i got my Brothers 1440 laser printer, 2 years ago for only 90 bux.

I paid $300 for a Brother HL-1450 5 years ago and it still works well. I couldn't resist this deal, either--more than 30 ppm and networkable, plus the included 6000 page cartridge--all for free AR. By the time I use up the cartridge a newer, better printer will probably be free again.

Because this is a workgroup printer, it's made for a small office. Not sure if any of you noticed, but you can connect an ethernet cable to it, it's network ready according to the description. It's also duplexing (can print on both sides of the paper). When you move into this class of printer, they simply become more expensive.

it comes with 32mb onboard memory.
if you can upgrade it on the cheap, you'll definitely have a nice solid office machine

it comes with 64 mb installed, up to 320 mb optional. 64 mb is more than adequate for a small office, let alone for home use.

These are the specs that make it more expensive:

network - Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX - RJ-45
Ethernet, Fast Ethernet
Duplex Printout Duplex
Expansion Slots Total (Free) Memory
Max Media Capacity 800 sheets
Max Media Size (Custom) 8.5 in (Legal) x 14 in (Legal)
Max Media Size (Standard) Legal, A4
Media Feeder(s) 1 x manual load - 1 sheets 1 x autoload - 250 sheets
Media Handling 250-sheet input tray
Monthly Duty Cycle 45000 pages
Networking Print server - Ethernet, Fast Ethernet
Print Speed Up to 33 ppm - B/W - A4 (8.25 in x 11.7 in) Up to 35 ppm - B/W - Letter A Size (8.5 in x 11 in) Up to 16 ppm - B/W duplex - A4 (8.25 in x 11.7 in) Up to 16 ppm - B/W duplex - Letter A Size (8.5 in x 11 in)
RAM Installed ( Max ) 64 MB / 320 MB (max)

For home use, this printer is overkill....that's why I love it! LOL The big things are the print speed, networking and 64MB of RAM (expandable to 320MB).

hmm, seems that place has a 18-25% restocking fee.

Question is how much would I love it for just 288 without the rebate.

I've got this printer on order and am excited to try out my first laser printer, but is there any way that Lexmark could deny the rebate since i'm not really willing to pay $300 for my first laser.

Wow! What a deal. Thanks.

The fine print on the rebate and a question:

The statement, "Offer is not valid if in conjunction with any other rebate or offer related to this Lexmark product, Lexmark funded reseller employee promotion, or internal Lexmark purchases."

So the statement or offer
can that be the special sale of 45% off?

Great find, Kenfrost2001. I grabbed one - don't need one but I figured I could afford free! Thanks.

I asked the Lexmark rebate center about this and they said you would only get the cost of the printer if its price was less than the rebate amount, not the full $300. So don't count on making money from the rebate.

They also said they're researching the "one rebate per model per name" terms since their copy of the rebate only said "one rebate per name" and it meant one or the other printer. It will take 3-5 days for an answer.

Why does someone always have to call. When will people learn not to upset the apple cart
I called the rebate house, not the store. It makes sense to clarify the terms of the rebate unless you want to participate in a class action suit.

I'm fully aware of the calling the store caveats concerning misprices and other extraordinary-appearing deals. But after seeing how this worked out several days ago on FW with the "NextWarehouse or is it NextWarehouse.com?" deal I thought it prudent to check with the rebate house before buying one of each model.

There's no way I would have done that if I thought it would mess up the deal for other people.

Same. This deal is too sweet to pass up. If I decide it's taking up too much room, I can always give it to a friend of mine.

Anyone able to log into the Cliason thing??? I can't seem to make it work

I can't login to that customer service thing either. It will probably take a couple hours for them to transmit that info.

As for the Shipping, if you clicked on the economy shipping and confirmed your order, it should be fine, because there is no "Update" button. There is an update button only for the changing the quantity.

Just a quick note in case someone didn't notice that the store was on holiday yesterday. Here's exactly from their website:

"Due to the upcoming holiday, all orders placed up to and including 4/10/07 will not be processed until 4/11/07. Orders placed on the eleventh will be processed normally.

Please note, overnight and two-day shipping options will be unavailable during this time.

Again, we will make every effort to stick to this schedule, however we acknowledge that not all orders placed will be filled according to this schedule. "
