Dead Space 2

Ok. As we all know, EA decided that they would sloppily port dead space 2 to the PC (not as bad as the bfbc2 port). First off to discuss.

They left look acceleration on. I can tell because my slower mouse swipes make the camera move faster than one really fast one. I mean cmon! Why would they do this if they know most pc gamers are going to be using twitch shooting tactics? Wanna optimize the game for pc boneheads?

2nd off. Mouse and Keyboard. I like the keyboard and mouse controls. The problem is, this game is less scary knowing that you are not limited to tank controls on a xbox 360 controller (I beat dead space 1 on 360 with headphones, Im working on dead space 2 on pc with headphones).

3. Not all shadows work "very high" on the "very high" setting. If you go outside in the zero g areas where you are in space, you can see blocky shadows. Its annoying when you see perfectly rendered soft shadows inside, then you see one blocky ass shadow on the other side. I like my very high setting ea. Please make all my shadows VERY HIGH!!!

4. Antialiasing and Antistropic filtering and 30fps locked vsync. No native antialiasing (dont give me that. that is not antialiasing. that is just...a little blur for god sakes...). no native antistropic filtering. Vsync works...but it locks your framerate at 30fps (what am I a console gamer?). There are ways of turning AA and AF on by forcing it, but someone researched and showed that it messes with the actual games shadows and other things about the game.

It seems EA loves to port games improperly. EA! Write down this checklist

-Antialiasing Options
-Antistropic Filtering Options
-Look Acceleration ON/OFF
-VSync (with option to lock or not lock framerate)
-Optimize for all systems big and small (Im looking at you bfbc2)

Other than all of this, games great! Scary too just not as disturbing as dead space 1 because that game desensitised me lol.

disappoint

What you're asking for makes gaming sense.
What EA does makes business sense.

Here is EA's checklist:
-Under budget
-done by the deadline (they're looking at you Duke Nukem Forever)
-Sells

Considering you bought the game, it looks like they achieved their goals.

Understand, as a gamer I agree with you 100%. Just pointing out why they don't.

It's still the best version. Looks good and performs well. Mouse deceleration isn't nice but it's still the best control scheme. Your points are valid, though. But why would you use vsync? Especially if it locks your fps to a lowly 30?

Force v-sync through driver control. It will use the correct fps. Not 30.

yeah in DS1 on pc, i had to turn vsync off in the game and force it on in Catalyst. Then, i had to turn the mouse sensitivity all the way up in the game. If you had vsync on in game options, the mouse would behave as you described. So maybe DS2 is similar.

I had to force vsync through radeonpro to get it to work right. I never noticed anything about the shadows. In general I think the game looks and plays great through.

I didn't have any issues with the PC version of the game. I played with a 360 controller so I can't speak to the controls, but I did play DS1 with keyboard and mouse without any issues, though everyone else seemed to hate it.

I think you are over-reacting. While there have been horrible pc ports; for me anyways dead space 2 was fine and dandy. Enjoyed it - though it was rather short.

I couldn't even navigate the main menu of DS1 without feeling like a retard before I did the fix. It was even worse than Bioshock. After the fix it was fine though. If I remember right the faster your computer was the worse it would manifest itself though.

Yeah, I am kind of overreacting lol. I was just saying if anyone has noticed. The game did do its thing. Its amazing, Its scary, and Its well optimized (they did fit a dead space game on the ipod touch and iphone, mind you it was damn well amazing. imagine being at work sitting there playing it, then jumping at random yelling "oh shit!" lol. good times) etc. Its just missing some...PC "requirements" to even call it a full pc port. Like I said, its EA. Any game by them thats been ported to pc is always missing something. whether its something big or small theyre still off by something.

they also missed the G13 gaming keypad joy stick even if the stick was mapped to keys, the game would think analog inputs were received and spin you like a top.
-the fix was to removed the analog part of the joy stick in device manager.

One more glitch to add...theres one where the ammo count doesnt show up on the assault rifle. its not bad knowing i beat it on normal, survivalist, and zealot. On hardcore on the other hand may present a problem.

I noticed this game is much better at a higher framerate than 30fps because of 1. not limited by a controller and 2. fluidity. I actually tried playing the ps3 version after playing the pc version and its a WORLD of difference.
