Dead Space 3 is coming out in a little under 3 weeks and I didn't find a thread for it so I thought I'd start one. I really enjoyed the first two and just started playing through them again. I'm currently playing the first and it still holds up well although it's age is starting to show in the graphics (particuraly the textures). It's still one of the very few survival horror games to come out after most of the "horror" game are now more or less action games (RE5, etc.) The sequel does follow that pattern of more action less horror although it works within the narrative since Isaac (the protaganist of the first game) begins the game in a mental intitution and is suffering from the events of the first game. I'm looking forward to playing the second again since I thought it was one of the best games of 2011 (I ranked it third behind Skyrim and the Witcher 2) but I never got around to playing it again.
I haven't read too much about Dead Space 3 since I like to go into games I'm looking forward more or less blind. The main qualms I've heard about it are that the co-op mode take away from the horror aspect of the game and the game's setting seems a lot like lost planet (which I never played). So basically the fear is that it's turned from survival horror into pure action. From what I remember you can play the game solo as Isaac (which I plan to do) so you don't have another character backing you up all time ala RE5.
I don't mind the game phasing out some of the horror aspects in favor as action as long as there's an intensity to it. In RE5 I never really felt the action to be that intense or my character to be overwhelmed since my partner was always right there to help. Still, I like survival horror and don't want all of the games in the genre to morph into action games so I hope that the game is part action, part survival horror. For example, a chapter may start out outdoors as mostly action but once you get into a derelict building the game could change to survival horror.
Right now I'm waiting to see if green man gaming will have a 20% off discount in the future for the game but if not I'll probably ending up pre-ordering it for retail.
Also a note for those of you who haven't played Dead Space 1 or 2 and are thinking of picking it up on the PC. The pc version is a bit wonky for some people and the best fix is to turn off the vsnyc. If you don't, there can be a slight delay between pressing a button and it registering in the game. Also, an xbox 360 controller is highly recommended.
