Unless they are on the install disc, I didn't get them. Also, when the board says it only accepts 1.5v video cards. That kinda limits my options for gaming, even though I think this mobo wasn't meant for gaming. I checked many sites about the cards and they don't list the voltage on the specifications. Anybody know what cards are compatible with this board?

Anything GeForce2 or newer should work.

RideFree said, So, what H/S fan are you using? You did not hurt the CPU if that's what you're wondering...assuming that you applied the H/S grease or A/S5 or an equivalent to the contact area between the CPU & the H/S. The reason you did not hurt the CPU is that the H/S will absorb quite a bit of heat before the fan is necessary in order to cool it.

Some BIOSs regulate the performance of the H/S fan unit in order to control the noise - if this feature is activated in the BIOS. I have one unit where the CPU fan does not activate for several seconds (but the H/S is a big hummer and could absorb a blowtorch for about a minute before getting hot to the touch

Let us know...

I got it to work. All I needed to do was to plug in the 12 volt Aux plug. The manual didn't mention that you need to do that. Online Soyo says it's for the P-IV. I'm just using the fan that came with my MB.
I've left my PC running for days and it seems stable. The hottest the CPU has gotten that I can tell is 50C, but it was near 90F that day and the home AC is not running yet.
This is my first post under the new Anandtech look and I have no idea if I'm quoting the poster or not(edit, it didn't quote RideFree, I had to edit his remarks in. After I hit post I got a quick reply window. Change for the worse. I don't like this new window popping up

can anyone else confirm that you need to plug in the 12 volt Aux plug to get the mtb to work? i was thinking about getting one of these for a microatx case that i have, but the powersupply doesnt have the 4 pin plug. so does that mean i am i out of luck?

yes you're out of luck, unless you buy a new psu or just buy a $17 ebuyer case shipped w/ 300watt psu.

Wouldn't they suck up more power and therefore be a card that requires more voltage, meaning I'm outta luck also with newer cards?

More power != more voltage.

How to identify 1.5v AGP cards

All AGP 4x and 8x compatible cards will work.

Bah! Mwave is being a pain about my shipping address not being on file with my credit card company. I'll just have to watch Newegg's refurb section

You can get 12V (and ground) out of the normal 4 pin Molex power connector from your old power supply and feed the 12 volt Aux fine.

Although it has 4 pins, two are both for 12V (those which are on the side where the hook is) and other two are both ground.

12V is the yellow cable from the molex and groud is the black one right next to it and split each into two.

I made a connector by cutting a section (4 pin) off a 20 pin ATX power connector from a dead power supply and attached the 4 wires to a female Molex connector (per what I described above). Then, I connected the adapter to the power supply, and the board booted up and worked perfectly fine.

I have seen adapters to convert the harddrive connector to the 4-pin ATX mb connector at Fry's. You can get a cable to help make your own at mwave. for $4.

Well I guess it's dead again.
I ordered one over the phone, making sure I explained to the guy that it had to be sold to me Today.
He said no problem and took all the needed info and card numbers ( about 7pm eastern time ), got a call back about 1/2 hour later from them, telling me that since it could not ship today, I would not be eligable for the rebate, that the sell date didn't matter.
After a few min. of trying to explain that was NOT what the rebate form said, I told them to cancle my order, and put the motherboard where the sun will never shine.
Will keep an eye on this thread, for updates, I'd still like one to bring up a cheap system.

bummer. hopefully this deal will live again. i was able to get 3 boards in the recent rebates for this board. i think that will be my limit though, as i would like to see some money come back before i give soyo more

I had enormous problems installing this motherboard and eventually gave up after two days. I was doing a clean install of Windows 2000. (Using the latest drivers & with LAN enabled in BIOS) the on-board LAN drivers installed properly but the LAN wouldn't start up. After trying several drivers, I gave up and put in a seperate LAN card. IF that was the only card installed it would work but if there was more than one card installed the computer would see none of them. After I got the LAN working and updated Windows, I installed a videocard and soundcard. Result-no more LAN, even though the card light was on and even after removing the videocard and soundcard.

SOYO has nothing more than the quickstart guide online, and their online support is pretty minimal.

Any ideas? If this didn't have the 100% rebate I'd RMA it. Instead, I'll probably throw the d*mn thing away and buy something from Newegg.

I've built probably more than a dozen computers over the years and none gave me the headaches this did.

Install your OS. Try the drivers on the disc supplied by Soyo, and put them on in the order shown in the menu ( think it was Via 4-in-1(450), KM400 display, Via usb2, Via audio drv, Via audio app, Via lan).

This might be an IRQ routing problem. Don't forget the Via 4-in-1 drivers. The newer Via 4-in-1 450 drivers on the cd fixed issues I had with 3D games crashing. If that gets your pc up ok then look for newer drivers, if you think you need them. I needed to use newer GeForce drivers for a Ti4200 agp card (old drivers were fine in NForce rig).

Its not recommended to go enabling every device from the start before you install an OS, that's asking for troubles like this.

Try disabling all non-essential components and installing W2K on a minimalist configuration. If you get W2K installed, update your chipset drivers using the VIA 4-in-1 from the CD or downloading from VIA. Install DX9 and the graphics driver, preferrably the latest version for W2K if you're using the KM400 integrated video.

Then install a PCI NIC card and update using Windows Update. If all is well, remove the LAN card and drivers then enable the integrated LAN and install the latest driver from VIA.

Its a b-tch but doing a new system in steps like this is usually the way to go for minimizing potential for trouble.
