This game looks pretty cool, kind of like RE in space, but I can't decide if I want it for console or PC. I'd prefer PC but the RE games usually suck on PC due to controls and crappy porting. So has anyone picked this up yet? How does it play on the PC?

PC version is not out until 10/20

Gamespot gave the 360 version 9/10 so lets hope the PC is as good.....

I have a terrible suspicion that it'll be consolized. A "deep story" will be whatever is over-the-top enough to get the T for Teen crowd to persuade their lunchroom-table friends to buy the game.

Hope I'm wrong!

I expect it will kick some serious ass. It's a third person shooter, might be worth just plugging in the 360 pad and then who cares if it's "consolized"

Really? You prefer a gamepay for third-persons? I think it'd be more difficult to use a gamepad in any sort of game that requires aiming.

I think it will have support for the 360 controller. In fact I'm pretty sure of it...

If you've sat down with a gamepad for any respectable amount of time, it is no more difficult to play w/ a gamepad than it is w/a keyboard especially if the game has pre-set controls for it. I've played with the PC for many years and it only took me a few weeks to get use to a controller and I have no greater preference for either. They both work.

More power to you, man. I've never been able to aim as quickly and accurately with a gamepad as I can with a keyboard/mouse.

Edit: I'd still love to see a PC/360 release that allows online cross-platform play. You'd think it'd be a great marketing move for Microsoft. "Play your friends, even if they don't have a 360!"

Well, such a feature would be largely irrelevant with a game such as Dead Space...

But, I understand your point...

However, several games DO have that functionality: Lost Planet: Colonies Edition, Universe at War: Earth Assault, Shadowrun, and a few others...

I never cared for 3rd person when it comes to shooters (Max Payne was a nice exception), but Dead Space appears to fall more into the survival horror category of games like the Silent Hill and RE.

I can understand the appeal of seeing the protagonist in action in that genre, but I'd probably prefer it in first person. When I first saw the concept art and synopsis for this game I was thinking of System Shock 2 (and the Von Braun!). I might like this game, but it's something I'm more likely to play as a discounted title in the future.

FPS games, no, but 3rd person shooters are slower paced, not twitch based. The game is designed with a pad in mind, so they don't make it a requirement that you have to spin around in a quarter of a second to nail someone behind you. If there was some sort of deathmatch multiplayer component then m/kb would probably be superior. I hated GTA on the pc using m/kb, had to plug in a pad, especially for driving.

They released a couple of comic series playing out the events prior to the actual game story. It's nothing terribly new (reminds me somewhat of Doom) but I'm a sucker for sci-fi horror.

For me, driving in GTA series was actually much easier with kb/m. I guess it depends on who is playing.

-edit-

Looks like it'll have securom as it's made be EA.

I was thinking of waiting for the PC version but not with this DRM, then I was thinking of buying the 360 version but some A.O. comments by the CEO on gamers boycotting their games put this out of the question so i'll just rent it.
