there was some controversy about the cabling on the x650 if I recall (new revision had thinner cables or something?) Did that affect the 850 too?

Either way, killer deal. I bought a 650 for this much a couple years ago.

Yes, it has flat cables, as does every PSU in the updated F3 revision of X-series power supplies. As professional reviews pointed out, the new flat cables make a system build much neater. People were upset about change, but in fact, it was change for the better.

THe flatblack "flexforce" cables are absolutely great. I cried when I retired my Ultra x3 and had to switch to non-flat cables. I believe all the major PSU players have licensed the patent from Ultra.

There is nothing more hideous than regular cables that are not fully sleeved.

In! Was bummed that I missed the X650 deal (could of swore I ordered it but nothing shows up in my NE history). But this is even better for me. Two mining rigs powered by 750W+ gold standard is just what I wanted. Plat would be even better but that rarely ever goes on sale.

The X-850 is really in a different class. It's Gold-rated, fully-modular, and ultra-quiet. The M12II 750 is a pretty good deal at $70, but this one's a better deal, assuming you have a use for it.

I can't see myself using that many Watts in my computer though...?
Anyone have an example setup that doesn't involve overclocking or dual GPUs....?

True, but for most people the Seasonic 660W 80Plus Platinum model that's on sale for $90 every now and then would be more than enough.

This was an excellent deal for anyone needing more than that, though.
