I am blown away by the speed of this thing

My wife prints out booklets, equating into hundreds of pages at a time. The time this printer has saved her alone has paid for the printer, not to mention the increase in print quality over our old inkjet

I got 1 yest! good deal. I thought i read that the drivers were a pain? Can i connect this thru my SMC router w/ print server on win2k easily?

I don't know about the printserver, I only got the D-Link DI-704 w/o the server (it's a shame) but I conncted my printer as a shared network printer and had no problems with it that way. As for drivers, I didn't even bother with the CD but rather went straight to lexmark.com to download the latest drivers. Besides, on the box it says no support for XP but there is a driver on their website that's dated November of last year, or something around that time.

Also I did not bother installing any of the other c$%p on the CD. Anyone tried it and thinks it's worth installing it?

Tempted by the deal...but it will cost $84.79 to replace the toner...anyone know how many pages you can print with the cartridge included with the printer?

Edit: A full toner cartridge can print 2000 pages. Don't know if thie toner included with the printer will do the same.

I found the toner on megatoner.com for $69.90 didn't even look at the "refurbished" section. On lexmark.com it can be ordered for $73 or something like that. So I would not put out over $80 for a 2000 page toner cartridge.

Also someone else in this thread mentioned toner refill packs, never heard of those so I can't comment. My only fear with those is the possible mess, but then again, people fill up their ink cartridges all the time.

Another poster mentioned that it might be possible to use Samsung toners, but the poster did not elaborate on that either.

Anyone knows about those toner refills or the Samsung toner?

lexmark only includes a starter cartridge, it supposedly prints 1000 pages based on 5% coverage. that's quite a lot for me, expect this thing two years or so before it needs to be replaced. By that time I may as well buy a new printer for another $70 ( ain't it sad...)

I got one yesterday, love it so far. Windows XP pro had support built in. Just plugged it into a powered 4 port hub, XP found the hub, then the printer........voila!!! I posted a possible ~65 dollar cartridge deal for this at staples ---catridge+ibm via voice 9 - 20 coupon - 20 rebate = ~65.

When I picked mine up yesterday at the Staples B&m, there were like 20 of these in the store. The kid who got me one down off shelf said that these all just came in off the truck. He also said that when they get this many of an item at one time it usually means they will be an advertised special the following week. I do not know if they are going to advertise the printer and rebate or run some other special. Do not hold me to it as he was not certain and I am only sharing what he told me.

The rep will not put a supervisor on the phone, after 20mins going round with this person about UPS doesn't ship on Saturdays yada, yada, yada she finally said it might come Saturday, Monday or Tuesday. He agreed with this shipping and then asked for a final compensation, $20 off order. Saturday he recieved the printer.

Just bought this printer at Staples using the 30 off 150 available elsewhere. Hope it is better than the POS Epson inkjets I've been having so many problems with in Win XP.

And has anyone had good results with the cheap toner carts for this Lexmark from E-Bay????

Are you sure they are toner cartridges and not just refills? I looked at the completed auctions and the $30 range auctions are for a 2 pack of toner refills.

I don't know where people get the idea that Brother laser printers are so much better than others. I purchased a Brother once, but took it back because my HP 6L was better. Perhaps they have improved since then, I don't know, but I know you can't believe every review you read.

I also purchased a Xerox once due to the fact it claimed it had twice the resolution as my HP did. (which obviously was false advertising) I ended up having to sell the Xerox because my HP was still better.

This is an excellent deal for this Lexmark though. I think its so cheap because Lexmark makes their money off their cartridges... just like they do with their inkjet printers. Although I have yet to replace the toner in my HP 6L... it seems to last forever.
