wow... Dual Core CPU, and Quad Core GPU.... Wonder if this just outclassed the VITA. Then again, still not actual controls...

GPU-wise it will I think. Apple A5 was dual-core A9 CPUs and PowerVR SGX543MP2 (dual-core graphics). Vita's CPU is quad-A9 and SGX543MP4 (quad-core graphics).

Android tablets are just completely fucked. There is absolutely no reason to buy one. Unless you want to buy a cheaper inferior product.

A lot of people want a cheaper inferior product. Otherwise everyone would be driving Bugatti Veyrons.

im curious of the breakdown cost (mostly the screen) mainily because if they can cram that many pixels into a 10 inch screen there is no fing reason why laptops and desktop monitors are still getting shafted in the display department

Well...high resolution displays in large sizes aren't really available, not cheaply anyway. The iPad3 just now started incorporating high res displays, maybe it'll transition to laptops.

a lot of people hate small characters you get with high resolution and don't know how to make them bigger

and ipad apps are written to a specific screen size. there are lots of different screen sizes for computers which is why people hate it when things look tiny on a 15" screen

lol... that's right! nothing in a 9.7 or 10" size has that pixel density! Apple is reinventing the wheel!!!!

I know but the jump from a 10 inch tablet to say an untrabook is nothing. ultrabooks get fing shafted on screen res as well as any laptop with a screen smaller than 17 inches. id love to start seeing high rez small laptoop screens in the 11-15 inch range (hell 10 years ago i got a 15.4inch dell that did 1920*1200) we have gone backwards

is also love to see 18-20 inch desktop monitors with non crap resoloutions

Someone on these forums posted a link a few days ago that showed that many laptop displays are already pretty close to "retina" level. Making the resolution higher just means that you'll need to sit closer, otherwise it will make screen elements hard to read. Also, many of the major operating systems still aren't truly resolution independent and would have issues with usability on displays with incredibly high resolution.

We'll probably see some companies making screens with a higher dpi, but I don't expect notebook displays to see the same kind of substantial resolution increase.

Here's a reason: I don't want to be stuck with a an oversized iphone that only does what Steve Jobs approves.

Bam 9 hour battery life, with LTE. That downright embarrassed android!

Still kind of pointless considering you can blow through your entire data plan in a matter of minutes. This probably has more profound implications for their next phone, though.

I don't think most manufacturers can put the kind of money into such a screen that Apple can. Apple's sitting on a hundred billion dollars in cash and they can basically guarantee LCD manufacturers that if they tool up for a new retina display that Apple will buy 15 million of them. Nobody else just ups and buys 15 million of anything.

who is making it, samsung or LG? either of them could slap it in their own displays/divices.

i'm not even an apple fan but the specs are nuts, the battery alone almost doubled in size, and is approaching the capacity of many notebooks. All while incurring almost zero size/weight penalty and no launch price increase.

I'm gonna get a 64gig wifi. I wished they would have finally came out with a 128gb version though. I use my ipad2 every single day since I got it.... used to be a former apple hater. Still won't buy a mac though, no need for it.

And wow, they crammed a 42.5 watt hour battery in there. The ipad 2 was 25 watt hour. The new screen and GPU (and 4g stuff) obviously sucks up a lot more battery since the life stayed at 10 hours with the huge battery upgrade.

My guess is it has 1GB ram since the guy from Epic games commented on it having more memory than 360/PS3.

will the wifi version have better battery life or a smaller battery since it doesn't have any LTE radio?

Nah... the rated life of the battery is just 1 hour less if you have 4G turned on. I also believe their ratings are with 60% screen brightness but I could be wrong. I usually run mine in the 70% range.

??

identical battery life, it's rated for 10 hours on wifi and 9 hours on LTE, since the wifi version doesn't have LTE, it's just 10 hours.
