. So far they've been much better than they were 3-4 years ago, at least for me.

Thanks Cabages. Got one for $100.48. That will be $58.18 after the rebate and 12.3% cash back or only 3.88 cents per gigabyte! Can't believe these prices. I used your adder to get free shipping.
