Great-my POS motherboard never worked right and I gave up on it after 3-4 days of frustrating bug hunting. Decided not to RMA it (and spend $8-10 on UPS) but rather just wait for the rebate. I guess that was a dumb decision.

Don't we all... But I think Soyo management are doing these FAR deals to artificially increase the cash flow so that their company would look more valuable to PC Chips. The Balance Sheet looks better and they can ask/get more $$$ for the company. Once PC Chips acquires the company they also acquire the liability for the rebates, so I'm pretty positive that we will get back our money eventually. The key word is 'eventually'...

This really sucks. What the status on the SOYO rebate page says is that they are still processing the rebates for the promotion that had to be post marked by 3/29/04.

God only knows when they will get around to processing the May promotion rebates.:|

Well I know and I'm not God

I actually read the rebate form and it tells you exactly when to expect the rebate. *

* 12 to 14 weeks after the postmark date (05/22/2004) = August 22nd - September 5th, 2004.




BTW - I just received my $50 TigerDirect/Soyo rebate from March/April. I did call them exactly 14 weeks after the postmark date and they sent my check in 2 days ! They required that I fax all the documents after I called.

Here's the direct phone number for Soyo Rebates (ask for Shirley): (909) 292-2528. Don't bother calling if it hasn't been 14 weeks from the postmark date. You'll only p!ss them off.

That would place this in mid September before you see anything based on 16 weeks from May 22nd.

I have not had any problems with my K7VME, it performs well, which makes two Soyo boards with no problems so far.

I would say that motherboards are both critical and fragile. Note my experience of the past 5 years:

- 4 bad motherboards (MSI,ECS,Chaintech)
- 1 bad hard drive (within 30 days)
- 1 bad power supply (failed in hot weather)
- 1 bad RAM (replaced free by Crucial with no questions asked)
- 1 DOA floppy
- 2 worn-out CD-ROM drives

I have a stack of perfectly good really slow CPUs that cover well over 20 years of PCs, all of which still ran perfectly when they were replaced with new $50 CPUs that run 2-4 times as fast.

So, a bad motherboard is not unusual, and not necessarily the sign of a bad manufacturer or bad design.

PS I need to make more storage space, and I have 3 of those bad MBs taking up space - how do you dispose of a dead motherboard?

Either Office Max or Office Depot recycles them andd takes them out of your hands for free. I saw a post about this in this forum, just do a search.

Thank GOD the deal is dead. Soyo rebates are a scam to borrow money for 90-100 days - check the terms - and their sh-t has no QA. The K7VME is the worst of their crappy boards and this case has the socket behind the crappy PSU, so you are stuck with the stock cooler. Even then some people have said it touches it. Definately gets hot. I had to UNDERCLOCK my tbred.

If anyone has noticed their website for verfiying the rebate doesn't even check the status of your rebate...just enter a bogus name and zip and you get same messege "we are processing aprils submission" it has been that for over a month.

BTW, the number posted eariler, actually works. I called them about mine (ordered may3, recieved like may 9, and rebate was in the mail the next day. They said it was postmarked the 22nd of may...one day before the closeout) Yeah, right I mailed that the around 14th...anyways...truth be told they confessed they are behind and it will be another month.

I just called and they told me (nicely) that they are now even more behind and to check back in three more weeks to see how they are doing. BTW, my board was DOA and I wrote tech support and they said that they are very busy and would be back to me....

Nothing for me either, but then the magic postmark date from the submission form is 5/22/2004. At least there processing date is moving forward, maybe there is some hope.

well i agree the board construction is just beyond my understanding (why did they have to make it like that?) it wasnt all THAT bad. in fact my mobile barton2400 ran happily at 2.1 before it finally crapped out cuz of a a wire getting stuck in the cpu fan.

as for the performance, km400 is a good deal slower than nf2. ATA controller maybe a big part of it, but when i run foobar2k with SSRC resampler @192, i used to get like 50~60% cpu usage. with the new biostar nf2 board, it stays at around 30~45%.
